The big welfare mother rant.

This one is going to be a doozy, so please read the entire post before writing me a 10 page comment about your life story and how much of an asshole I am.  If you still wish to write me a 10 page comment on how society forced you to get knocked up while on welfare, then I’ll give you a story how society FORCED ME to use rough 2-ply toilet paper to wipe my ass instead of the good soft stuff.

Oh, and for the record, “welfare” here means full blown don’t-have-to-work-all-inclusive aid.  I’m not going to pick apart food-stamps but not free-housing or check, etc.  I say government ticket, I mean the entire government ticket.

This is how I see the welfare system working:

Girl “falls in love” at the ripe age of 16, and through the magic of laziness, hormones, stupidity, and complete irresponsibility allows herself to get pregnant by some loser.  The loser, taking  parenting advice from rap stars and TV idols, leaves that bitch and moves on (“hey, don’t hate the playa, hate the game”).  The mother, now single and with child, goes on the system to get assistance until she can finish school and get a job.  At which point she gets off of the system and pulls herself up by her bootstraps and becomes a model mother and a productive member of society.

That above I have no problem paying for.  Hell, believe it or not, that’s what the system was intended for!  However this is what mostly will happen:

Girl above, when her child is 2 years old, finds another douchebag reject and through the magic of not-fucking-learning-the-first-time gets pregnant AGAIN.  Repeat about 4 more times.  Kids run out of control and tear my shelves apart, and she bitches at me because the Septra suspension for kid #5 is grape flavored and not cherry.

Let it be known herein and throughout the tubes of the Internet.  If you are already on welfare, and you get pregnant again (ie: you already are established on the system and you spread your legs and accept seed again), you are the most irresponsible, stupid, waste of human skin on the planet.  You are nothing more than a receptacle for some dude to keep his sausage warm and serve no use to us other than to leech away our money like a tick on the ass-end of society.  Go and make porn flicks because your only mental and physical skill in life involves your mouth and between your legs.

It blows my mind how absolutely stupid someone can be to be on welfare (you know, implied that you cannot take care of yourself so the state has to take care of you) and bring another child into this world.  Getting pregnant once is a freebie in my book, shit happens (though barely now that Plan-B is OTC). The second time however is 100% you’re-a-fucking-moron.  The third one on is what-the-fuck-were-you-thinking (oh, you werent).  Birth control is FREE! It just takes a bit of effort (ie: getting off of your ass) to get!   Have they gotten the memo that welfare is not intended for living off of for your entire life?  Did it ever occur to them that if the welfare system suddenly says “Uh, no more money for checks, so sorry!” they are completely and utterly fucked?  Ugh, so retarded and so stupid.

Lets compare 2 irresponsible acts:

  • Spending your check on spinning rims instead of job-interview clothes: IRRESPONSIBLE
  • Bringing another human-being into this world when you are 100% reliant on the state to wipe your ass currently: REALLY-FUCKING-IRRESPONSIBLE

Usually if you cannot afford something; car, boat, whatever; it gets repo’d.  YOU CANNOT DO THAT WITH A CHILD!  Pregnancy isn’t some magical unknown event that just “happens”.  Its as preventable as avoiding getting your car stolen by LOCKING IT, or avoiding wrecking your car by NOT RUNNING INTO WALLS.  Which means that the only way these career welfare mothers are getting pregnant is out of sheer laziness and stupidity.  Surprise surprise!  Close your legs until you can afford to open them!

My solution, and one offered by other readers on here, is every 3 months, when you get your welfare paperwork reevaluated, you get a shot of Depot Provera.  I don’t give a rats ass about side-effects, these people are already on the downward slide, so we’re doing damage control now.  You want your check, you get your depot shot.  You don’t want your birth control shot? Then I guess you get no check!  The state pays for your life, the state gets to make the rules.  In “real life” if my boss asks me to clean the toilets, then I clean the toilets.  Know why? Because my job pays for my life, so my job gets to make the rules.  I realize that the “job” part is a foreign concept, but just trust me on this one.

I know I’m going to get at least one comment by some idiot saying that “reproduction is a right”.  Well, to them I say “Leave your gated community in your $60k SUV once in a while and open your fucking eyes.  If they have a right to reproduce like fucking rabbits, then I have a right to not pay a fucking dime towards the product of their irresponsibility.”   Seriously! Fuck and reproduce all you want, but don’t come to Uncle Sam asking for a double fist of government cheese.

So, I challenge you all to give me ONE DECENT point that refutes my belief that the woman who is on welfare and gets pregnant yet again is the most irresponsible person on the planet.

For your enjoyment (and since we’re talking about the pinnacle of irresponsibility), here is Octomom in a blender:

Love it!!! You are so right!! I think that all states should follow NJ law of 2 kids on welfare that’s it! If those of us paying the taxes to support these welfare sucking breeders have to limit the number of children we have because we can’t afford it, then those people on welfare need to learn this lesson yesterday.

I say if they’re on medicaid and unmarried when they have the 2nd child, it should be a law that the doc has to tie her tubes!! might be harsh, but why the fuck should people who pay money to go to school to earn a good living have to pay for these worthless fucking people who think they’re better than everyone else because they don’t do shit. I get so sick of these fucking nasty ass mothers coming in bitching about their children “having” to have their Adderall! IT’S PRETTY CONVENIENT THAT ON TOP OF PAYING FOR THE FUCKING MEDICATION, THE PARENTS GET A CHECK EVERY MONTH FROM THE STATE OF IL TO HAVE THEM ON IT!!! Why is our deficit so big???? Fuck, I don’t know!! Probably because we have worthless fucking people on medicaid who think their children “have to have” their Adderall and their clonidine because they can’t fucking sleep because they’re so strung out on stimulants!!! How fucking stupid!! I also love how Medicaid will pay for Plan B multiple times every month or weekly!! Yes, this is bc, but why not take an everyday oral contraceptive!!! I also love how if they get a monthly bc, they can also get Plan B!!! Our state government is soooooo fucking ignorant!!! And why the fuck should I have to take a drug test to work at Walgreen’s, but these fucking pieces of shit don’t have to be tested before my money is handed out to them!!! If they have money to buy weed and beer every weekend, they sure as hell have enough money to feed themselves!! If they can’t support their children, the state should find someone who can!

Ya know what’s funny? I was 18 and pregnant with my second kid while in nursing school. (DH was in college as well.) I had Medicaid benefits. I asked my OB to tie my tubes while I was in the hospital, and she told me that Medicaid wouldn’t cover it until I was 25. Seems like they should have stood on their heads to make that happen! BTW, the food stamps and benefits I received worked as intended. Thanks to the temporary help I received, I was able to finish school, get a job and provide my family with housing, food, clothing and insurance. So have faith, guys. Sometimes the system actually works!

Nurse Betty if everyone thought the same way you do then the system would be doing what it was intended to do. Kudos on getting a career and bettering yourself…independence is the greatest thing ever and you’ve achieved that.

The other day there was a welfare mom that came in to drop of a script for amoxicillin for her baby. She didn’t have her medicaid card on her (how unusual is that?) Anyway, long story short, she didn’t want to pay the measly $4 for a rx for her child (keep in mind she could bring the damn card in the next day and get a refund) but she had 2 cases of wine coolers that she paid for out of pocket. Those are the people that need to have their kids taken and given to a home that will take care of them.

Screw the system and the idiots that live off our hard-earned money.

I’m in the exact same place..sort of. Had a boy at 25 with my husband, after we divorced I couldn’t pay for groceries, bills, and go to school full-time (i’m in graduate school). So the state helps me to the extent of my son’s health care and our groceries, and about 10% of daycare charges. I wrote the company that makes the IUD and explained my situation (low-income single-mom student) and they sent one to my doctor free of charge, which she implanted for free. 10 years of birth control, all I had to do was write a letter.

Gotta agree with you. My first experience with this was doing an OB rotation in med school, in a ghetto area. 20 year old mom with 4 kids, pregnant with a 5th. All by different fathers. Kids destroyed the exam room, and Mom just sat and didn’t do shit.

Went to bed that night realizing how my money is being wasted, and that if this mom starved to death because her welfare checks got cut off I wouldn’t lose any sleep. That makes me sound like a mean bastard, but ya know, I work my ass off 80-90 hours a week (to support my family), and it makes me sick that some of my money is being given to these losers to support their lazy-ass lives.

And someone out there will call me a racist. Race has nothing to do with it. You don’t know what color I am. If you are an able-bodied individual you should at least be trying to work.

I recommend the blog waypastbroke.blogspot.com I don’t know who this guy is, but he’s trying to find work, doing whatever he can to get from day-to-day, while the world and this shitty economy keep crapping on him. And there are many out there like him.

So with people like him trying and willing to work for a living, I have NO sympathy for those who have decided it’s easier to just live off my tax dollars. And I agree with you entirely TAP.

Like or Dislike: Thumb up Thumb down 0

    • True, but the ultimate burden of responsibility does (and always shall remain) with the female.

A contraceptive pill for men would be as useful as tits on a boar. I can see it now “of course im on the pill honey” as the random guy is never seen again.

Like or Dislike: Thumb up Thumb down 0

      • Basiorana says:

Well, it’s not like the woman shouldn’t ALSO be on birth control, and they should use a condom, but a contraceptive pill for men would help men have control over their fertility if they wanted.

It’s not like the reverse doesn’t happen: “Of course I’m on the pill honey” and the guy is stuck paying child support for twenty years.

Still, if the guy didn’t use a condom, it is his fault. AS much as hers. The only thing that she then has as an option that he does not is abortion, but if he did not take responsibility and use a condom it is his responsibility and he deserves to eat beans for the rest of his life because they will force him to work and then garnish his wages.

I’ve always envisioned a joint venture between the NBA and NFL to perfect a reversable vasectomy! If they did that, they could then take this to the states to enforce on men who qualify for welfare. I always liked the idea of Depo for women on welfare. I remember a show on PBS where they would fly over horses in helicopters in Montana or somewhere and shoot them with Depo. Could they do that in the inner city too?

The comment was removed, but I wasn’t banned. I was once banned from a board for 48 hours for saying that the deaths of two alternative school students was probably not a tragedy. Interestingly, lots of people agreed with me (and were also banned as well).

First off, I go to a alternative school. And it’s not by decision that I went their or any stupid action that I commenced. Infact I know quite a few kids in alternative schooling in their for shitty reasons. Mine being that my father died. And I didn’t go to school for two weeks. My schoolboard lied* and told me that it would help me make up the credits. I’m eighteen I have three jobs go to school and have a house and a car. So in my opinon sir your opinions are just that… And you should really go and do some community service, in that alternative school. You would infact meet a whole hell of alot of down to earth normal people. Furthermore, I think that its a travisty that I have to work three jobs to take care of my little brother and put food on the table whereas you may have a woman with 5-7 kids effectivly raping my paychecks. I believe though and with wholeheartedness that whenever the Social Security system falls through their is going to be one fucking unbelievible wake up call. Because your going to have a majority of semi-retarded, piece of shit hood rats whom can niether read nor write who need food, shelter and money to buy drugs with. What is going to happen? Whenever the money is all gone? In my opinion, theirs going to be an increase of violence in predominately suburbian areas, more robberies and eventually a social uprising. Social Security takes care of the whole country at this point. Go ahead and try to argue that point. I would say over eighty percent of the country has some sort of financial assistance to carry them through this economice depression; and that moreso than not is correct. I wish thee a good day. But in the future try reading up on your material and getting to know what your talking about and not just waisting my air with you breathing your stereotypical nonsense.

I’m of the more draconian opinion that we should all be fitted with IUDs at puberty, and before any couple can concieve, both parents should have to complete a basic parenting skills class, including a budgeting section, and demonstrate sufficient financial security to support a child. (Mothers intending to be single moms should also have to meet this requirement, sans partner).Any parent with a history of domestic abuse/child abuse or neglect should have to complete an advanced parenting class, produce a parenting plan, and be signed off by a psychologist to say that they have completed sufficient therapy/anger management programs (or whatever) to give them a shot at not repeating the abuse.

No one should be completely denied the chance to reproduce, but society should make sure everyone is doing so responsibly, and with fore-thought. We licence people to drive, and require credentials/diplomas/training etc and references to be employed for most skilled jobs. Parenting is more difficult, and more important. Think about what you require of daycare staff – you’d like to know that they didn’t have a history of child abuse, that they had completed a training course, or recieved on the job training, and that they had character references. Why should we requre less of a parent?

And yah, parents fuck up too, but you just have to learn as you go along. These classes you speak of are not going to REALLY ready you. However, your analysis is 100% faulty. The Big Welfare Mother is not stupid (perhaps lazy), au contraire, she’s the rational actor in this economic experiment. You are the fool, along with everyone else who conflates birth control, multiple partners, spinning rims etc with welfare checks. Just as the fool who blames the raccoon for rooting through the trash bin not properly secured.

The root and only cause for the behavior recorded on this blog is everyone who enables it, i.e. those of you who continually reward liberal politicians by re-electing them to office. There’s no argument that serial welfare moms, their sperm donors and illegals birthing anchor babies are pure parasites, but rational actors nonetheless.

The real idiots whine indignantly about the behavior, and then proceed to re-enable with yet another vote for socialist libtards (special nod to clowns in current presidential administration). THIS is the cycle of irresponsibility which must be broken.

While I definitely agree that liberal politicians are too keen to create and enable government programs that leech off of hardworking citizens, I don’t think I’m yet convinced that politicians of any persuasion are going to make things better. Yes, liberal politicians are going to cater to social programs (that literally hemorrhage money), but the conservative politicians are the ones who are going to fight tooth and nail against sex education and birth control if it goes against their all-abstinence-all-the-time code of morals. Our government isn’t going to do anything because it is currently so inundated with corrupt men and women who are benefiting from the systems that make all of us cringe under the weight of injustice. What we need is education and accountability, but such an action will cut into too many deep pockets.

The only way we will have a chance to change things politically is if EVERYONE is proactive enough to care about national, state and local elections and vote based on individual merits instead of under the banner of a particular party. And by being proactive, I do mean actively seeking information about elections and candidates outside of mainstream media outlets. We need politicians who care more about our country than their re-elections. Reforming programs like welfare will be a messy business but the rewards will far outcry the grunts of disapproval.

Obviously, I am all on board for accountability in the welfare system. I too am sick and tired of all of the welfare recipients who abuse the system and yell at me when they have to actually pay for a prescription for one of their four children from different baby daddies. I have no patience for that when I see hard working people come into the pharmacy and have to pay upwards of $200 a month for necessary medication even with their insurance plans. It’s completely unfair.

I say yes to mandatory birth control for women on welfare and yes to drug testing! If the government is giving you a check for the purpose of getting back on your feet, then they have every right to know if that money is being squandered. I also agree with the comment someone here made about having to be licensed to drive and work. I’ve actually considered what it would be like to have to have a license to reproduce. Too bad procreation isn’t something easily regulated…

I also have to give a big Kudos for those here who have used the system as it was intended. My mom was a welfare child but instead of following in her mother’s footsteps and leeching off of the system (which the woman continued to do until her death a few months ago), my mom got married before she had her children (only two children – myself and my brother) and continues to work hard every day of her life to support our family (as does my father) without any government assistance whatsoever. Welfare can either help or corrupt, but as it is now, it corrupts more often than the former.

This is why democracies are doomed to fail, as soon as people realize they can vote themselves money from the government coffers, they do. It leads to fiscal irresponsibility by the government and excessive taxation a la the cureent administration which has a budget larger than all the former administrations combined. That makes sense given we’re borrowing cash from China and have a 10 trillion defecit let’s just spend more. Once the fiscal irresponsibility takes control the government collapses and it is followed by a dictatorship that doesn’t give a crap about wellfare moms and babies daddies and if they whine too much they get put in front of the guns. Thus, fiscal responsibility and control are restored.

In order to avoid this we need politicians who don’t give a crap about trying to make everyone happy, and just call it like it is: it is unlawful for a government to redistribute wealth, just because you aren’t responsible. America was founded on the guarantee of opportunity not of outcome.

Ohhhhh….that’s right, the current administration is responsible for this mess that has been building for years and years. Blame the black guy who is trying to fix things…that makes a lot of sense. The government has been fucking things up little by little for a long time, and now we can finally see how bad things have gotten. I work for the government, and in my dept., there is so little accountability for doing your job right. Once you get a government job, you can coast. You can bust your ass like I do because I love helping people, but I’m young, and new, and I’m starting to get tired of it too. What do you do? In my dept, at least, we need to be able to fire people b/c they are incompetent. period. If every government branch runs like mine, it’s no surprise how things got this way…coasting along…don’t rock the boat, etc.

I do not agree that increased education will help. The only thing that will help is removing the incentive to keep reproducing. It was once that reproduction was a cherished, valued thing… Now it’s but another commodity for us. The New Jersey limit of 2 children per welfare recipient is a step in the right direction, and we need some of that action on a FEDERAL level instead of simply statutory.

A mandatory Depo-Provera shot will be inexpensive and easy to administer. Lord knows these welfare queens have ample buttcheek where the physician can place the shot…

Right on TAP. Can we get a flyer to distribute? Arrange a congress call? A mass letter to senators? SOMETHING? We need to take action, it starts with The Anger Pharmers! (US!)

I worked with one pharmacist who would willingly fill medicaid customers’ prescriptions for cash, but then would call medicaid and report them. one lady came in fuming that she got a call from the state asking for an explanation. i would love to go to court just to watch that one!

Just the other day, I read an article in the paper about how WA state was trying to figure out how to cut 40K people off the “basic health” plan (aka welfare, but you have to pay a teeny premium each month) to meet budget cuts. My FIRST thought was to call the state and tell them to check what kind of cars these people have registered in their names. I’m soooooo tired of seeing the welfare moms roll through the drive through in their fancy cars!

Don’t think that politics is the only ‘answer’ though it seems that results of or lack thereof from political action which provide funding for the welfaremom-gate incentive to spend just more of tax dollars…(especially don’t think the decisions result from current administration, hmmm 100 days..don’t think so.)

As a child in a very large family…monthly take-home paycheck sometimes left us with the choice of sliced air sandwiches and effervescent water right out of the tap. My parents would probably have had us kids making handbrooms from grass before requesting government assistance, though I suspect they would’ve picked up extra jobs first outside the home first before resorting to child labor. My dad considered his job to provide financially for the family and my mother considered her job to ensure order and consistency in the home.

I remember as an intern at Osco, my first processing of a welfare payment for a woman with metallic pink fingernails painted with little flowers dabbed on with what must’ve been a special tiny brush. I probably had many conflicting thoughts but I recall wondering what exactly she kind of job she had that she could wear nails like that yet have to be on the public dole, and and that wearing nails like that did not allow for working jobs that required much to do with one’s hands (though I since have met a physician who had similarly long nails who must occasionally perform rectal exams in her line of work.)

It was some years later, I learned to my astonishment, in certain psychologically dysfunctional social units (even involving incest, child abuse, and neglect) females might perpetuate a cycle of ‘welfare’ dependency. Certainly someone that studies this kind of sociological phenomenon might choose to find correlation between current state of affairs (welfare programs), commonly observed society behaviors (as touted by our TV personalities and politicians e.g. Mr. Clinton et al), and limits of financial tolerance. If there were limits to access that allowed no financial support, what or how would be the eventual outcome of dependency on public funding of ‘welfare moms’? For example, if the money was provided with accountability requirements to the children (that had no choice in the matter), would this be an incentive for working moms with state daycare? The business of providing clomiphene with inadequate care resources is simply NOT right.

That one was just today – poor kid in the back seat coughing so hard it made MY lungs hurt, and Mommy Dearest wouldn’t pay for the syrup. I try hard to not want to reach through the window and pull a Homer Simpson, but it’s not always easy.

Especially when I’m working my ass off for less than ten bucks an hour, studying in nearly every spare waking moment I have, and self-medicating because I don’t have my own health insurance and can’t afford either the doctor’s visit, or the emergency room bill for strep (and have to depend on the kindness of a friend to get an antibiotic.)

NO You dont get money because you have a back pain and cant speak ENGLISH (you can, cuz I tricked you after a round of ‘spanglish’ – you speak English just fine…And NO you dont get SSI when you ‘hear voices that call your name’ but have no other RX except Hydroco (which when mixed with other certain drugs would make anyone happily ‘hear voices calling their name’

And just for the record: DONT TELL YOUR FRIENDS AND RELATIVES TO c’MOn down to the US for SSI because I KNOW your not disabled, and I WILL prove it.

So when folks rant about medicaid, welfare moms etc…and they hear that most ‘people get denied’ for Social security (if you listen to the deep intonations of the disability lawyer commercials planted in between soaps and Maury…) THOSE PEOPLE ARE DENIED BECAUSE PEOPLE LIKE ME SNIFF THEM OUT!!!! and you should thank us!!

    1) Six month moratorium on ALL welfare programs. Use that time to search for a a real, honest-to-goodness American job. You won’t just earn cash, but a chance to take pride in something other than feeding off the American teet.

    or…

    2) Require every penny to be repaid in a reasonable amount of time. When our lazy, girthier citizens ralize there isn’t a free ride, they’ll be forced to find other means to sustain themselves.

You’re obviously a member of one of the scammy, cult-ish Christian denominations that teach whatever they want regardless of what the Bible says, since the Bible talks about sloth and laziness over and over again:

Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth.
      Proverbs 10:3-5

The lazy man does not roast his game, but the diligent man prizes his possessions.
      Proverbs 12:26-28

      Matthew 25:25-27

(throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’)

We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.
      Hebrews 6:11-13

Clearly, even Christ Himself associates laziness with wickedness. So, these mothers who want nothing to do with getting a job or working and would rather live off other people’s tax money and have as many babies as they want are clearly associating themselves with wickedness.

      Checkmate.

Worse, there are “quiverful” mothers out there right now, on welfare and especially Medicaid specifically so they can have piles of children (a full quiver) that they can’t hope to pay for. 10′s of thousands (including birth) of government expense. I know of some great cases where the dad was on disability too–and of course the mother doesn’t work, since that isn’t “godly”. Add the homeschooling & culty nuttiness on top of that, you not only have kids who are a burden to society now, there’s a good chance quite a few of them will be a burden to society for a good long time.

  48. Shalom (R.Ph.) says:

New York State Medicaid does not give vacation overrides.

I had someone come in two weeks early for his meds; told him he’s not getting them. He said, “But I’m going to the Dominican Republic for two weeks!” My response to him (which probably got me reported to the head office, but fsck it) was “Well, the State of New York’s attitude is, if you can afford to go to the Dominican Republic, you can afford to pay cash for your medications.”

I generally tell them that they should just consider the cost of the meds as a part of the cost of their vacation. (And it’s not just medicaid. I had one patient who was going to the West Coast on business and needed an early refill. It wasn’t a narc (I don’t fill those early regardless of how you pay for it) but his insurance wouldn’t grant the override. I told him, “You’re travelling on business, right? So submit it to your company for reimbursement as a travel expense. It’s their fault you have to pay cash, isn’t it?” He said, “You know, that never occurred to me, I’ll do that.” Paid cash and left happy.)

New York State does not pay for fertility treatments either; I’m surprised that other states do. In fact, birth controls are one of the few classes of drugs that have zero copay. (Not that they ever pay it, but still.)

What bugs me the most is the calls I get for OTCs, where the girl at the office gives me the patient name and d/o/b, and says “Tylenol suspension. Next patient is…” I tell her “Hold on, you haven’t finished with that rx yet. What’s the directions for use? “Uhh, as directed.” “Not good enough, there aren’t any labeled directions for that age group.” “Uh, lemme go ask the doctor.” She comes back with the directions, again tries to go on, and I have to stop her again and get a quantity to dispense (sometimes she says “I just told you, 3/4 teaspoon…” Me: “No, how much *total*?” “Uh, lemme go ask…”) It’s like they think I’m a supermarket — all they have to do is give me the name of an OTC med, no further info, and I just throw the bottle at them and bill Medicaid for it. Ain’t like that, girl, if you’re calling in a prescription it’s got certain requirements, it gets a label and everything. The worst is when she finishes by saying, “Oh, if it’s not covered they don’t want it.” This is a new thing to me, that how much a patient needs a medication depends on whether Medicaid will pay for it.

Unfortunately, I hate to burst your bubble, but New York State DOES allow vacation overrides for Medicaid recipients. As the person you call when Medicaid claims deny, I die a little inside every time I have to give out the override instructions to a pharmacy so the recipient can take a 3 month vacation to Europe. And ALSO; if you’ve lost your $3k+ HIV meds for the 4th time this year, I’d much rather punch you in the face than help you get an early refill again….maybe you’d stop being irresponsible and ‘leaving it on the bus’ when YOU actually had to pay for those ridiculously expensive medications that keep you ALIVE.

And you think it would be common sense that MEDICAID doesn’t cover fertility stimulating drugs, but I’m amazed by the number of pharmacists and techs I explain this to (ie, MEDICAID doesn’t want to HELP women get PREGNANT) who then reply, “Well, why not?” It is at that point I bash my head on the desk and give up on the world.

You have hit the nail on the head regarding welfare mothers, but that is only one of the outrages I deal with. In Michigan you use to never see an able-bodied man on assistance. Now, half the Vicodin rxs are brought in by young to middle-aged men sporting a MIhealth (medicaid) card. OK, $5.00 worth of pills no big sweat but the bogus ER visit or god-forbid bogus hospital admission costs taxpayers a fortune.

I am unfortunately a product of this behavior. Fortunately, however, my sisters found it disgusting and got myself and my younger sibling out.
I don’t understand the entitlement that is expressed here. I vividly remember this scenario: My sister and I were on Medicaid when she developed seizure disorder. Our guardian (oldest sister and at the time 2nd yr med student) and I were listening as the Intern ran over medication options for my 15 y/o sister. She seemed to be having a stream of conscious conversation with herself that included Dilantin, Lamictal, Depakote, etc. Somewhere along the line, the Intern decided against Dilantin (I think it’s a relatively cheap medicine) because of possible risks to a fetus and recommended Lamictal (more expensive). Guardian lit into my sis, who profusely denied having sex. The poor Intern returned with an rx for the dilantin. I guess I don’t understand how someone would not only abuse the system, but then have the audacity to be arrogant. Anytime I had to use that damn card, I was so ashamed.
I agree with the Depo shot and tying of tubes. Pretty sure that most high school drop outs should have a vasectomy. Thanks for the post.

I was talking to an old friend from high school the other day and he was working three jobs to support his wife/child. I asked him why not use the welfare system like everyone else? He gave me some macho pride BS about not wanting to go on welfare. It actually was a relief to know that not all poor people believe the government should pay for them.

It’s rather ironic that the best insurance plan is given to the poor, while the hard working middle class gets stuck with so much uncertainty of never knowing how much they need to pay because of tiers and limits.

Also I remember 5 years ago if a welfare patient had a toothache welfare would simply pay to have to tooth pulled. Now the welfare system is willing to pay for root canals in order to save the teeth. Root canals are more expensive and usually require more follow up work.

Universal healthcare (for citizens–all others get in line) would cut a whole lot of the BS out there right now. Note: universal healthcare does not mean “no copays”.

How about at birth, or as close as you can get to it, every child is ‘sterilized’? From that point forward, all of the money that is currently going to irresponsible parents will now go to the ‘Board’ who interviews all prospective parents who want to have children. They have to be of stable mind/body/HAVE A JOB to be able to conceive. When I was growing up, there was a family across the street who had 10, yes TEN kids in a three bedroom townhome. A home that was about half the size of our house, (which had three kids) These 10 kids were never bathed, ran around in clothing 3 days old, and never had any supervision. Did either parent work? Nope. These subjects get me so heated!!!! Imagine the quality of care those children are receiving, or in this case, NOT receiving. They will never get the love they are seeking, and will learn that treating others the way they treated their family is acceptable. The greatest thing of them all? Know why she was having kids? CUZ SHE LIKED BABIES. When they got older though, she really could do without them. Are you kidding me….

If NYS Medicaid covers vacation overrides, either they didn’t in 2004 (I’ve been working mostly in NJ since then), or if they did, I didn’t want to know about it.

See, back then, you could put an 02 override on anything and get a label out, but there was a chance you wouldn’t get paid for it, and they (you?) couldn’t tell us ahead of time what would be rejected retroactively (“use your professional judgment”), so we were conservative in what we overrode. If I could document a good reason for an early fill, I’d take the chance. Therefore, if someone claimed they lost something, I would tell them to go to the precinct and file a Lost Property report; I’d tell them that I’d keep it “in their file” in case Medicaid wanted to know why they were filling it early. This usually got rid of the fakers, as uttering and publishing a false instrument had a bigger penalty than medicaid fraud, and they knew it. Once, though, a guy came back with a paper torn from a notebook, with a handwritten statement that the person “…left his medicine on the bus, signed, the 26th Precinct.” Right, and Epstein’s Mother was working the desk that day. Sure.

As to those who can’t comprehend why Clomid ain’t covered. If someone asked me “Why not?”, my first response would be “For the same reason that there’s no copay on birth control.”

I totally agree! I think we need to sterilize the men and women getting any assistance after the first child. The woman can’t have children without the man, so they both need it. They also shouldn’t be allowed to buy beer/alcohol, cigarettes, or anything else that they’re money can be used for to better they’re life. I actually think pregnancy and the ability to get some one pregnant should be stopped at birth. Only way you are allowed to reverse that is if you take an exam and deemed able to take of that child. If you want to do all the leisure activities don’t ask me to pay for them.

I’m on Medicaid I ain’t got to pay!” That really burns me!!! They bitch about two damn dollars for a 90 day supply of Singulair (valued at over $500 might I add) when they have new clothes, shoes, nails, hair and not to mention the new fuckin Mercedes Benz that is parked next to my rust bucket in the parking lot because I can’t afford to buy a brand new car because I actually have to pay for child care housing food etc.. It annoys me that these people live for free off my tax dollars and when a hard working tax payer gets laid off (my husband) is denied for everything under the sun because we make more that 120% above poverty level!! What the hell is poverty level then? I am all for people who use the system to better the lives of themselves and their children in a positive way. But these lazy ass people men and women who lay on their ass day while I am at work for 8 plus hours making a life for my family have the nerve to call the pharmacy 50 times in a hour to check if their MD called the script in for their migraines cause their kids are driving them nuts!!! Get a damn job then and get off your back! And by the way it really pisses me off to see ER scripts for Benadryl, Motrin, Vaporizers, Hydrocortisone, Tylenol etc… These idiots are so stupid and worried about having to pay for something that in the time that they drove to the ER waited for 4 hours drove to and from the ER to the pharmacy and home that they could have just bought the shit OTC!!! Another one, you take your child to the ER on a weekday after office hours for who knows what, they give you a RX for antibiotics (which they probably don’t need them anyway) but you decide to wait for 2 months to bring that RX in to fill at 5 minutes before we close and say they need it right away Give me a fucking break people! I wish someone at these welfare offices would open their eyes or mouth and think about reorganizing the whole system. I am a 25 year old married mother of 2 kids ages 2 and 4 and never once have I relied on anyone or any program to take care of myself and my family. I had someone yell at me since her $300 medicine had a $3 copay. And of course she had hair done, 6 inch manicured nails, and a designer handbag. Great.

A friend of mine is a pharmacist at CVS. Her 19 year-old pharmacy clerk who has only been working there for 6 months got IVF which was paid for by her insurance at CVS. She is unmarried, lives with her grandmother, and is on medicaid. She said she wanted to have a kid to get government aid to give the money to her family, but couldn’t get pregnant on her own, so she got a job and let her insurance pay for IVF and let everyone else pay for the kid. She plans on quitting after the baby is born.

I agree with so much of what you’ve written. The stereotype (well deserved) of people on aid causes me a lot of embarrassment when I have to use food stamps or Medicaid. Too bad there isn’t a way to distinguish the people who are using the services as intended vs. the lazy, the uninspired, and the outright abusers of the system.

I was (and still am) in nursing school when my five-year-old and I were suddenly abandoned by my husband of seven years. He quit his job (so no insurance, no child support, no income at all) and walked out of the house in the middle of the night with absolutely no warning.
I called my mortgage company, put my home up for rent to cover the mortgage, packed a few things and moved in with my mother. Got food stamps, childcare assistance, education assistance, medicaid, and psychological help for the kid. I got nicotine patches from the health department and quit smoking. I switched from diet coke to unsweetened iced tea. I never missed a day of school in the process.
The only way I can show people that I am not a stereotype is by not abusing the meager benefits I’ve been allowed. You will not see soda, candy, or chips in my cart when the government is paying to feed my precious child. I try to get every bit of nutrition I can out of those 250 dollars’ worth of food.

I’d happily submit to drug testing, as I’ve never done a drug in my life. Personally, I would decline the birth control shot, as I am doing okay without cash assistance. I’d accept an IUD, though, as a gesture of my intentions to be responsible and my gratitude for the temporary assistance.

And thank you to everyone for understanding that some people use the help as it was intended. I plan to be employed and paying my own taxes in the near future.

I thought I was the only one who felt this way. People do need a hand from time to time. The welfare system was not designed to be a way of life. Alot of people are trying to get a bill passed where if you recieve housing/foodstamps/cash/medical (the whole state goody package) that you should be required to do manadatory drug/alcohol testing. Dirty urine? Benefits cut. I received medical assistance one time, when I got pregnant at a young age. After my husband and I had our second child in 1990 we knew that we couldn’t afford any more, so I had my tubes cut, tied and burned. I went back to work when my child was 3 days old. I waitressed until 2 days before I gave birth. I thank God that I was able to get decent prenatal care. My children are now 19 and 24. Everyone works or is getting an education. My local pharmacist is wonderful. He is on our Christmas card list. I have no health insurance. I pay cash. So when he can advise me on a cheaper medicine or any type of discount he does. My husband died June 1, 2009. He was a veteran. He died of esophogeal cancer. The VA kept sending the wrong supplies, and he ended up suffocating to death in our bed because he was waiting for inner canulas for his trach, and the trach got more and more clogged. The local pharmacist got me the inner canulas but by than it was too late, they didn’t fit inside the trach. The VA shipped them to me after he died. So when I see people getting free prescriptions and food and housing, yes, I get angry. Maybe if I would have had state aid I could have gotten those canulas quicker. BTW, the local pharmacist ordered me a box and charged me cost. When my husband died I donated about $800 worth of medical supplies to the local medical supply company. He had a peg tube in his stomach. Medicaid only pays for two cases of liquid food a month. They are $45 a case. Most people go through a case every three days. They promised me they would use all the supplies for people who really needed them. To all you pharmacists out there who are decent and nice, thank you. It is appreciated by many. For those who abuse the system, I have no words. It seems to be a waste of breath. Sorry for my little rant. Enjoyed reading your blog.

I must agree wholeheartedly. I have to admit, my boyfriend and I are currently on the ‘state ride’. I had an oops almost two years ago (while properly utilizing birth control pills). I took state medical while I was pregnant, but nothing else. We did fine for the first six months or so after my son was born, but after my boyfriend was laid off from two consecutive jobs due to the economic downturn, we really had no choice. We are both currently in college, he’s upgrading his skills and I’m learning an entirely new field. I predict that we’ll be entirely off of assistance soon, hopefully within the next six months. What I don’t understand is some of the women in the (state-mandated) life skills class that have three or four kids and much nicer clothes than I’ve ever owned, complaining about the (meager) participation requirements for the TANF program. They just can’t be bothered to get up at 8 in the morning in order to continue receiving the check that supports their children, and yet they complain when they’re sanctioned. It just makes no sense to me.

    Story: (Small town Georgia)
Pharmacist to Intern: “Today is going to suck, I promise, its welfare check day, so every one in 20 miles will be here today. And 95% will get their bitch on about something.

Intern: *rolls eyes*…..and how exactly is that going to be a surprise?

    *Drive Thru Chime*

Lady in Brand New Navigator with spinners: I want my prescriptions, and my kids prescriptions (screaming kids in car).

Pharmacist to Lady: Just one second and I’ll combine the bags, and I’ll be right back. Ok, I have all 10 medications here, you total is $2.20.

Lady: What? Shooot, no. I ain’t payin’. My stuff is free.

    PharmacistL Apparently not everything.

    Lady: SO make it free.

    Pharmacist: Um, no.

Lady: I have five kids, and me and them is all free.

Pharmacist: It would seem not, you can call your Welfare number if you want and come back later. But as of right now, they processed through, and two of the prescriptions are $1.10. Your total is $2.20.

    Lady: I’m not paying.

Pharmacist: Well, what would you like to do?

Lady: You can just give them to me.

Pharmacist: Ma’am I own this pharmacy and no one here is going to just give you and entire fill of anything just because you have an issues paying for $2.20 when you are obviously not broke.

    Lady: Excuse me?

Pharmacist: Well you have a brand new and pimp out Navigator, and god only knows how many of your kids are with you in it eating food that your food stamps bought. Half my salary goes to the government, so you can continue to leech off the decent people in society. SO perhaps maybe I should take out my wallet and pay your $2.20 like I pay for everything else you do. And while I’m at it….*flipping through wallet* would you like a few 20′s for when you go get your hair ‘did’? Or maybe a few hundred for a new left front rim cause it looks like you scratched the one that my tax dollars already bought you.

I really enjoyed reading all of your comments today. I have a daughter and a loser in law, I mean son-in-law, and unfortunately they have been sucking off society for about 7 or 8 years now. It totally ticks me off (not my first choice of words). My daughter did the have a baby at 16 thing, the loser father is still a loser. She then marries loser-in-law, but in the mean time I am raising my grandchild. Stupid daughter then has another child with loser hubby. All the while they are getting free rides the whole time. Medicaid, food stamps…and then my daughter is given social security disability check every month for bipolar disorder. They have cigarettes of course, cable tv, tattoos, belly rings etc. GRRRRR. Then along comes baby number 3…of course! I told them somebody better get sterilized or I was going to do the surgery MYSELF! I am sick of their sense of entitlement, I have tried for years to teach them budgeting skills, helped her get enrolled in school to be able to work (she dropped out of course). Too lazy you know. They have lived with my husband and I MANY times over these years when they go belly up because of drug use, non payment of rents, or other legal troubles. Loser-in-law went to rehab AGAIN a month ago…we’ll see how long he stays clean. Loser daughter (who I really do love, but I think she is stupid, lazy, and irresponsible…is in rehab now, for the first time. She started out by just smoking her pot, then she went on to xanax occaisionally, then did the meth thing for a while, and last but not least 3 months ago decided to try injecting Dilaudids! BRILLIANT! So now I have one child (still), my son has one child, and loser-in-law has one, but I think child should be taken from him personally. However child abuse folks don’t seem to be able to help in protecting my grandchildren they tell me…hmmmm. My stupid daughter had a party in her rental house 2 weeks ago, and another loser decided to use a huge amount of crack while there…then proceeded to drop dead right there on her sofa! 48 years old. My 2 young grandchildren were present…but family services says that is not enough to step in to make sure they are safe! Lovely. Now I am in the process of trying to get my infant grandsons crib and belongings out of the drug house my daughter has been in for the last week before going to rehab. I called this drugged up ***** yesterday and asked if I coulf get the baby’s stuff…she proceeded to get hateful and asked me if I had any RESPECT, because HER child was asleep right then, but I could hear people talking loudy and very inappropriately in the background! I said she shouldn’t be talking about anyone having respect because you have a house full of folks over there shoving crap in their veins with the kids there. Another GRRRR. I am very angry right now. I am not an addict, never have been, so I do not understand it at all. That lady druggie on the phone then also yelled at me and asked me where I was last week when Lindsay wanted something…I said waiting right here for her to want HELP, or recovery…not money for drugs because I refuse to be the enabler. They were hoping to get her disability check for drugs! If she wants my help, she will name me as payee on that social security check, and I will control finances…I will NOT help her and allow our hard earned tax dollars to be used for cigarettes, drugs, or other ignorant crap. Please forgive my rant…but I feel better now. I agree that society needs to revolt, and simply say ENOUGH! Our country is going to hell in a hand basket while a lot of us (myself and my husband included) have to work 2 jobs to get by without aid of the government…but we have pride, and will do what we have to. We have a great work ethic, and are very responsible. I am like all of you, I am sick of paying through the nose for others to be able to sleep until noon every day, have fancy cars and cell phones, and we are going to garage sales to find bargains!!@!

I have worked for 11 years in a school system in maine as a special needs bus driver. I have seen so many “welfare moms” take advantage of the sytem that I want to go to each and every home and beat them senseless!! I have a little girl (9) who gets herself up every morning, tries to dress herself and get to school. She’ll be walking down the street 1/2 hour before her pick up time dressed in a nearly see through mini dress and go go boots and nothing else, in the WINTER!! When I ask her about her clothing, she just says, “well I don’t have much so I just take some of my mom’s stuff.” When I find her (she’s never at her bus stop, and guess what!! I’m responsible for her safty and can be held responsible for anything that happens to her!) I ask her where her mom is and the answer is always the same….she’s sick a lot and is still sleeping….(i.e….got to wasted on drug of choice… just saying.) I brought this to the attention of the special education coodinator, my supervisor and the vice principal of our school. the solution…well we can’t make mom take more responsibility for being a mother to her daughter so you will now have to take a full size school bus down a small road to a small rotary area, go to the girls door, knock on the door and escort her to the bus!WHAT THE F*%#!! It’s a private section 8 housing area (free room and board welfare sluts…come and get it!!) so I need written permission to go down there…not only that MY BUS WON’T FIT. When I tell the vice principal this she just looked at me and said well it’s your problem figure it out. FIGURE IT OUT!!! I’m not this child’s mother…don’t want to be…I just want to drive her to and from school!! I have about 28 other “special needs” students to get to 6 differant schools on time..and now the school administration is just throwing this obvious lack of parental concern back in my lap!

I have another “welfare mom” who’s son has flat feet so we have to pick him up on the bus to get him to school…they live 6 houses away !! Talk about abuse of the special needs system…let’s not forget the 8th grade boy I pick up that should be on a regular bus run but isn’t because his “welfare mom” has decided that the noise on the regular bus might bother her son…this same mother can’t be bothered to go to school meetings so they go to her apartment!! Folks your school taxdollars are being wasted by these “WH*^%s!

I live in Canada…and after leaving an abusive husband of 8 years, found myself unable to find a job or pay my bills. I went on our version of welfare, and you know…the girls at the office were AMAZING. One of the girls confided in me that she would do anything for me, BECAUSE she knew I was actively looking for a job and wouldn’t be with them long. It took me 2 months…and I had a job and could support myself. I sent the girls a big gift basket of goodies, because they were so helpful, and without them, I had no idea what I would have done.

That said…if I had been REQUIRED to recieve a depo provera shot before recieving any aid (which was a measly $600/month by the way) I would have whipped my pants down and presented an ass cheek. It’s a small price to pay for help. Seriously.

I think mandatory birth control SHOULD be law…both in the US and Canada. I sadly know MANY MANY MANY girls that I went to school with, who now have multiple children by different fathers, and have been sitting on welfare for 5-10 years each. Disgusting.

The real kicker is…years after having to use welfare, I am married with two beautiful step kids. We live on a small farm, and my husband is manager of a large oilfield company. I own my own business, and we are very financially stable. I have no kids of my own, and would like one with my husband….but I can’t have kids. I’ve suffered multiple miscarriages, and have pretty much given up after years of trying to conceive. Yet…the cracked out 17 year old who took her newborn twins for a walk downtown in the middle of winter with -40*c temperatures, with them only wearing a thin receiving blanket and diapers….she can get pregnant no problem. Tell me how THAT is fair?

(Also…in Canada, welfare can be given for 3 months, and then requires 1 month off of welfare before you can recieve any aid again. You also must PROVE that you are trying to gain employment, and they have lots of resources for obtaining schooling or skills training.)

I made a few of the comments above on my post on the subject and my liberal instructor attacked me with questions \Why can they not get to their appointments? M/b they do not have transportation?\ I don’t know why these idiots do not even call to make the appointment, it is there for them use at my expense. Still they, poor things that they are, do not have adequate transportation to take little miss inocent and sweet to the doctor. Well why doesn’t she get the person who took her to get those stupid looking fake fingernails to take her? An hey, who is she talking to on her cell phone? Why, m/b they could take her??? It is not like they go the MD every other day for petes sake. They seem to find transportation to get everywhere else they want to go!

First off,I must say that…..none of these women would be on assistance if guys in this world act like real men and get married and PROVIDE for the family they make!!!!!! Why is there so many deadbeat dads out there that can’t take care of their kids? Maybe society should be setting a better example for men. It is pretty sad that out welfare system is flooded with single moms and that just shows that our world is flooded with guys that cannot provide which makes them not a REAL man!!!! Also, I think that guys should be more responsible as well and maybe start using condoms if they do not want to take care of kids! It takes two to make a baby and you should really kick back on woman on welfare and at least give them credit for going on welfare to take care of the kids unlike the fathers and at least they aren’t dumping their babies in the trash. Also word of advise last I heard you can only receive cash aid for up to 5 years so technically the state will not be raising these kids…the parents will have to figure something out and hopefully get an education so they can get off welfare and provide for their kids!!!! People have no idea how hard it is to be a single mother and should really kick the fuck back unless you are walking in their shoes! Also for the guy that wrote this….sounds like he is one of the deadbeat dads that has anger towards the system that is going after him for child support!!! He also sounds like a very unhappy person that is probally single and will never even have kids!!

Thank you for the tidbit about how the “working” side of welfare. I happened to have saved up for maternity medical and the whole bit before trying for my daughter -all the ducks in a row so to say and I got really ill, lost my job and ended up with a ton of medical bills my insurance didn’t cover.

All the things I would of planned for before having her if I had known.

As much as I knew I wanted another child – when I was told they would pay for one year of birth control my choice – I purposely choose the one that would last for five years instead of pills I don’t trust anyway.

My baby girl deserves me waiting until I can afford to give her a sibling – even if it means she doesn’t have one. This is coming from someone that wants 2-3 kids and has said so for the last ten years.

You got it all backwards with me. The first kid I was stupid and irresponsible, the second one, the only thing stupid about it was that it was with a guy who refuses to marry anyone. We had the money, and could afford a second kid without assistance (if he would have married me). Now, I’m working my ass off to get off the said system because well…. it’s more work to be working on it, then it is to just live off the system.

However, I do not think that living off the state is any different than having a “sugar daddy” (mentality wise) and this is a commonly taught practice among women. I get shit because I’m told “why are you even working? Don’t you have a man to pay for all your bills? Don’t you have kids you should be sitting on your ass taking care of them, let the state pay” and I don’t want to live like that.

FUCK THIS! First off, I’m not a whore! Living off of your “man”‘s money is getting paid to have sex with someone…. thank you, that makes you a whore! (this is of course different than being a stay at home mother where you actually work at home and are productive in a relationship).

Damn, now I’m on my own rant.

Anyway, the point is, although, I’m not sure that I would have my beautiful children if this were the case, I say:

If it weren’t for the fact that there is no legal way to do it, I would LOVE to see mandatory B.C. given until you can prove yourself ready to be a parent, at least on a mental standpoint, and have taken parenting classes to then see how you are still not really ready. THEN are given charge of a demon child from hell, which you are fully responsible for over the course of say… a month. By then you don’t want children anymore… Problem solved…. of course, I’m pretty sure that our species would die out.

lol.not sure if you realize it or not,but welfare isnt guarenteed for life, thieseems yor is a lifertime max of 48 months for one,for two? you cant get it untill you workk or volunteer, you have to do this for afdc money.3rd of all, when you start woprking, you have to pay back the money you got for the kids..so all this free ride stuiff is ridiculous.seems your lying the whole blame on the mothers, you know it takes to to tango sweetie,
but i do agree that having more kids is a stupidity itself, when your not in the position to care for them though.
