The big welfare mother rant.

This one is going to be a doozy, so please read the entire post before writing me a 10 page comment about your life story and how much of an asshole I am.  If you still wish to write me a 10 page comment on how society forced you to get knocked up while on welfare, then I’ll give you a story how society FORCED ME to use rough 2-ply toilet paper to wipe my ass instead of the good soft stuff.

Oh, and for the record, “welfare” here means full blown don’t-have-to-work-all-inclusive aid.  I’m not going to pick apart food-stamps but not free-housing or check, etc.  I say government ticket, I mean the entire government ticket.

This is how I see the welfare system working:

Girl “falls in love” at the ripe age of 16, and through the magic of laziness, hormones, stupidity, and complete irresponsibility allows herself to get pregnant by some loser.  The loser, taking  parenting advice from rap stars and TV idols, leaves that bitch and moves on (“hey, don’t hate the playa, hate the game”).  The mother, now single and with child, goes on the system to get assistance until she can finish school and get a job.  At which point she gets off of the system and pulls herself up by her bootstraps and becomes a model mother and a productive member of society.

That above I have no problem paying for.  Hell, believe it or not, that’s what the system was intended for!  However this is what mostly will happen:

Girl above, when her child is 2 years old, finds another douchebag reject and through the magic of not-fucking-learning-the-first-time gets pregnant AGAIN.  Repeat about 4 more times.  Kids run out of control and tear my shelves apart, and she bitches at me because the Septra suspension for kid #5 is grape flavored and not cherry.

Let it be known herein and throughout the tubes of the Internet.  If you are already on welfare, and you get pregnant again (ie: you already are established on the system and you spread your legs and accept seed again), you are the most irresponsible, stupid, waste of human skin on the planet.  You are nothing more than a receptacle for some dude to keep his sausage warm and serve no use to us other than to leech away our money like a tick on the ass-end of society.  Go and make porn flicks because your only mental and physical skill in life involves your mouth and between your legs.

It blows my mind how absolutely stupid someone can be to be on welfare (you know, implied that you cannot take care of yourself so the state has to take care of you) and bring another child into this world.  Getting pregnant once is a freebie in my book, shit happens (though barely now that Plan-B is OTC). The second time however is 100% you’re-a-fucking-moron.  The third one on is what-the-fuck-were-you-thinking (oh, you werent).  Birth control is FREE! It just takes a bit of effort (ie: getting off of your ass) to get!   Have they gotten the memo that welfare is not intended for living off of for your entire life?  Did it ever occur to them that if the welfare system suddenly says “Uh, no more money for checks, so sorry!” they are completely and utterly fucked?  Ugh, so retarded and so stupid.

Lets compare 2 irresponsible acts:

  • Spending your check on spinning rims instead of job-interview clothes: IRRESPONSIBLE
  • Bringing another human-being into this world when you are 100% reliant on the state to wipe your ass currently: REALLY-FUCKING-IRRESPONSIBLE

Usually if you cannot afford something; car, boat, whatever; it gets repo’d.  YOU CANNOT DO THAT WITH A CHILD!  Pregnancy isn’t some magical unknown event that just “happens”.  Its as preventable as avoiding getting your car stolen by LOCKING IT, or avoiding wrecking your car by NOT RUNNING INTO WALLS.  Which means that the only way these career welfare mothers are getting pregnant is out of sheer laziness and stupidity.  Surprise surprise!  Close your legs until you can afford to open them!

My solution, and one offered by other readers on here, is every 3 months, when you get your welfare paperwork reevaluated, you get a shot of Depot Provera.  I don’t give a rats ass about side-effects, these people are already on the downward slide, so we’re doing damage control now.  You want your check, you get your depot shot.  You don’t want your birth control shot? Then I guess you get no check!  The state pays for your life, the state gets to make the rules.  In “real life” if my boss asks me to clean the toilets, then I clean the toilets.  Know why? Because my job pays for my life, so my job gets to make the rules.  I realize that the “job” part is a foreign concept, but just trust me on this one.

I know I’m going to get at least one comment by some idiot saying that “reproduction is a right”.  Well, to them I say “Leave your gated community in your $60k SUV once in a while and open your fucking eyes.  If they have a right to reproduce like fucking rabbits, then I have a right to not pay a fucking dime towards the product of their irresponsibility.”   Seriously! Fuck and reproduce all you want, but don’t come to Uncle Sam asking for a double fist of government cheese.

So, I challenge you all to give me ONE DECENT point that refutes my belief that the woman who is on welfare and gets pregnant yet again is the most irresponsible person on the planet.

For your enjoyment (and since we’re talking about the pinnacle of irresponsibility), here is Octomom in a blender:

Love it!!! You are so right!! I think that all states should follow NJ law of 2 kids on welfare that’s it! If those of us paying the taxes to support these welfare sucking breeders have to limit the number of children we have because we can’t afford it, then those people on welfare need to learn this lesson yesterday.

    • Cert.RxTech says:

I say if they’re on medicaid and unmarried when they have the 2nd child, it should be a law that the doc has to tie her tubes!! might be harsh, but why the fuck should people who pay money to go to school to earn a good living have to pay for these worthless fucking people who think they’re better than everyone else because they don’t do shit. I get so sick of these fucking nasty ass mothers coming in bitching about their children “having” to have their Adderall! IT’S PRETTY CONVENIENT THAT ON TOP OF PAYING FOR THE FUCKING MEDICATION, THE PARENTS GET A CHECK EVERY MONTH FROM THE STATE OF IL TO HAVE THEM ON IT!!! Why is our deficit so big???? Fuck, I don’t know!! Probably because we have worthless fucking people on medicaid who think their children “have to have” their Adderall and their clonidine because they can’t fucking sleep because they’re so strung out on stimulants!!! How fucking stupid!! I also love how Medicaid will pay for Plan B multiple times every month or weekly!! Yes, this is bc, but why not take an everyday oral contraceptive!!! I also love how if they get a monthly bc, they can also get Plan B!!! Our state government is soooooo fucking ignorant!!! And why the fuck should I have to take a drug test to work at Walgreen’s, but these fucking pieces of shit don’t have to be tested before my money is handed out to them!!! If they have money to buy weed and beer every weekend, they sure as hell have enough money to feed themselves!! If they can’t support their children, the state should find someone who can!

      • Nurse Bettie says:

Ya know what’s funny? I was 18 and pregnant with my second kid while in nursing school. (DH was in college as well.) I had Medicaid benefits. I asked my OB to tie my tubes while I was in the hospital, and she told me that Medicaid wouldn’t cover it until I was 25. Seems like they should have stood on their heads to make that happen! BTW, the food stamps and benefits I received worked as intended. Thanks to the temporary help I received, I was able to finish school, get a job and provide my family with housing, food, clothing and insurance. So have faith, guys. Sometimes the system actually works!

        • KatyCat says:

Nurse Betty if everyone thought the same way you do then the system would be doing what it was intended to do. Kudos on getting a career and bettering yourself…independence is the greatest thing ever and you’ve achieved that.

The other day there was a welfare mom that came in to drop of a script for amoxicillin for her baby. She didn’t have her medicaid card on her (how unusual is that?) Anyway, long story short, she didn’t want to pay the measly $4 for a rx for her child (keep in mind she could bring the damn card in the next day and get a refund) but she had 2 cases of wine coolers that she paid for out of pocket. Those are the people that need to have their kids taken and given to a home that will take care of them.

Screw the system and the idiots that live off our hard-earned money.

        • Jessica says:

I’m in the exact same place..sort of. Had a boy at 25 with my husband, after we divorced I couldn’t pay for groceries, bills, and go to school full-time (i’m in graduate school). So the state helps me to the extent of my son’s health care and our groceries, and about 10% of daycare charges. I wrote the company that makes the IUD and explained my situation (low-income single-mom student) and they sent one to my doctor free of charge, which she implanted for free. 10 years of birth control, all I had to do was write a letter.

          • rph3664 says:

Jessica, you are the kind of person that public aid was designed for!

          • Jose says:

You didn’t have to have sex for those ten years since you were now single, so there was no need to have you fixed for those ten year.

            • VH says:

Says the guy who can not get pregnant..so I guess you have only sex when you can pay for it?

Hey buddy, how about men on welfare are not allowed to have sex as long as they don´t have a job?

…because that could make someone preggers and because men on welfare can not pay child support, they should not be allowed to have sex?

Or better, people like you with a big mouth and no brain should get fixed..because it takes two to get pregnant.

      • a says:

Why does it ALL fall on the woman? Maybe they should go after the MEN that have no respect for these kids or themselves.

        • Lisa says:

No shit. As much as women need to take responsibility, men do too. The women aren’t getting themselves pregnant, after all.

    • Roger says:

I agree 100%. I’ll go one further: What is the %’age of kids by welfare parents that are ABUSED? In other words, are the kids in the U.S. being abused more or less brought into this world by welfare parents or regular, hard-working people?

      • Pharm_tech wasting time with school says:

also i forgot i am a MALE and that part about cops and corrections an military i went to corrections and they literally just arent hiring bcuz of layoffs cops r basically the same and i was gonna go in the air force bcuz i feel they r the smartest and my grandpa worked on everything for space at lockheed martin for many years i wanted air force bcuz they deal with space and air so i go to the recruiter to join and guess what? more bullshit cuz im trying to better my life. i actually could not believe the rule they had. he said i was a great candidate but disqualified because i have 2 kids!!!!!! nothing to do with marriage he said if ur single they allow none and if ur married 1 child!!! then he proceeds to tell me oh well once ur in u can have as many as u want i have 6 myself! i wanted to punch him in his fuckin face!! my dream was that close but i get penalized for having kids!?!?!?!? wtf is wrong with this country!! i dont want to be a semen or a dumb marine. they just want more cannon fodder for their bullshit “wars” i prefer to call them genocide! i never give up and ill keep doing WHAT I CAN but how far can u get when the system is designed to fail??? even u might not know how bad bcuz u r already successful in a career but now there isnt really careers. even if u get into one once ur makin big bucks there gonna lay u off for someone they can pay less. u cant stay anywhere long enough for retirement IDK i feel like im slowly losing my mind more and more every year!!

      • Pharm_tech wasting time with school says:

oh and after reading others comments yes dont u love those “wonderful mothers” that use the states aid for good use. I know ppl from school and what not that r like that. Its disgusting they sell their kids foodstamps for cash or trade for drugs they get free expensive meds that are controlled and they sell those per pill as well and NOW in california soon to be other states im sure. They allow u by simply getting a card to grow marijuana on ur property and as i drive around my community i see all these covered grow places i think wow what will i tell my kids once they start asking what that is and how our government is just basically telling us well ur screwed ur not gonna have a good job good money nice things nothing to look forward to so might as well grow some pot an b a drug dealer so u can make some. My dad has an old hillbilly friend that dont work or anything actually there on government aid OF COURSE and its because they are considered off somehow or weird crazy whatever u wanna call it except i can talk to them perfectly fine they grow plants they cut wood to sell to so i could imagine they can have a job so on top of this aid my dad was telling me how they sold 7 pounds for 1300 dollars than went to the coast for vaca and comes back to sell 25 MORE POUNDS!! for 1400 thats a couple or a few low income ppls yearly income!!! he dont need no fucking aid!!! UGH!! fuck the system its flawed and corrupt a damn shame cuz some americans are really awesome ppl. God bless u normal hard working ppl out there with a brain and some common sense to see the bullshit around u. if only small groups of ppl could actually make a change! but now there is so much over population all over the world due to these wonderful women angrypharmacist was so nice..(or mean) to tell us about. lol Its simply CONTROLLED CHAOS these days! so sad. this country was built with big hopes but its became the land of the handouts!!! help everyone that bitches an complains so we make everyone happy except for the honest hard working ppl who have the respect not to bitch an complain when shit gets hard! And ppl that arent white always complain or racism or segregation or something all the time yet when i get papers from school for grants and loans they blatantly have the african american fund and the latino hispanic fund. Why is there no caucasian fund? why do i get classified as rich and everything i do is easier cuz im white! fuck that! ive been low class and im trying to get my ass out of here cuz i know im high class. stupid ignorant people piss me off u raise us telling us everyone is equal and treat others like u want to be treated and so on but they segregate us themselves. hey lets stick with that motto the government shits on us an treats us like trash so lets do the same to them. oh wait…..we cant cuz they will kill us or assasinate or lock us up for something bogus or do something to keep the ppl from uprising. we r forever screwed and enslaved in the land of the handouts. the sad part is ppl will argue fuck no we r FREE well ya we can make our own decisions still but THAT is the ONLY thing they havent taken from us. hell they carried out the attack on the world trade centers so they banks would fund the war and bush could finish his dads job getting sadaam when they said they want obama…i mean osama. AAAANNNDDD from that “attack” they came up with the wonderful HOMELAND SECURITY. well have u noticed all the “traffic cams” on every corner and all the business cams if ur anywhere in town and they want to track u ur fucked! not to mention laws put in place by OUR homeland security allow them to search ur house anytime with no warrant, they can imprison u for an indefinite amount of time if u r “accused” of a terrorist or anything similar thats a “threat” u can look this law up they can torture u all that im not joking ppl but shit like this the everyday person dont know. they dont want u to. go to the zeitgeist website and get there dvds they r composed of many ppl that dig for the truth and get proof its all in the dvds. THE WORLD IS FUCKED i could rant for hours over a wide span of topics. angrypharmacist has awoken the beast! haha love the site tho it gives me a good laugh and gets me worked up.

    • Pharm_tech wasting time with school says:

so angry pharmacist….where r u from? im guessing california from your nice welfare rant. I agree with it all. these welfare cases r unbelievable! the world is way too fucked up for any damage control now. after HS i was working at dead end jobs makin regular everyday wages to SURVIVE i decided to go to school for pharm tech im glad i found this site because you feel like i do already and im still in school. The schooling is completely bogus and MY course is somehow 14 months long but now that ive started i see they r just filling in the hours of free time with no work by giving us stupid pointless assignments. Also ive only had four classes and i was already complaining about the stupid shit they teach us that has nothing to do with BEING IN A PHARMACY!!! like injections. yes we might fill a needle but never will WE be giving the injection but they were teaching us all the injections but not just there names they want us to know the angle each one needs to be injected at and so on. THATS RIDICULOUS!!! and they give us the very basics on creating a label and for 3 weeks ive been doing daily fills and for the first time yesterday i had a nasal spray rather than pills so after completing the label my teacher comes to grade me and starts to explain with the spray i am sending a bottle so 1 thats what i put but than she begins to explain oh well u put 1 but how big is the box its 17 g so u must put 1 x 17g i was like oh wow well ive never had anything yet but a pill she was like oh thats fine now u know but than she says besides that mistake ur fine. BITCH!! u just now taught me that and ur saying it was a mistake???? how can i make a mistake on something i havent been taught. wouldnt they say when they were teaching us oh and for spray its like this and liquid like this but no they wait till we ask in class than i can hear them bitching cuz they have to always get up and walk around helping because they didnt fuckin teach right!!! Im paying way too much to go here because i had noone to help me choose a good college i thought this was but they hide their bullshit good!! I just learned yesterday only from a student that i could graduate tomorrow but i wont get my ceremony for atleast 6 months or more because they wait for more students to graduate. Not to mention i was thinking of being a pharmacist and i just learned as im writing this that the credits i get at this bullshit place are NON TRANSFERRABLE!!! FUCK MY LIFE!!!! i was gonna be a cop a correctional officer many things even the military but the economy is fucked! the country is fucked!!! the whole world is!! ive tried many paths and when u try to better urself they make it 20 times harder for u its ridiculous. because our country is forever stuck in debt they want to keep us there as well. the sad thing about these days is u cant get a good job bcuz when im done ill have a degree so there going to hire the community college cheap pharm techs not me. ive been on unemployment for over a year bcuz of constant layoffs everywhere and ive had to nothin but sit on my ass which i didnt anyways but now i started school they r making me do work searches all week. im like wtf!! i live an hour from my school i go from 12:30 to 5:15 so im leaving my house by 10:30 to drop my kids off with their aunt i visit for a minute than i get back around 6 6:30 at night and repeat they expect me to take care of 2 kids go to school and now find time to search for jobs an hour or more away and before i was bettering myself i could just sit around all day. ???? why im going to school now and they now my end date. also my hours that cannot be worked around by a job. BULLSHIT!

  2. Dr. Grumpy says:

Gotta agree with you. My first experience with this was doing an OB rotation in med school, in a ghetto area. 20 year old mom with 4 kids, pregnant with a 5th. All by different fathers. Kids destroyed the exam room, and Mom just sat and didn’t do shit.

Went to bed that night realizing how my money is being wasted, and that if this mom starved to death because her welfare checks got cut off I wouldn’t lose any sleep. That makes me sound like a mean bastard, but ya know, I work my ass off 80-90 hours a week (to support my family), and it makes me sick that some of my money is being given to these losers to support their lazy-ass lives.

And someone out there will call me a racist. Race has nothing to do with it. You don’t know what color I am. If you are an able-bodied individual you should at least be trying to work.

I recommend the blog waypastbroke.blogspot.com I don’t know who this guy is, but he’s trying to find work, doing whatever he can to get from day-to-day, while the world and this shitty economy keep crapping on him. And there are many out there like him.

So with people like him trying and willing to work for a living, I have NO sympathy for those who have decided it’s easier to just live off my tax dollars. And I agree with you entirely TAP.

    • Housewife says:

I think someone should have told this bitch that if she would have swallowed instead she would not be in this position!

  3. Lola says:

Recently, I had a woman on welfare come in with her prescription for an injection to help her conceive, since she was having difficulty. She was having difficulty conceiving, and apparently finding a job. I PAID FOR HER TO HAVE A CHILD THAT I WILL ALSO HAVE TO PAY FOR. I don’t even have my own children!

    Ridiculous.

    • Aulritto says:

This same sort of thing happened at a pharmacy I floated to once. A woman came in with a friend (who was her translator) and three children. I can’t be sure who the children all belonged to, but the woman was leaving a prescription for Clomid and prenatal vitamins with us. The kicker, of course, is the Medicaid card that she dropped off as well. When they left, the pharmacist and I just stared at each for a while. There… are… no… words…

  4. AnotherRxTech says:

We had a prescription two days ago for Clomid. It was free for the patient. Guess what type of fucking insurance she had?

This is a direct quote: “Food stamp insurance.”

Tell me how the hell Clomid is on Medicaid’s formulary?!

  5. Will S. says:

I’ve had this idea for a loong time. It just makes too much sense not to do. You want free money for being a moron? Then I want a chemical guarantee that you’re not going to pop out yet another monster to hold our society’s head. If I work my balls off for 80 hours a week at the hospital/pharmacy, I better damn well get to force some stipulations on the government gifts since half my salary is going towards it.

  6. King says:

Family planning should be taught as a mandatory subject starting in middle school in the places where welfare is so prevalent. Have ten kids if you like, – hell, my lower middle class grandparents in Nigeria had seven – but wait until you have the right finances and emotional support as you do so.

    • Alice Moore says:

King, the difference is that your grandparents had to provide for them. I also have a hunch is that they did not believe they were owed a thing and both parents were there during childhood.

  7. Emma says:

The only point I have to refute your belief is that the baby daddy getting that woman pregnant yet again bears equal weight as the most irresponsible person on the planet. Men can use birth control too.

    • True, but the ultimate burden of responsibility does (and always shall remain) with the female.

A contraceptive pill for men would be as useful as tits on a boar. I can see it now “of course im on the pill honey” as the random guy is never seen again.

      • Basiorana says:

Well, it’s not like the woman shouldn’t ALSO be on birth control, and they should use a condom, but a contraceptive pill for men would help men have control over their fertility if they wanted.

It’s not like the reverse doesn’t happen: “Of course I’m on the pill honey” and the guy is stuck paying child support for twenty years.

Still, if the guy didn’t use a condom, it is his fault. AS much as hers. The only thing that she then has as an option that he does not is abortion, but if he did not take responsibility and use a condom it is his responsibility and he deserves to eat beans for the rest of his life because they will force him to work and then garnish his wages.

        • Pharmer says:

I’ve always envisioned a joint venture between the NBA and NFL to perfect a reversable vasectomy! If they did that, they could then take this to the states to enforce on men who qualify for welfare. I always liked the idea of Depo for women on welfare. I remember a show on PBS where they would fly over horses in helicopters in Montana or somewhere and shoot them with Depo. Could they do that in the inner city too?

          • rph3664 says:

A few weeks ago, my local newspaper did some stories about budget cuts and staff layoffs, and in their message board, I not only proposed closing the alternative school, I said that I do not believe in involuntary sterilization, but if I did those kids would be the first to go under the knife.

The comment was removed, but I wasn’t banned. I was once banned from a board for 48 hours for saying that the deaths of two alternative school students was probably not a tragedy. Interestingly, lots of people agreed with me (and were also banned as well).

            • Anthony says:

First off, I go to a alternative school. And it’s not by decision that I went their or any stupid action that I commenced. Infact I know quite a few kids in alternative schooling in their for shitty reasons. Mine being that my father died. And I didn’t go to school for two weeks. My schoolboard lied* and told me that it would help me make up the credits. I’m eighteen I have three jobs go to school and have a house and a car. So in my opinon sir your opinions are just that… And you should really go and do some community service, in that alternative school. You would infact meet a whole hell of alot of down to earth normal people. Furthermore, I think that its a travisty that I have to work three jobs to take care of my little brother and put food on the table whereas you may have a woman with 5-7 kids effectivly raping my paychecks. I believe though and with wholeheartedness that whenever the Social Security system falls through their is going to be one fucking unbelievible wake up call. Because your going to have a majority of semi-retarded, piece of shit hood rats whom can niether read nor write who need food, shelter and money to buy drugs with. What is going to happen? Whenever the money is all gone? In my opinion, theirs going to be an increase of violence in predominately suburbian areas, more robberies and eventually a social uprising. Social Security takes care of the whole country at this point. Go ahead and try to argue that point. I would say over eighty percent of the country has some sort of financial assistance to carry them through this economice depression; and that moreso than not is correct. I wish thee a good day. But in the future try reading up on your material and getting to know what your talking about and not just waisting my air with you breathing your stereotypical nonsense.

      • Alice Moore says:

I concur as well. Enforcing responsibility with the males is an operational difficulty.

    • Chuck in MI says:

Yes, and men should use birth control too. Alas, many in this class we are referring to, do not.

  8. maha says:

Amen! I’m so tired of seeing the same frequent flier preggo moms despite extensive health education about every freaking imaginable option for birth control. I love their excuse – “i didn’t have time” or a simple “that shit is too complicated”. If I didn’t like getting paid every two weeks, I’d probably beat some of them with a bed pan until they figure out what’s what!

  9. Mabel says:

Please, please, please will you run for political office on the “depo-for-welfare” platform? You’d have my vote!

  10. ziege says:

I am so glad that someone else notices this problem. Thank goodness for people like yourself AP. Having just finished my OB rotation in medical school I was shocked how many post-partum welfare mothers with 3+ children weren’t interested in birth control. The fact that I go to school in El Paso and that a majority of patients I was delivering were illegal immigrants is another story….

    • Melaine says:

I live in a community in SW Kansas where currently being white is a minority. We have a extremely high, school truancy problem, and the highest teen pregnancy rate in the state of Kansas. We also have one of the largest gang problems in the state of Kansas. I can understand what you experienced there in El Paso.

      • ziege says:

I think you misunderstood. This isn’t a race issue. This is an issue of laziness, self-entitlement, and unwillingness to take responsibility for one’s own action. This kind of attitude can be found in all walks of life and races.

  11. l says:

    i TOTALLY agree.
i used to work at a bank, and on welfare check day or ssi day or whatever “free money” day was every month i would actually hear women say “i need to have another kid so i can get more money. i don’t think i get enough every month”. And they stood there in line with their nice clothes and hair nails done, etc.
    i call bull.

    • OhioCPhT says:

I cant agree enough!!! Everything being said is so true. The thing that kills me the most is when a welfare mom comes threw drive threw to get her 5 kids’ 12 rxs’ and is driving a 2009 escalade, while im working my ass off full time struggling, and driving a piece of shit…. yea the system really works. what does it tell you? Quit your job, have lots of babies, live for free, eat for free, drive a brand new car, and carry a brand new coach bag… sounds like the perfect life right. YEAH RIGHT!

  12. Francesca says:

Oh my goodness!! This is exactly how I feel too! I tell other people about this, and they try to turn the other way. We’re not being mean, it’s the truth! And you know what else, I was a welfare child growing up, and now I’m working towards my PharmD. there are sooooo many people who abuse the program. It’s disgusting.

  13. warxcpht says:

I could not agree with u more!! this should be forced birth control. or two child limit. that’s a genius idea!!!

  14. Used to be angry pharmacist says:

Dude – getting knocked up again is how you keep the checks coming. More kids = bigger check. Didn’t you know?

  15. Mallory says:

    Hear hear.

@Angry – have you visited Violent Acres – you might like her rage and sarcasm too. I do. Try her post on the subject here: http://www.violentacres.com/archives/185/it-is-your-job-to-financially-provide-for-your-children.

I’m of the more draconian opinion that we should all be fitted with IUDs at puberty, and before any couple can concieve, both parents should have to complete a basic parenting skills class, including a budgeting section, and demonstrate sufficient financial security to support a child. (Mothers intending to be single moms should also have to meet this requirement, sans partner).Any parent with a history of domestic abuse/child abuse or neglect should have to complete an advanced parenting class, produce a parenting plan, and be signed off by a psychologist to say that they have completed sufficient therapy/anger management programs (or whatever) to give them a shot at not repeating the abuse.

No one should be completely denied the chance to reproduce, but society should make sure everyone is doing so responsibly, and with fore-thought. We licence people to drive, and require credentials/diplomas/training etc and references to be employed for most skilled jobs. Parenting is more difficult, and more important. Think about what you require of daycare staff – you’d like to know that they didn’t have a history of child abuse, that they had completed a training course, or recieved on the job training, and that they had character references. Why should we requre less of a parent?

    • hell's bells says:

Fitted with an IUD as a minor? Sounds like rape to me. I’m gay. I was gay then, gay now, and have never had intercourse with a man (and never will). Tell me again why I should be forced to have an IUD shoved up in my body?

      • Kinzi says:

Wow, ok. I believe in people being responsible and what not, but that is a little extreme…that is just step one in taking away all of our freedoms. I agree that people should be financially responsible, and mentally capable, but as it is most people don’t plan on getting pregnant, shit happens, and most people become capable parents. And yah, parents fuck up too, but you just have to learn as you go along. These classes you speak of are not going to REALLY ready you. I feel like your idea would start making our world like the world in the book “The Giver”. If you haven’t read it, read it. You will know what I mean.

        • Alice Moore says:

It could devolve into Huxley’s Brave New World as well. Whether someone is ready to parent cannot be quantified.

  16. chris says:

The annoying thing with these people is that they are not lazy or stupid, they know exactly what they are doing to be career welfare parents. And if you walk through town, they are clearly not lazy, the streets are full of them, and they can quite easily rush into to shops to keep up their Kate Moss (wipes a little powder off nose) clothing tastes. mmmmm, boob tube and hotpant with all that pregnant stuffed into them.

  17. Chuck in MI says:

How about, if you want welfare, you should get sterilized? And if you father a child whose mom is on welfare, you get mandatory sterilization? What about offering free sterilization for men? It’s quick and easy and not too painful.

    • Kev says:

Unfortunately, this would fall under the category of denying parenthood as this is not really reversible (although it can be) like bc is…but it should be offered should the guy want it!

  18. r0fl says:

I completely and whole-heartedly agree. Clomid should not be on any MediCAID formularies – and I’ll go one step further if you don’t mind.

Be it monthly, bi-monthly or randomly (but definately a few times yearly) if you’re receiving government aid – you better be able to pass a drug test. Feel like going on the State’s tit? Stop playing puff-puff pass. I don’t care. And I don’t want to get into the debate and marijuana legalization – I say legalize it and tax the shit out of it if you want to. If you fail – cut off for a year. Or something.

    • LDubb says:

I could not agree with you more! If I have to pass a drug test to get a job so I can support these people, they had better be able to pass a drug test in order to receive assistance from the gov’t! Every month–you want your check, you pee in a cup!

    • Cats not kids says:

Why ISN’T drug testing mandatory? Geez, it seems like a no-brainer. A girl I went to high school with, who came from a solidly middle-class family, has gone on to spawn 4 kids by 2 men, has been on “relief” for close to 20 years (because of the spawn) yet always has money to go to Grateful Dead and other concerts. She lives in a hovel, but has professionally done hair and nails. It makes me SICK! And if she were drug tested, she’d fail every time.

  19. Anna says:

This was a beautiful rant, and made my day.

It’s so very nice to see someone actually get that it’s ok to hate welfare abuses without thinking we need to completely eliminate all social programs.

  20. Mrgtjn says:

You’re anecdotes are entertaining and an accurate representation of the consequences of this behavior (everyone’s; see below).

However, your analysis is 100% faulty. The Big Welfare Mother is not stupid (perhaps lazy), au contraire, she’s the rational actor in this economic experiment. You are the fool, along with everyone else who conflates birth control, multiple partners, spinning rims etc with welfare checks. Just as the fool who blames the raccoon for rooting through the trash bin not properly secured.

The root and only cause for the behavior recorded on this blog is everyone who enables it, i.e. those of you who continually reward liberal politicians by re-electing them to office. There’s no argument that serial welfare moms, their sperm donors and illegals birthing anchor babies are pure parasites, but rational actors nonetheless.

The real idiots whine indignantly about the behavior, and then proceed to re-enable with yet another vote for socialist libtards (special nod to clowns in current presidential administration). THIS is the cycle of irresponsibility which must be broken.

    • davek says:

You are exactly right. Stop voting in these idiot liberals who play into the hands of these abusers. The problem with these welfare tramps is that there are TONS of them. Unfortunately, their votes count just like everyone elses. So political candidates have to suck their tits or they won’t get elected. The only way to stop this insanity is to stop allowing it to happen. Hell, who doesn’t want free money?? The morals and ethics in in this country has dropped to zero. Stop allowing these deadbeats to bleed us dry. And don’t give me shit about saying it’s the “compassionate” thing to do. There is nothing compassionate about forcing me to pay for other people’s insurance. That’s called bullying.

      • kurt says:

The welfare people seldom vote, too lazy. It is the state and federal welfare dept workers who vote to perptuate the system, encouraging these “sheep” to have more children, get more benefits and get further into the public trough. It is called job security.

    • BookwormTech says:

While I definitely agree that liberal politicians are too keen to create and enable government programs that leech off of hardworking citizens, I don’t think I’m yet convinced that politicians of any persuasion are going to make things better. Yes, liberal politicians are going to cater to social programs (that literally hemorrhage money), but the conservative politicians are the ones who are going to fight tooth and nail against sex education and birth control if it goes against their all-abstinence-all-the-time code of morals. Our government isn’t going to do anything because it is currently so inundated with corrupt men and women who are benefiting from the systems that make all of us cringe under the weight of injustice. What we need is education and accountability, but such an action will cut into too many deep pockets.

The only way we will have a chance to change things politically is if EVERYONE is proactive enough to care about national, state and local elections and vote based on individual merits instead of under the banner of a particular party. And by being proactive, I do mean actively seeking information about elections and candidates outside of mainstream media outlets. We need politicians who care more about our country than their re-elections. Reforming programs like welfare will be a messy business but the rewards will far outcry the grunts of disapproval.

Obviously, I am all on board for accountability in the welfare system. I too am sick and tired of all of the welfare recipients who abuse the system and yell at me when they have to actually pay for a prescription for one of their four children from different baby daddies. I have no patience for that when I see hard working people come into the pharmacy and have to pay upwards of $200 a month for necessary medication even with their insurance plans. It’s completely unfair.

I say yes to mandatory birth control for women on welfare and yes to drug testing! If the government is giving you a check for the purpose of getting back on your feet, then they have every right to know if that money is being squandered. I also agree with the comment someone here made about having to be licensed to drive and work. I’ve actually considered what it would be like to have to have a license to reproduce. Too bad procreation isn’t something easily regulated…

I also have to give a big Kudos for those here who have used the system as it was intended. My mom was a welfare child but instead of following in her mother’s footsteps and leeching off of the system (which the woman continued to do until her death a few months ago), my mom got married before she had her children (only two children – myself and my brother) and continues to work hard every day of her life to support our family (as does my father) without any government assistance whatsoever. Welfare can either help or corrupt, but as it is now, it corrupts more often than the former.

    • OUT FOR LIFE says:

This is why democracies are doomed to fail, as soon as people realize they can vote themselves money from the government coffers, they do. It leads to fiscal irresponsibility by the government and excessive taxation a la the cureent administration which has a budget larger than all the former administrations combined. That makes sense given we’re borrowing cash from China and have a 10 trillion defecit let’s just spend more. Once the fiscal irresponsibility takes control the government collapses and it is followed by a dictatorship that doesn’t give a crap about wellfare moms and babies daddies and if they whine too much they get put in front of the guns. Thus, fiscal responsibility and control are restored.

In order to avoid this we need politicians who don’t give a crap about trying to make everyone happy, and just call it like it is: it is unlawful for a government to redistribute wealth, just because you aren’t responsible. America was founded on the guarantee of opportunity not of outcome.

    • cas says:

Ohhhhh….that’s right, the current administration is responsible for this mess that has been building for years and years. Blame the black guy who is trying to fix things…that makes a lot of sense. The government has been fucking things up little by little for a long time, and now we can finally see how bad things have gotten. I work for the government, and in my dept., there is so little accountability for doing your job right. Once you get a government job, you can coast. You can bust your ass like I do because I love helping people, but I’m young, and new, and I’m starting to get tired of it too. What do you do? In my dept, at least, we need to be able to fire people b/c they are incompetent. period. If every government branch runs like mine, it’s no surprise how things got this way…coasting along…don’t rock the boat, etc.

      • OUT FOR LIFE says:

Trying to fix things? Fix what? I certainly agree that the mess started before him, but I can tell you, with regard to social programs and entitlements, he is only going to make things worse. He will bolster wellfare not reform it. Like I said: YOU CAN’T SPEND YOUR WAY OUT OF DEBT. Obviously, this simple reality has escaped him.

    • t$ says:

      AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  21. RxDawg says:

I totaly freaking hear ya. I love these type rants. They truly bring out the best in ya AP. I mean this makes so much sense why even vote on it? Oh yeh, our government isn’t really out for our best interest. Me thinks that the more people they have relying on them, then the more power (and votes) they have. Which is another blog topic all together..

  22. David M. says:

I completely agree! I had this patient a few weeks ago who was on Nuva Ring and for some stupid ass ding dong reason she took it after two weeks and was fighting with us even after brought out a calender and showed her and she goes, well if I get pregnant, I am suing you and Medicaid. And my manager was there, and said don’t have sex, use other means, and don’t take out the Nuva Ring EARLY (of course she still think she did nothing wrong!).

She also doesn’t have a job, another kid, and lives with her in laws since hubby ran away.

  23. 2BAPharmD says:

    Hey TAP…

I completely agree with you, and think that you should run the world.

Emma was trying to say that men can be responsible too (Wearing a condom) and I don’t think she was alluding to the male BC pill (As the scenario you brought up is quite plausible – Sure honey, I’m taking my pill). Besides, you know we’d forget about that…

I do not agree that increased education will help. The only thing that will help is removing the incentive to keep reproducing. It was once that reproduction was a cherished, valued thing… Now it’s but another commodity for us. The New Jersey limit of 2 children per welfare recipient is a step in the right direction, and we need some of that action on a FEDERAL level instead of simply statutory.

A mandatory Depo-Provera shot will be inexpensive and easy to administer. Lord knows these welfare queens have ample buttcheek where the physician can place the shot…

Right on TAP. Can we get a flyer to distribute? Arrange a congress call? A mass letter to senators? SOMETHING? We need to take action, it starts with The Anger Pharmers! (US!)

  24. Eric says:

the worst part is working at a pharmacy with a drive-thru, and seeing these “medicaid moms” driving up in their escalades and hummer 2′s and big ass SUV’s, picking up eight, nine, ten prescriptions per child (and don’t forget HER xanax and zoloft, we wouldn’t want her to get too upset at the kids) and it amazes me every time that not ONE prescription for birth control ever gets filled for any of them!!!! I worked with one pharmacist who would willingly fill medicaid customers’ prescriptions for cash, but then would call medicaid and report them. one lady came in fuming that she got a call from the state asking for an explanation. i would love to go to court just to watch that one!

  25. the misunderstood profession says:

A-effing-men. Yep, and they’re always the ones with the cart full of groceries, Louis Vuitton purse, latest top-of-the-line cell phone, designer clothes, and manicured nails who won’t buy the $3.00 OTC APAP for their child’s fever because it’s not free. That and the Medicaid family plan high school age girls who actually get the complimentary OC’s, condoms, and foam who are pregnant, have kid in-tow, or both.

  26. A Michel says:

Totally agree, but it’s Depo-Provera and not Depot-Provera. Love you!

  27. sumotoad says:

True story: when I was in Utah some half-assed reforms were instituted, including a 5 year limit on benefits unless you had another kid. So help me God, a medicaid patient had her tubal ligation reversed, at a cost of about ten grand, so she could remain on welfare. How am I supposed to explain to my hard-working techs, making less than $20 an hour, that working is better than welfare? I feel so dirty sometimes… and I hate every one of these leeches so much it makes me shake. TAP, dude, you are on the money, but dang it I was gonna try to quit drinking this week….

  28. melissa says:

i love how they come thru the drivethru at our pharmacy in their $30k car, on their $400 cell phone with 4 kids in the backseat smoking their $8 pack of smokes then say…Oh I don’t have $1 to pay my copay are you serious? I’m supposed to get ALL my medication for free… and I’m like uh… No sorry honey but you have copays.. “What’s a copay?”

    dammit
    i could go on forever

  29. Just the other day, I read an article in the paper about how WA state was trying to figure out how to cut 40K people off the “basic health” plan (aka welfare, but you have to pay a teeny premium each month) to meet budget cuts. My FIRST thought was to call the state and tell them to check what kind of cars these people have registered in their names. I’m soooooo tired of seeing the welfare moms roll through the drive through in their fancy cars!

  30. TechJess says:

There ia s lady who comes to my pharmacy whose husband works with my husband, and they are on Medicaid. The company that my husband works for has the best private insurance I have ever seen, and they refuse to ues it. The problem that I have is that I know he makes upwards of at least $80k a year, since my hubs makes $60k and has only been with the company for 5 years. I also know that she drives a brand new Tahoe and lives in a gorgeous home worth about $250k (keep in mind this is a lot of money for the area that we live in). I mean seriously, they have one teenage son. How in the hell do they even qualify for Medicaid?

    • TJ, find out if your state has a fraud hotline! You can report all of this anonymously…

    • Drug Pharmer says:

I think I’m gonna be sick…I say report them to Medicaid…that is wrong on so many levels.

    • Lucy says:

They are probably welfare leeches… but maybe MAYBE…. they are in a situation like my cousin. He’s an engineer, making around 80K. He has kidney failure (genetic reasons…he’s always been a health nut)and had to have a transplant. The costs associated with his (failed) transplant went far above his company’s health plan. (He works for a major oil company) Because of this, he qualified for medicare.

    • Jose says:

They live together, but most likely aren’t married. Their son was born in sin.

  31. Another mad rph says:

Totally agree. Depo shots for all of them. I am so sick and tired of looking at the huge chunks of my paycheck taxes take and then having to take care of these morons. There are plenty of people who honestly deserve Medicaid. My deceased grandfather who worked 80-90 hours a week his entire life until he had a paralyzing stroke certainly deserved a break on his health care. These leaches don’t deserve a dime. We are literally hurdling towards the movie premises of idiocity. The morons on the government tit have 10 kids a piece while the doctor who marries a lawyer has 0-2 kids. What is our gene pool going to look like if this keeps up?

  32. M. Augustine says:

Don’t think that politics is the only ‘answer’ though it seems that results of or lack thereof from political action which provide funding for the welfaremom-gate incentive to spend just more of tax dollars…(especially don’t think the decisions result from current administration, hmmm 100 days..don’t think so.)

As a child in a very large family…monthly take-home paycheck sometimes left us with the choice of sliced air sandwiches and effervescent water right out of the tap. My parents would probably have had us kids making handbrooms from grass before requesting government assistance, though I suspect they would’ve picked up extra jobs first outside the home first before resorting to child labor. My dad considered his job to provide financially for the family and my mother considered her job to ensure order and consistency in the home.

I remember as an intern at Osco, my first processing of a welfare payment for a woman with metallic pink fingernails painted with little flowers dabbed on with what must’ve been a special tiny brush. I probably had many conflicting thoughts but I recall wondering what exactly she kind of job she had that she could wear nails like that yet have to be on the public dole, and and that wearing nails like that did not allow for working jobs that required much to do with one’s hands (though I since have met a physician who had similarly long nails who must occasionally perform rectal exams in her line of work.)

It was some years later, I learned to my astonishment, in certain psychologically dysfunctional social units (even involving incest, child abuse, and neglect) females might perpetuate a cycle of ‘welfare’ dependency. Certainly someone that studies this kind of sociological phenomenon might choose to find correlation between current state of affairs (welfare programs), commonly observed society behaviors (as touted by our TV personalities and politicians e.g. Mr. Clinton et al), and limits of financial tolerance. If there were limits to access that allowed no financial support, what or how would be the eventual outcome of dependency on public funding of ‘welfare moms’? For example, if the money was provided with accountability requirements to the children (that had no choice in the matter), would this be an incentive for working moms with state daycare? The business of providing clomiphene with inadequate care resources is simply NOT right.

  33. Couldn’t have said anything better myself! I had this one lady (and I use the term “lady” loosely) who came in with 4 kids IN the grocery cart. I said “looks like you got the babysitting duty today”. I hadn’t seen her before. “nope, theyre all mine” she said as she dropped off her vicodin prescription…and handed me a welfare card.

Oh, did I mention she was PREGNANT again!?!?!

  34. jadedmed says:

Not sure about the specifics of it, but when I was on my OB rotation in med school, I learned that Medicaid (at least the FL version of it) paid the whole tab for tubal ligations after a delivery. Gave me the warm fuzzies. Of course, I would have felt a lot better if it were compulsory. Now, mandating Depo to get your checks, I wouldn’t mind welfare spending my money on that.

  35. Managed to not get pregnant says:

My only concern is that you insult the Special Needs population when you refer to these Welfare Whores as ‘retarded’.

    Otherwise, spot-on, my friend.

    • Hardwyre says:

Are you fucking kidding me? Your “concern”? “Special Needs ‘population’”? Jumped Jesus on a Po-go stick, you are a wreath of hypocrisy aren’t you… crying about the retards then in the same breath dropping your self-righteousness and just slapping out the whole “Welfare Whores” detail. Nice dipshit. Go cry somewhere else.

  36. Richard says:

If only this would fit on a t-shirt or a bumper sticker!! Send this shit to everyone in Congress, the U.S. Senate, the President, and anyone else who will listen!! This law makes 100% perfect sense. Rock on TAP!

  37. TeknoTX says:

We have this conversation every week, I think. It makes me mad to think about those welfare folks rolling up to the drive-thru in a big SUV, god-awfully gaudy fingernails, latest phone to their head, dripping in (possibly) fake designer bags and sunglasses, Medicaid cards in hand to get all four kids their Adderall, and her Xanax, and then complaining because the cough syrup isn’t covered, so why does she have to pay the twenty bucks to stop her kid from coughing up a lung? That one was just today – poor kid in the back seat coughing so hard it made MY lungs hurt, and Mommy Dearest wouldn’t pay for the syrup. I try hard to not want to reach through the window and pull a Homer Simpson, but it’s not always easy.

Especially when I’m working my ass off for less than ten bucks an hour, studying in nearly every spare waking moment I have, and self-medicating because I don’t have my own health insurance and can’t afford either the doctor’s visit, or the emergency room bill for strep (and have to depend on the kindness of a friend to get an antibiotic.)

It’s definitely enough to make you want to move to the shed out in the middle of nowhere and just disappear.

  38. OHpharmer says:

Amen Brother! If president obama asks me how he can fix the healthcare system, I’ll tell him to come work in a pharmacy one day or go sit the an emergency room at a hospital and see what’s wrong. What’s wrong is society and their lack of responsibility and priorities. I am sick and tired like all of you. We work hard, do what is right, yet only to be pissed on at the end of the day. I agree with all of you. Why in the hell should I have to pay for someone’s mistake. I am all for welfare in helping the truly disabled people who are not able to care for themselves. That’s where I want my money to go to so they get proper care. I am sick of my tax money going to irresponsible whores who can’t keep their fucking legs closed. Did you not pay attention in health class to how babies are made that when the pee-pee enters the vajayjay, a baby can be made? Or better yet, practice self control. I COMPLETELY AGREE that you must be drug tested, undergo mandatory birth control, have tubes tied after so many, or sterilization. Because we don’t need stupid reproducing more stupids. So what’s wrong with the healthcare system…? OVER POPULATION OF WELFARE IDIOTS WHO WASTE TAX PAYER DOLLARS. Phew….done!

  39. OHpharmer says:

NO…the special needs population to me is not retarded…I do NOT like when the truly mentally disabled are called “retarded”. They may be slow, but they can’t help it. They are born that way. The Welfare Whores are retarded b/c they are not born slow but they can’t think for themselves…all they think about is penis and how they can get more of it instead of improving their life or the life of their child….and therefore continue the cycle. The welfare whores have NO rationalization. Period.

  40. ri tech says:

Couldn’t have said it better!!! We work our asses off every day to get support ourselves and if need be, our families. However, we also have to pay for their whorish actions?! Just because they can’t keep their legs closed?! I would rather have my tax dollars go to something useful, like education! Or maybe they could use those welfare checks to pay for a babysitter so they can go to a job interview! Rather than for their Audi’s and Navigator’s! If I work my ass off to support myself, her and her 14 children, then I should have the nice car and prescription coverage, not her!

  41. CPhT HH says:

    Medicaid. (blood begins to boil)

I was at the pharmacy and a girl who is one year older than I am and has been on Medicaid for years and years called and was complaining about the new MD at the clinic where she gets her pain meds. He told her that he wasn’t refilling her pain meds and she needed to get a job. She was so pissed at this MD and was getting up towards a full-steam-ahead rant when I interrupted her and said, “DO you realize you are speaking to someone who is AT WORK RIGHT NOW?” She called me a fucking bitch and hung up the phone.

I also had another couple on Medicaid, driving a new Expedition, that I had to get not one, but TWO VACATION OVERRIDES for in one year. The first one was 2 weeks in Colorado. The second was 2 weeks in Bermuda. I’ve never hated anyone more in my life.

  42. Bodhi says:

TAP may I add to your rant? Or better, open my own??? Shh…I have an interesting job. I decide whether people are disabled and therefore eligible for SSI payments (and SSDI but thats for people who actually paid into the system).

These folks are the ones who are denied BECAUSE: NO you dont get money because your two year old is ‘hiper’. NO You dont get money because you have a back pain and cant speak ENGLISH (you can, cuz I tricked you after a round of ‘spanglish’ – you speak English just fine…And NO you dont get SSI when you ‘hear voices that call your name’ but have no other RX except Hydroco (which when mixed with other certain drugs would make anyone happily ‘hear voices calling their name’

And just for the record: DONT TELL YOUR FRIENDS AND RELATIVES TO c’MOn down to the US for SSI because I KNOW your not disabled, and I WILL prove it.

So when folks rant about medicaid, welfare moms etc…and they hear that most ‘people get denied’ for Social security (if you listen to the deep intonations of the disability lawyer commercials planted in between soaps and Maury…) THOSE PEOPLE ARE DENIED BECAUSE PEOPLE LIKE ME SNIFF THEM OUT!!!! and you should thank us!!

Dont have kids when you are on welfare, medicaid, saga, ssi, rental asisstance, section 8 or whatever..

And YES YES YES To mandatory drug testing for ANYONE on state assistance!!!!!

    • Jackie says:

Bodhi, we need to hire more people to do the job you do. There are so many welfare frauding bitches out there – they are like an infestation of rats. They keep proliferating at a rate the system can’t possibly keep up with. At the pharmacy where I used to work, there was a disgusting little welfare momma who would come up to the drive thru in a new Mercedes, and the license plate said “pydcash”. Fucking whore.

      • Bodhi says:

Here Here Jackie!!! Here’s a lil more from the disability corner of the rant:

applicant calls- “Allo, do you aspeak aspanish? oh, ok. I call you about my disability? Are you my worker? I wanna know how long it takes before I get my check? I cannot move, my back be hurtin (ooh ahh, ouch). aye dia mio….

Medical record from Free Clinic comes in : CC back pain, ED (LOL Karma’s a b*tch), no history of surgery, no scans or xrays. No injury or trauma. Also c/o inability to maintain erection PMH unavailble as pt was incarcerated out of the country. PE is completely normal except for painful ROM of the low back. Dx- low back strain, erectile dysfunction. Plan: conservative measures; NSAIDs, flexeril, Viagra, Flector patch f/u 1 month.

What does this mean to you and I, the Tom and Tina Taxpayers??? Well quite simply this: we paid for FREE CLINIC through medicaid or whatever social insurance this guy gets when he gets out of prison or comes into a state jobless. AT LEAST $150 plus rx (TAP, how much is FLECTOR PATCHES these days??) I’d day another couple hundred??? so now we’re at about $350.

So now I have to send him for xrays because this guy has none. THIS costs at least another $100-$200. Xrays come back absolutely clean. Now we’re up to $450-$550 for a backache….

Here’s the fun part…here we go….weeeeee….I get a call from the patients’ frantic wife/common law wife/aunt/girlfriend/babymama/neice/landlady with benefits or someone with a vested interest in getting this leach some money…”hello?? Im calling about so-and-so…he’s really upset, his back and all…he can’t move and hes (GET READY) depressed now…and he was in special ed…he’s not very smart and he hears voices….” I hang up and put my head on my desk.

No psych records. No psych history. Attended school out of the country. Now he’s LEARNING IMPAIRED AND PSYCHOTIC???? how smaarrrtttt of you!

Off to another exam- this one’s a doozy- at least $300-$400 taxpayer money to prove you are NOT retarded and those voices will go away if you STOP DRINKING AS SOON AS YOU WAKE UP!!!

Cost for disability evaluation and medicaid (taxpayer) –$750-$900….
Denying SSI for this guy- priceless……

You don’t get money for having a hyper 2-year-old? What color is the sky in your world? This happens ALL THE TIME and is why many people who have been declared permanently and totally disabled are being re-evaluated for SSI and other benefits.

That, and the people whose primary diagnosis is morbid obesity or substance abuse.

  43. jonah says:

If only there was a way to test implant high risk women (and their male partners if present) with gerbils, right into the womb. They then give birth, if the gerbil is fat, healthy, and happy in six months then fuck it, let ‘em breed. But if you are:
    1) Morbidly obese single girl under 30 who frequently is the yearly “fat chicks need love too” lay in the men’s crapper at your favorite watering hole
    2)Dodn’t have a job
3)Consider being raised on welfare job training
4)Openly state to a qualified state appointed pre-screenr (social worker) that you think “$400 bucks a month for a kid is a prety awesome deal”
%)Generally only reguarly hump dudes named “Todd” who STILL think Camaro’s are bitchin’, well then , baby doll: Let’s just see how that little furry guy turns out.

If he dies, your uterus is mine. If the gerb lives, and he doesn’t wind up in your Mom’s new boyfriend’s ass- well I’m willing to bet that you might find that’s all you really need anyway.

  44. The welfare system should be completely revamped and honest common sense should be instituted.

Since this deals with a government program, this will never happen.

    1) Six month moratorium on ALL welfare programs. Use that time to search for a a real, honest-to-goodness American job. You won’t just earn cash, but a chance to take pride in something other than feeding off the American teet.

    or…

    2) Require every penny to be repaid in a reasonable amount of time. When our lazy, girthier citizens ralize there isn’t a free ride, they’ll be forced to find other means to sustain themselves.

This is exaactly the reason California is in such dire financial straits. And the government has the balls to ask for MORE with this insane propositions we voted against on Tuesday.

    • 2BAPharmD says:

      Hey Stacy without an E,

For option 2, what is the penalty for someone who is in default of paying the government back after the grace period is up? You can’t exactly send them to collections because their credit is either non-existant or trash anyway. Compulsory military service? As a veteran of both OIF and OEF in the Army (hooah) I say NO to that.

And California is in financial dire straits for many reasons, including excessive social program cost but also thanks to an irresponsible conservative governator who couldn’t see the forest for the trees. Some days, it feels like Grey Davis never left.

I agree, though, that something has to be done. But we all know nothing ever will.

      • Basiorana says:

Not military service, but civil service. I don’t want them armed with a gun but why not send them to clean up New Orleans, or set them scrubbing graffiti off overpasses, or planting trees or something? Force them to work. They don’t want to work, send them to a contracted debtor’s prison where they work in a factory job and 100% of their wages after their cot, slop, and GPS anklet goes straight to collections.

        • Seriously? says:

Okay, why don’t you read the US constitution. LOL. It’s called slavery. Yeah good idea moron, let’s bring back debtor prisons and slavery, why don’t we start torturing people until they pay too. Hell, let’s go all out and cut peoples hands off for stealing food. Let’s cut out peoples tongues for slander. Ooh, this one sounds right up your alley, let’s poke a needle in the moles of suspected witches and then execute them if they don’t bleed or throw them in lakes to see if they drown. Seriously, get some help.

  45. GoingDental says:

I have been reading your blog religiously for over two years and I must say this is your best entry ever. Standing ovation to you, my friend. Marry me.

  46. RhodeIslandTech says:

Thank you TAP. I see way too much of this every day. The state gives them a free ticket handed to them on a big fucking silver platter. I will admit, I am a product of this type of mother. Now, at age 19, I work my ass off at the pharmacy and another job to pay my rent in my own apartment, paying my bills and be a productive member of society. These people have free insurance, however, and I cannot get any insurance, because I do not get enough hours to qualify for the company I work for’s plan. And because I’m not a parent and don’t have 10,000 children running around tearing up shelves, I don’t qualify for any assistance. Great country we live in, isn’t it? and for the record, I completely support mandated Depo.

  47. Angry Tech says:

You know DAMN WELL the baby Christ condemns contraceptives! You should be sent into the firey pits of flaming hell for your murder-talk. God loves these women and their holy mission to create more of His children! Hallelujah !

    • Chris says:

Wow…you just failed harder than this guy.

      http://www.failpix.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/fail_kick.jpg

You seriously think God is okay with these women having 8 billion kids that they cannot support, that are in pitiful, often neglectful homes, and in many situations in abusive environments as well? Seriously?

You’re obviously a member of one of the scammy, cult-ish Christian denominations that teach whatever they want regardless of what the Bible says, since the Bible talks about sloth and laziness over and over again:

Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth.
      Proverbs 10:3-5

The lazy man does not roast his game, but the diligent man prizes his possessions.
      Proverbs 12:26-28

“His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed?
      Matthew 25:25-27

(throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’)

We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.
      Hebrews 6:11-13

Clearly, even Christ Himself associates laziness with wickedness. So, these mothers who want nothing to do with getting a job or working and would rather live off other people’s tax money and have as many babies as they want are clearly associating themselves with wickedness.

      Checkmate.

      • hell's bells says:

Worse, there are “quiverful” mothers out there right now, on welfare and especially Medicaid specifically so they can have piles of children (a full quiver) that they can’t hope to pay for. 10′s of thousands (including birth) of government expense. I know of some great cases where the dad was on disability too–and of course the mother doesn’t work, since that isn’t “godly”. Add the homeschooling & culty nuttiness on top of that, you not only have kids who are a burden to society now, there’s a good chance quite a few of them will be a burden to society for a good long time.

    • SuperCPHT says:

You are one sick puppy!!!!!!! so because these are “gods children” that gives these medicaid whores the right to keep on reproducing….you make me sick…oh and “holy mission” my ass!!!! more like “whory mission” these bitches know damn well that the more kids you have , then more food stamps, medicaid, daycare assis, and housing they get…Oh and guess whos paying for it ME THE WORKING TAXPAYER!!!!!!!! oh and about BC, im sorry but not all religions condemn these options………

    • Mark says:

Why was Jesus born in a manger? Since he wasn’t Joseph’s son, the carpenter’s union insurance wouldn’t cover Him.

  48. Shalom (R.Ph.) says:

New York State Medicaid does not give vacation overrides.

I had someone come in two weeks early for his meds; told him he’s not getting them. He said, “But I’m going to the Dominican Republic for two weeks!” My response to him (which probably got me reported to the head office, but fsck it) was “Well, the State of New York’s attitude is, if you can afford to go to the Dominican Republic, you can afford to pay cash for your medications.”

I generally tell them that they should just consider the cost of the meds as a part of the cost of their vacation. (And it’s not just medicaid. I had one patient who was going to the West Coast on business and needed an early refill. It wasn’t a narc (I don’t fill those early regardless of how you pay for it) but his insurance wouldn’t grant the override. I told him, “You’re travelling on business, right? So submit it to your company for reimbursement as a travel expense. It’s their fault you have to pay cash, isn’t it?” He said, “You know, that never occurred to me, I’ll do that.” Paid cash and left happy.)

New York State does not pay for fertility treatments either; I’m surprised that other states do. In fact, birth controls are one of the few classes of drugs that have zero copay. (Not that they ever pay it, but still.)

What bugs me the most is the calls I get for OTCs, where the girl at the office gives me the patient name and d/o/b, and says “Tylenol suspension. Next patient is…” I tell her “Hold on, you haven’t finished with that rx yet. What’s the directions for use? “Uhh, as directed.” “Not good enough, there aren’t any labeled directions for that age group.” “Uh, lemme go ask the doctor.” She comes back with the directions, again tries to go on, and I have to stop her again and get a quantity to dispense (sometimes she says “I just told you, 3/4 teaspoon…” Me: “No, how much *total*?” “Uh, lemme go ask…”) It’s like they think I’m a supermarket — all they have to do is give me the name of an OTC med, no further info, and I just throw the bottle at them and bill Medicaid for it. Ain’t like that, girl, if you’re calling in a prescription it’s got certain requirements, it gets a label and everything. The worst is when she finishes by saying, “Oh, if it’s not covered they don’t want it.” This is a new thing to me, that how much a patient needs a medication depends on whether Medicaid will pay for it.

    • the other end of the phone says:

Unfortunately, I hate to burst your bubble, but New York State DOES allow vacation overrides for Medicaid recipients. As the person you call when Medicaid claims deny, I die a little inside every time I have to give out the override instructions to a pharmacy so the recipient can take a 3 month vacation to Europe. And ALSO; if you’ve lost your $3k+ HIV meds for the 4th time this year, I’d much rather punch you in the face than help you get an early refill again….maybe you’d stop being irresponsible and ‘leaving it on the bus’ when YOU actually had to pay for those ridiculously expensive medications that keep you ALIVE.

And you think it would be common sense that MEDICAID doesn’t cover fertility stimulating drugs, but I’m amazed by the number of pharmacists and techs I explain this to (ie, MEDICAID doesn’t want to HELP women get PREGNANT) who then reply, “Well, why not?” It is at that point I bash my head on the desk and give up on the world.

  49. handyr says:

You have hit the nail on the head regarding welfare mothers, but that is only one of the outrages I deal with. In Michigan you use to never see an able-bodied man on assistance. Now, half the Vicodin rxs are brought in by young to middle-aged men sporting a MIhealth (medicaid) card. OK, $5.00 worth of pills no big sweat but the bogus ER visit or god-forbid bogus hospital admission costs taxpayers a fortune.

I could go on but I have Vicodin to count.

    • rph3664 says:

Yes, I’m paying my way through school the old fashion way. I’d like to think I’m helping out some mom or dad who started in my shoes. in my state there actually IS a limit on welfare and children. If you have antoher child while on welfare, they will not pay for the subsequent children or your pregnancy. No extra money or WIC for extra babies either.

And there is supposed to be a 2year limit on receiving benefits (unless disabled), but I think this is a crock or not enforced because I know there are carreer people.

  54. FutureDoc says:

I am unfortunately a product of this behavior. Fortunately, however, my sisters found it disgusting and got myself and my younger sibling out.
I don’t understand the entitlement that is expressed here. I vividly remember this scenario: My sister and I were on Medicaid when she developed seizure disorder. Our guardian (oldest sister and at the time 2nd yr med student) and I were listening as the Intern ran over medication options for my 15 y/o sister. She seemed to be having a stream of conscious conversation with herself that included Dilantin, Lamictal, Depakote, etc. Somewhere along the line, the Intern decided against Dilantin (I think it’s a relatively cheap medicine) because of possible risks to a fetus and recommended Lamictal (more expensive). Guardian lit into my sis, who profusely denied having sex. The poor Intern returned with an rx for the dilantin. I guess I don’t understand how someone would not only abuse the system, but then have the audacity to be arrogant. Anytime I had to use that damn card, I was so ashamed.
I agree with the Depo shot and tying of tubes. Pretty sure that most high school drop outs should have a vasectomy. Thanks for the post.

  55. angry employee says:

I agree with this post 110%!! I got pregnant at 18 (on birth control), my dad’s work health ins. dropped me b/c of it. So, I had to apply for medicaid. I only had it while pregnant. Once my son was born, I went straight to work (in law enforcement) and my job had benefits, so I did not need Medicaid anymore. I get so annoyed when I see these women popping out “stair-step” babies just so they can keep getting free shit. Working in law enforcement and seeing how they worked the system and still complained that it wasn’t good enough made me want to strangle someone! I am scarred for life with giving Christmas gifts to the “needy”…I can promise you this! TAP, I can only imagine the crap you have to deal with! Good luck to you and keep writing these awesome blogs!

  57. todd says:

I was talking to an old friend from high school the other day and he was working three jobs to support his wife/child. I asked him why not use the welfare system like everyone else? He gave me some macho pride BS about not wanting to go on welfare. It actually was a relief to know that not all poor people believe the government should pay for them.

It’s rather ironic that the best insurance plan is given to the poor, while the hard working middle class gets stuck with so much uncertainty of never knowing how much they need to pay because of tiers and limits.

Also I remember 5 years ago if a welfare patient had a toothache welfare would simply pay to have to tooth pulled. Now the welfare system is willing to pay for root canals in order to save the teeth. Root canals are more expensive and usually require more follow up work.

    • hell's bells says:

Hard working middle class? At least you have insurance! What about the hard-working underclass, like Mr. Three Jobs? No health insurance for you! This is why people stay on Medicaid and don’t work or work under the table or deal or whatever. They can’t afford to get off of it.

Universal healthcare (for citizens–all others get in line) would cut a whole lot of the BS out there right now. Note: universal healthcare does not mean “no copays”.

I’m thinking WTF you are making thousands every month and probably not even reporting it to the IRS yet you still need welfare!?

  59. Just An Idea... says:

How about at birth, or as close as you can get to it, every child is ‘sterilized’? From that point forward, all of the money that is currently going to irresponsible parents will now go to the ‘Board’ who interviews all prospective parents who want to have children. They have to be of stable mind/body/HAVE A JOB to be able to conceive. When I was growing up, there was a family across the street who had 10, yes TEN kids in a three bedroom townhome. A home that was about half the size of our house, (which had three kids) These 10 kids were never bathed, ran around in clothing 3 days old, and never had any supervision. Did either parent work? Nope. These subjects get me so heated!!!! Imagine the quality of care those children are receiving, or in this case, NOT receiving. They will never get the love they are seeking, and will learn that treating others the way they treated their family is acceptable. The greatest thing of them all? Know why she was having kids? CUZ SHE LIKED BABIES. When they got older though, she really could do without them. Are you kidding me….

  60. retailcircus says:

Perfect situation in our retail pharmacy the other night….grandmother, on medicaid, comes in with her grandson who is already mentally handicapped, probably from too many drugs the Mom used, and the child opens several bottles of store brand Tums and Pepcid complete and takes a few. The grandmother gets MAD AT US stating she wants US to fill a report out that WE were responsible for her grandson taking the pills. Are you fucking kidding me? #1 I’m not your fucking babysitter, #2 Take some responisibilty, oh heaven forbid you must take some responsibility, #3 this isn’t a damn playground. Then she’s screaming because the package looks like it’s candy to him. I’m fuming at this point. She is persistent and yells…blah blah so we call the cops to get her out. The cops come , take her outside then she says she’s a member of the NAACP and says she knows people and will have us all on the news and paper. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? How is this a racial thing? Gotta love retail!!!

  61. Shalom (R.Ph.) says:

If NYS Medicaid covers vacation overrides, either they didn’t in 2004 (I’ve been working mostly in NJ since then), or if they did, I didn’t want to know about it.

See, back then, you could put an 02 override on anything and get a label out, but there was a chance you wouldn’t get paid for it, and they (you?) couldn’t tell us ahead of time what would be rejected retroactively (“use your professional judgment”), so we were conservative in what we overrode. If I could document a good reason for an early fill, I’d take the chance. Therefore, if someone claimed they lost something, I would tell them to go to the precinct and file a Lost Property report; I’d tell them that I’d keep it “in their file” in case Medicaid wanted to know why they were filling it early. This usually got rid of the fakers, as uttering and publishing a false instrument had a bigger penalty than medicaid fraud, and they knew it. Once, though, a guy came back with a paper torn from a notebook, with a handwritten statement that the person “…left his medicine on the bus, signed, the 26th Precinct.” Right, and Epstein’s Mother was working the desk that day. Sure.

As to those who can’t comprehend why Clomid ain’t covered. If someone asked me “Why not?”, my first response would be “For the same reason that there’s no copay on birth control.”

    • Hardwyre says:

I love how people cry about it “taking two!” whenever it comes to a chick getting pregnant; but yet, if the dude wants her to get and abortion, and she doesn’t, he’s still responsible!? WTF? It was HER choice to keep the lil shit.

  64. Antionette says:

I totally agree! I think we need to sterilize the men and women getting any assistance after the first child. The woman can’t have children without the man, so they both need it. They also shouldn’t be allowed to buy beer/alcohol, cigarettes, or anything else that they’re money can be used for to better they’re life. I actually think pregnancy and the ability to get some one pregnant should be stopped at birth. Only way you are allowed to reverse that is if you take an exam and deemed able to take of that child. If you want to do all the leisure activities don’t ask me to pay for them.

    • KC says:

Wow.. you took the words right out of my mouth here. I get annoyed by the fact that I have the ability to use my child support card at the liquor store, but I can’t buy GAS with it!! Seriously? It’s like my relative is just having his turn with her, since of course every one to two children have a different father. Get a job people! Quit using the system.. or it will come back to haunt you. I hope it does. Quit being a rabbit! And yes, I’m even more irate because responsible people like me can’t even have one for whatever reason. I hate your stupidity.

I should have the right not to pay for these people’s mistakes (read: ABUSE OF THE SYSTEM).

TAP – you’re the GREATEST!! I want/NEED to come and work with you.

Don’t forget that while said entitled welfare stupid-bitch mom is picking up her nasty grape-flavored Septra for kid #5, the tech (likely me) will be informing it..I mean HER that the Tylenol drops are OTC and are not covered on her card. I’ll also then explain that we carry a generic that she can buy for about two bucks, at which time she’ll look at me like I have six heads. And while she’s bobbing and weaving her head (freshly “done” hair-do atop) and waving her freshly french-manicured hands (32 gold bracelets jinglin’, half-smoked stogie between two fingers & cell-phone between ring finger and thumb), she’ll explain to me that SHE DOES NOT PAY HER CHILD’S MEDICATION, that SHE DOES NOT HAVE TWO FRICKIN’ DOLLARS to pay for any tylenol drops.

I think that everyone’s “entitled” to screw up once. When a peice of shit who will never get off her back is delivering for the SECOND time on OUR dime, the state needs to throw in a complementary fuckin’ hysterectomy.

  72. AngryPharmacyTech says:

Praise the Lord that many people share my frustrations about government benefits. My biggest pet peeve is the no good non-appriciative assholes who come to pick up a RX (name brand of course) and when told they have a two dollar co-pay I get “Two dollars for what? I’m on Medicaid I ain’t got to pay!” That really burns me!!! They bitch about two damn dollars for a 90 day supply of Singulair (valued at over $500 might I add) when they have new clothes, shoes, nails, hair and not to mention the new fuckin Mercedes Benz that is parked next to my rust bucket in the parking lot because I can’t afford to buy a brand new car because I actually have to pay for child care housing food etc.. It annoys me that these people live for free off my tax dollars and when a hard working tax payer gets laid off (my husband) is denied for everything under the sun because we make more that 120% above poverty level!! What the hell is poverty level then? I am all for people who use the system to better the lives of themselves and their children in a positive way. But these lazy ass people men and women who lay on their ass day while I am at work for 8 plus hours making a life for my family have the nerve to call the pharmacy 50 times in a hour to check if their MD called the script in for their migraines cause their kids are driving them nuts!!! Get a damn job then and get off your back! And by the way it really pisses me off to see ER scripts for Benadryl, Motrin, Vaporizers, Hydrocortisone, Tylenol etc… These idiots are so stupid and worried about having to pay for something that in the time that they drove to the ER waited for 4 hours drove to and from the ER to the pharmacy and home that they could have just bought the shit OTC!!! Another one, you take your child to the ER on a weekday after office hours for who knows what, they give you a RX for antibiotics (which they probably don’t need them anyway) but you decide to wait for 2 months to bring that RX in to fill at 5 minutes before we close and say they need it right away Give me a fucking break people! I wish someone at these welfare offices would open their eyes or mouth and think about reorganizing the whole system. I am a 25 year old married mother of 2 kids ages 2 and 4 and never once have I relied on anyone or any program to take care of myself and my family. If people would quit trying to get a free ride and actually do something with their lives, maybe this country would have tax money to use in the places where it’s really needed!

I have a story for you all.I am in college to become an addictions counselor and one of my classmates left his job at a HIV/AIDS help center because in his last week of working there, four teenage girls came in that contracted HIV on PURPOSE.They are called “blueberries” on the street and these young ladies want to contract HIV or AIDS in order to get free housing and other benefits from our government. This is how ignorant our society has become. My classmate could not take it anymore because he was tired of trying to help people who wouldn’t help themselves. How the hell does this happen?

    • Seriously? says:

Gee, I wonder. They suffer from an addiction, or mental disorder, or are homeless for some other reason and can’t get off the street, and this seems (although foolish) like the only way out. For fuck’s sake, for a bunch of supposedly educated people that work at a pharmacy (or whatever) you sure are a bunch of idiots!

LOVE the site-a friend of mine just sent me the link.

ESPECIALLY this one! I grew up in a town where my high school had a day care center for the STUDENTS. DISGUSTING. It makes me so sick to work and see how much freebies these girls get and there are people who struggle with the costs of medications because they are working and make too much money (which by many standards is just slightly above the poverty level) to get government aid.

I had someone yell at me since her $300 medicine had a $3 copay. And of course she had hair done, 6 inch manicured nails, and a designer handbag. Great.

My family moved here when I was a small child from another country with nothing and was able to make it without any sort of government aid whatsoever-and my entire family lives a very comfortable life. My parents worked 2 jobs until they could get their respective professional licenses. Oh we didn’t have a tv, a nice car, or mcdonalds, or fancy sneakers like all these kids did. But of course we didn’t get \free\ government money either.

These people make me sick to my stomach.

A friend of mine is a pharmacist at CVS. Her 19 year-old pharmacy clerk who has only been working there for 6 months got IVF which was paid for by her insurance at CVS. She is unmarried, lives with her grandmother, and is on medicaid. She said she wanted to have a kid to get government aid to give the money to her family, but couldn’t get pregnant on her own, so she got a job and let her insurance pay for IVF and let everyone else pay for the kid. She plans on quitting after the baby is born.

  81. Refulgent Cynosure says:

I agree with so much of what you’ve written. The stereotype (well deserved) of people on aid causes me a lot of embarrassment when I have to use food stamps or Medicaid. Too bad there isn’t a way to distinguish the people who are using the services as intended vs. the lazy, the uninspired, and the outright abusers of the system.

I was (and still am) in nursing school when my five-year-old and I were suddenly abandoned by my husband of seven years. He quit his job (so no insurance, no child support, no income at all) and walked out of the house in the middle of the night with absolutely no warning.
I called my mortgage company, put my home up for rent to cover the mortgage, packed a few things and moved in with my mother. Got food stamps, childcare assistance, education assistance, medicaid, and psychological help for the kid. I got nicotine patches from the health department and quit smoking. I switched from diet coke to unsweetened iced tea. I never missed a day of school in the process.
The only way I can show people that I am not a stereotype is by not abusing the meager benefits I’ve been allowed. You will not see soda, candy, or chips in my cart when the government is paying to feed my precious child. I try to get every bit of nutrition I can out of those 250 dollars’ worth of food.

I’d happily submit to drug testing, as I’ve never done a drug in my life. Personally, I would decline the birth control shot, as I am doing okay without cash assistance. I’d accept an IUD, though, as a gesture of my intentions to be responsible and my gratitude for the temporary assistance.

And thank you to everyone for understanding that some people use the help as it was intended. I plan to be employed and paying my own taxes in the near future.

  82. lori says:

I thought I was the only one who felt this way. People do need a hand from time to time. The welfare system was not designed to be a way of life. Alot of people are trying to get a bill passed where if you recieve housing/foodstamps/cash/medical (the whole state goody package) that you should be required to do manadatory drug/alcohol testing. Dirty urine? Benefits cut. I received medical assistance one time, when I got pregnant at a young age. After my husband and I had our second child in 1990 we knew that we couldn’t afford any more, so I had my tubes cut, tied and burned. I went back to work when my child was 3 days old. I waitressed until 2 days before I gave birth. I thank God that I was able to get decent prenatal care. My children are now 19 and 24. Everyone works or is getting an education. My local pharmacist is wonderful. He is on our Christmas card list. I have no health insurance. I pay cash. So when he can advise me on a cheaper medicine or any type of discount he does. My husband died June 1, 2009. He was a veteran. He died of esophogeal cancer. The VA kept sending the wrong supplies, and he ended up suffocating to death in our bed because he was waiting for inner canulas for his trach, and the trach got more and more clogged. The local pharmacist got me the inner canulas but by than it was too late, they didn’t fit inside the trach. The VA shipped them to me after he died. So when I see people getting free prescriptions and food and housing, yes, I get angry. Maybe if I would have had state aid I could have gotten those canulas quicker. BTW, the local pharmacist ordered me a box and charged me cost. When my husband died I donated about $800 worth of medical supplies to the local medical supply company. He had a peg tube in his stomach. Medicaid only pays for two cases of liquid food a month. They are $45 a case. Most people go through a case every three days. They promised me they would use all the supplies for people who really needed them. To all you pharmacists out there who are decent and nice, thank you. It is appreciated by many. For those who abuse the system, I have no words. It seems to be a waste of breath. Sorry for my little rant. Enjoyed reading your blog.

I must agree wholeheartedly. I have to admit, my boyfriend and I are currently on the ‘state ride’. I had an oops almost two years ago (while properly utilizing birth control pills). I took state medical while I was pregnant, but nothing else. We did fine for the first six months or so after my son was born, but after my boyfriend was laid off from two consecutive jobs due to the economic downturn, we really had no choice. We are both currently in college, he’s upgrading his skills and I’m learning an entirely new field. I predict that we’ll be entirely off of assistance soon, hopefully within the next six months. What I don’t understand is some of the women in the (state-mandated) life skills class that have three or four kids and much nicer clothes than I’ve ever owned, complaining about the (meager) participation requirements for the TANF program. They just can’t be bothered to get up at 8 in the morning in order to continue receiving the check that supports their children, and yet they complain when they’re sanctioned. It just makes no sense to me.

    Story: (Small town Georgia)
Pharmacist to Intern: “Today is going to suck, I promise, its welfare check day, so every one in 20 miles will be here today. And 95% will get their bitch on about something.

Intern: *rolls eyes*…..and how exactly is that going to be a surprise?

    *Drive Thru Chime*

Lady in Brand New Navigator with spinners: I want my prescriptions, and my kids prescriptions (screaming kids in car).

Pharmacist to Lady: Just one second and I’ll combine the bags, and I’ll be right back. Ok, I have all 10 medications here, you total is $2.20.

Lady: What? Shooot, no. I ain’t payin’. My stuff is free.

    PharmacistL Apparently not everything.

    Lady: SO make it free.

    Pharmacist: Um, no.

Lady: I have five kids, and me and them is all free.

Pharmacist: It would seem not, you can call your Welfare number if you want and come back later. But as of right now, they processed through, and two of the prescriptions are $1.10. Your total is $2.20.

    Lady: I’m not paying.

Pharmacist: Well, what would you like to do?

Lady: You can just give them to me.

Pharmacist: Ma’am I own this pharmacy and no one here is going to just give you and entire fill of anything just because you have an issues paying for $2.20 when you are obviously not broke.

    Lady: Excuse me?

Pharmacist: Well you have a brand new and pimp out Navigator, and god only knows how many of your kids are with you in it eating food that your food stamps bought. Half my salary goes to the government, so you can continue to leech off the decent people in society. SO perhaps maybe I should take out my wallet and pay your $2.20 like I pay for everything else you do. And while I’m at it….*flipping through wallet* would you like a few 20′s for when you go get your hair ‘did’? Or maybe a few hundred for a new left front rim cause it looks like you scratched the one that my tax dollars already bought you.

Lady Drives off without her meds.

  87. Jane F says:

I really enjoyed reading all of your comments today. I have a daughter and a loser in law, I mean son-in-law, and unfortunately they have been sucking off society for about 7 or 8 years now. It totally ticks me off (not my first choice of words). My daughter did the have a baby at 16 thing, the loser father is still a loser. She then marries loser-in-law, but in the mean time I am raising my grandchild. Stupid daughter then has another child with loser hubby. All the while they are getting free rides the whole time. Medicaid, food stamps…and then my daughter is given social security disability check every month for bipolar disorder. They have cigarettes of course, cable tv, tattoos, belly rings etc. GRRRRR. Then along comes baby number 3…of course! I told them somebody better get sterilized or I was going to do the surgery MYSELF! I am sick of their sense of entitlement, I have tried for years to teach them budgeting skills, helped her get enrolled in school to be able to work (she dropped out of course). Too lazy you know. They have lived with my husband and I MANY times over these years when they go belly up because of drug use, non payment of rents, or other legal troubles. Loser-in-law went to rehab AGAIN a month ago…we’ll see how long he stays clean. Loser daughter (who I really do love, but I think she is stupid, lazy, and irresponsible…is in rehab now, for the first time. She started out by just smoking her pot, then she went on to xanax occaisionally, then did the meth thing for a while, and last but not least 3 months ago decided to try injecting Dilaudids! BRILLIANT! So now I have one child (still), my son has one child, and loser-in-law has one, but I think child should be taken from him personally. However child abuse folks don’t seem to be able to help in protecting my grandchildren they tell me…hmmmm. My stupid daughter had a party in her rental house 2 weeks ago, and another loser decided to use a huge amount of crack while there…then proceeded to drop dead right there on her sofa! 48 years old. My 2 young grandchildren were present…but family services says that is not enough to step in to make sure they are safe! Lovely. Now I am in the process of trying to get my infant grandsons crib and belongings out of the drug house my daughter has been in for the last week before going to rehab. I called this drugged up ***** yesterday and asked if I coulf get the baby’s stuff…she proceeded to get hateful and asked me if I had any RESPECT, because HER child was asleep right then, but I could hear people talking loudy and very inappropriately in the background! I said she shouldn’t be talking about anyone having respect because you have a house full of folks over there shoving crap in their veins with the kids there. Another GRRRR. I am very angry right now. I am not an addict, never have been, so I do not understand it at all. That lady druggie on the phone then also yelled at me and asked me where I was last week when Lindsay wanted something…I said waiting right here for her to want HELP, or recovery…not money for drugs because I refuse to be the enabler. They were hoping to get her disability check for drugs! If she wants my help, she will name me as payee on that social security check, and I will control finances…I will NOT help her and allow our hard earned tax dollars to be used for cigarettes, drugs, or other ignorant crap. Please forgive my rant…but I feel better now. I agree that society needs to revolt, and simply say ENOUGH! Our country is going to hell in a hand basket while a lot of us (myself and my husband included) have to work 2 jobs to get by without aid of the government…but we have pride, and will do what we have to. We have a great work ethic, and are very responsible. I am like all of you, I am sick of paying through the nose for others to be able to sleep until noon every day, have fancy cars and cell phones, and we are going to garage sales to find bargains!!@!

    • Disabled and hate it. says:

Sounds like maybe you are just ignorant and think people with bipolar are lazy slobs that “work the system”. I have type II bi-polar disorder myself, diagnosed by many many doctors, have endured many many stays in mental hospitals, suffered from addiction and been to drug treatment several times. Your description of your daughter and her situation sounds almost exactly like my own. I got a christmas card this year with a letter in it from my father (I’m 38 and have been off drugs for a long time now) giving me advice to “get a job” and “haven’t you worked the system long enough?” You would think that this long history of doing things people with my condition do would have given him a clue that maybe I’m not lazy, maybe there is something to this. But as I can plainly see, you seem to be following the same ignorant line of thinking he does and I’m not too surprised he still doesn’t get it. My drug use was what is commonly referred to as self medication. When the way you feel on a daily basis makes you want to kill yourself, you try to find anything you can do to avoid that. Suacide is a last resort for people with mental/emotional problems, the first thing people go to is self medication. It works, to an extent to at least make you not want to blow your head off. I know I have put my parents through hell with my addiction, and now that I have my emotions back I do truly feel regret and remorse for what happened. I too had a kid, and rightfully had it taken away when I was still using meth and heroin. Get those children out of there, period, but please I beg you, do not judge your daughter or attach a stigma to who she is. She is a beautiful child of this earth who needs someone on her side, doing every thing in their power to help her. Looking back, I remember what it was like, and what it is like now. It still isn’t great. My wife and I struggle to eat and we rent a garage to live in. Now I receive medicaid and ssi and I am able to get medicine. It doesn’t relieve my symptoms enough to allow me to work but I don’t wan’t to kill myself, at least not every day any more. There is hope and please believe me when I tell you neither she nor her husband are bad people. They are sick. Another thing most people don’t know is when it comes to mental disorders, like usually attracts like. My wife is also bi-polar and went through the very end of my addiction with me. My childs mother, also bi-polar. Both my parent’s (though bi-polar isn’t always genetic) were bi-polar and addicted to drugs when they DID kill themselves. I was adopted at the age of 2 weeks old because I was born to bi-polar parents hooked on drugs. I was immediately taken away. The point is, try and have a little tolerance for those with disabilities. I hate living on SSDI and SSI. I hate having to pull out my WA state services card, fully able bodied and asking for my medication. Using food stamps at the register, getting dirty looks from people in line because they see me on public assistance with all my limbs and not in a wheelchair. Inside my brain is what they can’t see and refuse to consider. I had a lady once at a register looking at the pair of new yorks I had put in my cart and said “God, I wish I could get food stamps, so I can eat a steak!”. I went home and cried. There is enough stigma already attached to mental disorders and addiction. Rise above the ignorant and just plain uneducated and love that kid and your son in law. Fight for them. Do something that helps make your community aware of people with mental disabilities. She is going to be judged and criticized her entire life if something doesn’t change. Please help break the cycle and don’t do what my father does, ignoring the proven truth because he’s too stubborn to open his mind.

I have worked for 11 years in a school system in maine as a special needs bus driver. I have seen so many “welfare moms” take advantage of the sytem that I want to go to each and every home and beat them senseless!! I have a little girl (9) who gets herself up every morning, tries to dress herself and get to school. She’ll be walking down the street 1/2 hour before her pick up time dressed in a nearly see through mini dress and go go boots and nothing else, in the WINTER!! When I ask her about her clothing, she just says, “well I don’t have much so I just take some of my mom’s stuff.” When I find her (she’s never at her bus stop, and guess what!! I’m responsible for her safty and can be held responsible for anything that happens to her!) I ask her where her mom is and the answer is always the same….she’s sick a lot and is still sleeping….(i.e….got to wasted on drug of choice… just saying.) I brought this to the attention of the special education coodinator, my supervisor and the vice principal of our school. the solution…well we can’t make mom take more responsibility for being a mother to her daughter so you will now have to take a full size school bus down a small road to a small rotary area, go to the girls door, knock on the door and escort her to the bus!WHAT THE F*%#!! It’s a private section 8 housing area (free room and board welfare sluts…come and get it!!) so I need written permission to go down there…not only that MY BUS WON’T FIT. When I tell the vice principal this she just looked at me and said well it’s your problem figure it out. FIGURE IT OUT!!! I’m not this child’s mother…don’t want to be…I just want to drive her to and from school!! I have about 28 other “special needs” students to get to 6 differant schools on time..and now the school administration is just throwing this obvious lack of parental concern back in my lap!

I have another “welfare mom” who’s son has flat feet so we have to pick him up on the bus to get him to school…they live 6 houses away !! Talk about abuse of the special needs system…let’s not forget the 8th grade boy I pick up that should be on a regular bus run but isn’t because his “welfare mom” has decided that the noise on the regular bus might bother her son…this same mother can’t be bothered to go to school meetings so they go to her apartment!! Folks your school taxdollars are being wasted by these “WH*^%s!

A few weeks ago she came into the pharmacy with her usually stack of prescriptions and demanded instant help. Looking through her list, we came upon a script for prenatal vitamins. Back in March she welcomed number 8 into the DSHS world and now she is with child again. Too bad that this state does not pay for this medication without prior authorization. The MD could not understand why this was an issue. 3 pages of paperwork and 2 days later the prescription was approved. that was 3 weeks ago and the little ray of sunshine still has not picked them up. this chick needs to have her legs glued together!!!!

BookwormTech, that was so eloquent and oh-so accurate. i used to consider myself liberal, but have realized the lack of accountability and reform in such bastardized programs has made me lose faith in those who are left or right of center that promise to do something about it. they can point fingers at each other, but both sides are at fault for this – the Bush administration played a big part in getting us into this mess (esp. with the nightmare and headache that is MediCrap Part D), but i’m not so sure the Obama administration will provide the reform and transparency that was promised.
you have the right mindset about this situation. you should run for office – you already have my vote.

  95. CdnEquestrian says:

I live in Canada…and after leaving an abusive husband of 8 years, found myself unable to find a job or pay my bills. I went on our version of welfare, and you know…the girls at the office were AMAZING. One of the girls confided in me that she would do anything for me, BECAUSE she knew I was actively looking for a job and wouldn’t be with them long. It took me 2 months…and I had a job and could support myself. I sent the girls a big gift basket of goodies, because they were so helpful, and without them, I had no idea what I would have done.

That said…if I had been REQUIRED to recieve a depo provera shot before recieving any aid (which was a measly $600/month by the way) I would have whipped my pants down and presented an ass cheek. It’s a small price to pay for help. Seriously.

I think mandatory birth control SHOULD be law…both in the US and Canada. I sadly know MANY MANY MANY girls that I went to school with, who now have multiple children by different fathers, and have been sitting on welfare for 5-10 years each. Disgusting.

The real kicker is…years after having to use welfare, I am married with two beautiful step kids. We live on a small farm, and my husband is manager of a large oilfield company. I own my own business, and we are very financially stable. I have no kids of my own, and would like one with my husband….but I can’t have kids. I’ve suffered multiple miscarriages, and have pretty much given up after years of trying to conceive. Yet…the cracked out 17 year old who took her newborn twins for a walk downtown in the middle of winter with -40*c temperatures, with them only wearing a thin receiving blanket and diapers….she can get pregnant no problem. Tell me how THAT is fair?

(Also…in Canada, welfare can be given for 3 months, and then requires 1 month off of welfare before you can recieve any aid again. You also must PROVE that you are trying to gain employment, and they have lots of resources for obtaining schooling or skills training.)

I made a few of the comments above on my post on the subject and my liberal instructor attacked me with questions \Why can they not get to their appointments? M/b they do not have transportation?\ I don’t know why these idiots do not even call to make the appointment, it is there for them use at my expense. Still they, poor things that they are, do not have adequate transportation to take little miss inocent and sweet to the doctor. Well why doesn’t she get the person who took her to get those stupid looking fake fingernails to take her? An hey, who is she talking to on her cell phone? Why, m/b they could take her??? It is not like they go the MD every other day for petes sake. They seem to find transportation to get everywhere else they want to go!
Anyway, still looking for good references for this paper citing that these people are just plain lazy, stupid . . . see above post. I was told I was being judgemental. Well so fing what! What am I suppposed to do, just work my ass off and write out blank checks?

Why is there so many deadbeat dads out there that can’t take care of their kids? Maybe society should be setting a better example for men. It is pretty sad that out welfare system is flooded with single moms and that just shows that our world is flooded with guys that cannot provide which makes them not a REAL man!!!! Also, I think that guys should be more responsible as well and maybe start using condoms if they do not want to take care of kids! It takes two to make a baby and you should really kick back on woman on welfare and at least give them credit for going on welfare to take care of the kids unlike the fathers and at least they aren’t dumping their babies in the trash. Also word of advise last I heard you can only receive cash aid for up to 5 years so technically the state will not be raising these kids…the parents will have to figure something out and hopefully get an education so they can get off welfare and provide for their kids!!!! People have no idea how hard it is to be a single mother and should really kick the fuck back unless you are walking in their shoes! Also for the guy that wrote this….sounds like he is one of the deadbeat dads that has anger towards the system that is going after him for child support!!! He also sounds like a very unhappy person that is probally single and will never even have kids!!

Okay, I’m sorry. This is The BEST WEBSITE EVER. God, it’s refreshing to hear someone tell it like it is.

  102. Amanda says:

I live in the wonderful state of California where illegals, and lazy ass gang bangers live and feed of the system I pay into. I am a single mom and my daughters loser dad doesnt pay one cent in child support cuz he doesnt believe hes a good dad (whatever) anyways…I dont live off of any kind of assistance, according to the guidelines i make “TOO MUCH MONEY” right…but people who come to this country illegally and have 50 kids once they get here can get welfare, food stamps, section 8 etc…or the girls who have babies so her boyfriend will stay with them and then dont do shit with their lives. My ex sister and mother in law are two examples…My ex sister in law drives an escalade, has coach purses and millions of clothes…she lives off welfare, food stamps and her sons child support…WTF?! My ex-mother in law is a resident (green card) and has section 8 and food stamps she doesnt work but complains about EVERYTHING under the sun..let me mention that her kids dont do shit-get high and sit home all day none of them graduated high school and oh btw they are all on Medi-cal..I struggle everyday to provide for my daughter..I went to school and have a full time job…wheres my break??

  103. Celiwyn says:

Thank you for the tidbit about how the “working” side of welfare. I happened to have saved up for maternity medical and the whole bit before trying for my daughter -all the ducks in a row so to say and I got really ill, lost my job and ended up with a ton of medical bills my insurance didn’t cover.

All the things I would of planned for before having her if I had known.

As much as I knew I wanted another child – when I was told they would pay for one year of birth control my choice – I purposely choose the one that would last for five years instead of pills I don’t trust anyway.

My baby girl deserves me waiting until I can afford to give her a sibling – even if it means she doesn’t have one. This is coming from someone that wants 2-3 kids and has said so for the last ten years.

  104. Lauren D says:

I got an RX from an 18 yr old, and of course she was on ACCCHS (medicaid) and I was already pissed but as I was typing it up, the doctor definitely wrote for two fucking refills, REALLY!? Its an OOPS pill, not an OOPS OOPS OOPs pill! She has lost her “right” to have kids, we need to start spaying and neutering these people. I love that even when I was laid off from said pharmacy I couldnt even qualify and still do not have insurance to this day

  105. KC says:

You got it all backwards with me. The first kid I was stupid and irresponsible, the second one, the only thing stupid about it was that it was with a guy who refuses to marry anyone. We had the money, and could afford a second kid without assistance (if he would have married me). Now, I’m working my ass off to get off the said system because well…. it’s more work to be working on it, then it is to just live off the system.

However, I do not think that living off the state is any different than having a “sugar daddy” (mentality wise) and this is a commonly taught practice among women. I get shit because I’m told “why are you even working? Don’t you have a man to pay for all your bills? Don’t you have kids you should be sitting on your ass taking care of them, let the state pay” and I don’t want to live like that.

FUCK THIS! First off, I’m not a whore! Living off of your “man”‘s money is getting paid to have sex with someone…. thank you, that makes you a whore! (this is of course different than being a stay at home mother where you actually work at home and are productive in a relationship).

Damn, now I’m on my own rant.

Anyway, the point is, although, I’m not sure that I would have my beautiful children if this were the case, I say:

If it weren’t for the fact that there is no legal way to do it, I would LOVE to see mandatory B.C. given until you can prove yourself ready to be a parent, at least on a mental standpoint, and have taken parenting classes to then see how you are still not really ready. THEN are given charge of a demon child from hell, which you are fully responsible for over the course of say… a month. By then you don’t want children anymore… Problem solved…. of course, I’m pretty sure that our species would die out.

  106. stella says:

lol.not sure if you realize it or not,but welfare isnt guarenteed for life, thieseems yor is a lifertime max of 48 months for one,for two? you cant get it untill you workk or volunteer, you have to do this for afdc money.3rd of all, when you start woprking, you have to pay back the money you got for the kids..so all this free ride stuiff is ridiculous.seems your lying the whole blame on the mothers, you know it takes to to tango sweetie,
but i do agree that having more kids is a stupidity itself, when your not in the position to care for them though.

  107. Openmindedbutnotlettingmybrainfallout says:

I understand fully where this rant is coming from. I really do. I have to say that as a mom of 2 with #3 on the way, I can not say I am proud of my situation. After baby #2 we were on assistance. My fiance’ was working and I was going to college full time. We were doing well and got off assistance. We were enjoying our financial stability but making sure things were taken care of where all our financial responsibilities were concerned, including our children. We decided when our 2nd child was 3 to try for another baby. At the time we could afford it and everything was fine. Then my fiance’ lost his job due to a massive layoff at his job. Shortly thereafter we found we were indeed expecting. We conceived while we were doing well. Unfortunately we ended up back on assistance and I am pregnant while on this assistance. We are doing everything we can to get back on our feet and had we known this was coming we would have NEVER planned for another baby. Fiance’ is working again and we are on our way back to where we were before. We hate being on assistance but are doing all we can to get off again

  108. Sandee says:

I was just having a discussion with my neighbor about this. I would never accept help from the state or government as I see that as me being a failure and also I do not need it where there are those that truly do. My neighbors sits on their buts all day on the computer and gets “FREE” health care and meds and has their light bill paid and even shoes bought for their kids! Meanwhile my husband works from 4AM till 7PM and we struggle to get medical care and buy medicines but were paying for the lazy azz neighbors to get everything “FREE”!
    I AM SICK OF IT!
I say get off of your lazy azz and get a job!

  109. PharmyTech/Intern says:

What about state welfare programs that refuse to cover birth control? I like your idea of a depot shot when on welfare, but from what I’ve seen a lot of states refuse to cover anything resembling birth control, even condoms, which instantly makes the chances remote that recipients would use it

  112. Sarah says:

I have to say that I completely agree with this post. I get so tired of everyone on welfare coming through the pharmacy driving brand new cars and talking on their iPhones. I’m a pharmacy student and working my butt off to pay my way through school and yet these people complain if their prescription is $3 (of course everything should be free). We actually had a patient come in and say that she was pissed that she didn’t get a raise. The technician she was talking with politely commented that the economy is tough right now and not many people are getting raises. The patient then has the nerve to say that she is completely government supported and should be given more money. I’m pretty sure the raises to go to those who are actually working for them.

  113. Jim Ward says:

I could not have said it better!!!!!! This is so so true! This is why people need to wake up and realize why this country is going in the direction that it is!

  114. Man Among Sheeple says:

    “a” and “Lisa,”

I am not one of those men who indiscriminately sleeps around. No woman has ever had to wonder whether or not she was pregnant as a result of knowing me. I am also one of those men who believes he should have the means to support his own before he brings them into the world, and certainly do something to support them once they have arrived.

Perhaps you could explain why women invariably find themselves with those other guys who couldn’t care less. Perhaps you could explain, on your way to track down these delinquents, why guys like myself get NONE of the attention from your half of the species. Perhaps you could explain why the guys that DO get that attention are so often the tattooed, jobless, brain-dead wastes of time whose proliferation mark the end of Western Civilization?

    Yeah, no, didn’t think so.

    • sara says:

You need to take TATTOOED out of there.. you put it in your statement like having tattoos automatically makes you an asshole that is on welfare. My husband has quite a few tattoos ..and guess what !! he ISN’T on welfare , he HAS a GREAT job , and he supports our four children and myself. He was top of his class in high school when he graduated and he was on the deans list with a 4.3 average in college. Looks like maybe you are a bit bitter… have you ever thought that maybe it could be how you look ? women can be quite superficial. Maybe your intelligence is lacking ? or perhaps women just don’t go for the crybaby , woe is me bullshit that you were handing out on a silver platter when you wrote that statement.

  115. Suzy says:

I work for the state and totally disagree with Kurt back in May of 2009. I don’t want these people abusing the system more than you and would be totally happy to be able to cut these people on a daily basis don’t blame the workers blame your federal and state government along with policy makers. Once these people get on these services it is hard as hell to get them off of them. It really pisses me off everyday when I see mothers come in with three or more kids on the system it makes me sick and I try everything possible to not give these people more. By the way totally believe that people on welfare should be made to have depo shot. Awesome suggestion and many of my fellow workers totally agree and say this everyday.

  116. Betsy R says:

As a long-term welfare worker who “escaped” that nuthouse 9 years ago, I am blown away. I know all about this sh!t!

Oh, hell, yes, welfare mommies go to the doc in the 1st trimester, “Have you finished my Medicaid yet? I’m a pregnant woman and I have to go to the doctor.” Sorry, folks, I disagree with a lot of American medical practice. Why do healthy pregnant women easily get Medicaid when sick people can’t get it?

I had one welfare grandma/mother with four teenage girls, about 16 to 20. The only one who did not have a kid of her own had menstrual periods so bad she had to get transfusions. So I guess that’s why she had not yet been knocked up.

I don’t know how I feel about sterilization and cutting off their benefits after 2 or 3 kids. Most of them could do at least 10 hours a month workfare, but they are so stupid and/or lazy, no one wants them around their business doing workfare.

I don’t mind paying for them to get a high school education, but I mind paying for free college. I could not get financial aid to go to college when I was younger. If I could work 40 hours in a factory and go to school 4 nites a week, why can’t they?

Most of them are too d@mn lazy to breastfeed, but they are also on cigs, dope, and booze. I never worried about their nutrition, but the cigs, dope, and booze in breast milk, yeah, I got a problem with that.

Yes, the states check on their automobiles. Lots of them drive friends’ cars. Some daddies do give the mommies money, but the mommies won’t tell. State child support enforcement gets better on that crud all the time.

One grandma, “Oh, I can’t afford to get my twins something for Easter.” D@mn, she got help at Christmas! They don’t want to pay for anything themselves!

The average welfare worker is too busy to worry about the tax money spent on these people. When a welfare mom is sitting in the office with her born brats squawking and she’s clobbering them and brags, “I’m pregnant,” the caseworker is thinking, “How the hell did that happen? You can’t even control the brats you got.” And yes, we were supposed to call Child Protective Services on really bad conduct.

  117. Deanna says:

I filled an ER script for Patanol today. I also died a little inside. . .

    • I hatemyjob says:

It is OK Deanna. What if you filled several urgent care prescriptions for children Tylenol for CalOptima. Not only did I pay my own dispensing fee but I paid for the medication. How stupid I was even working

  118. I hatemyjob says:

I wonder how many of us actually noticed a lot of patients on welfare also drive Mercedes, BMW, Lexus. I notice that when they put their key chain on the counter. BTW, they also own an I-phone. I work my butt off every day, standing for 10 hours, I can not even afford an iphone not to mention Mercedes. I guess my hard working really paid out for those patients except for my family.

  119. medicaidsucksdick5 says:

this website is awesome, kudos to you…

my personal favorite is the mom that pulls in the drive thru, on her iphone, in the escalade smoking her cigs, (nails and hair did naturally), complains about her $2 copay for one of her 14 kids free medications ( i don’t need the inhaler, its not my fault my kid has asthma, even though i smoke 4 packs a day) “i don’t want any of them that arent free but can you run and get me 2 packs of camels and a 6 pack of beer? I got all my kids in the car” what a stupid b”tch.

    anyway…love the website!

  120. ilovelovemyjob says:

… medicaid pays for BRAND benzaclin pumps really?? because I had zits too and i didn’t get $500 acne medications for free!

The whole system is bs. have a baby at 16 and you get healthcare for free, housing for free, go to college for free, your books for free…

maybe we all should consider it, obviously working our asses off was the wrong way to go.

    happy customer service :)

  121. Jenna says:

So this was great fun to read. I just want to say that some of us who are on the “system” didn’t really choose to be and life is flippin’ rough. Yes I got pregnant, unplanned, out of wedlock- I had known my daughter’s father since he and I were both in diapers. Something in him snapped I guess, he didn’t want the responsibility and he went a little crazy. We had been together for two years. I think he got on drugs. I left him when my daughter was two months old, he was being violent and I loaded up my car with what I could fit and I moved to a domestic violence shelter (she is only four months now; I am sitting on my air bed now, she is right next to me- hopefully I can get a bed soon b/c this thing sucks). I got on the state aid and I need it. Now I went to the DHS office and I thought the same thing, how in the hell do you guys act so entitled? I’m GRATEFUL. And no I don’t have a nice phone, I have the crappiest phone on the market. Does that make some of your happy to know that? That my phone is so old it’s almost embarrassing. I wear the same three outfits over and over again… My baby is well-dressed though. My baby gets everything before I do. I got the 12 year IUD placed when my daughter was 7 weeks old. I would love more children but not unplanned. I also have enrolled in school, and am going to do my best to get through the nursing program as that’s the best entry level pay that I can find for a four year degree. I have NO ONE TO LEAN ON *EXCEPT* the state. I moved five hours away to be near the University with no waiting list for the BSN program. My family-of-origin is not very good, they are not good people to expose the baby to. You all on here are making me feel really stupid now when I used my Medicaid card, I never really realized how many of you looked down on us automatically for that. I’m SCARED to put my baby in day care, I’m the only stable thing she’s ever known. I’m not a hood rat. I just wish I didn’t have to feel my cheeks flush with embarrassment because the pharmacist thinks they’re better than me. Automatically. I guess the post that bothered me was above where a girl said that when she saw the Medicaid card she was pissed “automatically”… THEN proceeded with her story. I’m gonna bust my ass to make my daughters life as good as I can. My needs don’t even matter anymore, that’s the sacrifice I’ve made to have a child, and that’s my cross to bear since her father didn’t want to do this anymore. I damn sure didn’t expect to be a single mother and I thank God everyday that there is a system in place to help me.

Just wanted to share my story.

  122. Mike says:

Well Laura im a single father and i supported my son and his mother, i put her through college only to have her leave us when she graduated. I wanted to marry her but she felt that she was missing out on her youth and started club hopping while i took care of our child and started putting myself through college. I see a lot of ppl say these men need to take responsibility and calling them deadbeat dads. Many of these mothers do NOT want to get married they wanna go to the club so they can get in bed with as many men as possible. Women are far far more promiscuous these days then men its sickening but women keep playing the old song of men being dogs and only thinking of one thing. Go to a club its like 4 to one women to men ratio and they are all dressed like hookers half of them drop their little bastard children with their parents every weekend so they can get their club on.

    • sara says:

And where do those little “bastard” children come from ? Asshole men . Sorry sugar but just because YOU are a rare breed it doesnt mean that jerkoffs dont exist. I was lucky enough to have a wonderful man by my side… but some of these women dont.. they get stuck with pricks .

  123. I_hatemyjob says:

I have no problem to help anyone needs help. Government support health insurance is to help low income family and I am all for it. When anyone with government support insurance comes into pharmacy and asks me to call government for vacation override that is the one thing I against. How can those people get money for vacation but yet they can not pay for their medical insurance????????

  125. Joann says:

Whoops–not anymore!! Ain’t irony grand? Support your favorite Republican candidate and get contraception banned, especially contraceptives for these idiot girls and their dipshit Romeos. Result : more babies for the welfare rolls. CRAY-zee!

  126. MIssi says:

2 years later and this is still my favorite blog entry. Everything you have described, from having 5 or 6 kids to the brand new SUV, I have had occasion to see that. I was recently on the program, getting everything, but I am off now and feel much better abt myself. It’s very satisfying to work for my money. In the state that I live in, if you receive cash… unless your pregnant, you have to be in a work program! With the medical coverage, you don’t get medicaid unless your getting cash assistance. In this state you literally have to have nothing coming in per month to get cash. I am from Chicago, and in Chicago they seem to give anyone and everyone medical, I had unemployment checks coming in for $800 per month and I still had medical. Illinois IDHS is way messed up, thats probably why their in such deep debt.

  127. anonymous says:

I wish you could see where I work. All my little helpers *techs* are on some sort of state assistance. All their kids are on welfare. They get the EBT card and use it to buy junk for themselves. Their kids act up, free concerta and child counseling sessions at our expense. None of these individuals use birth control. You are right saying depo shot should be mandatory. I am sick of having to fill 5 allergy and breathing meds each for 3 kids in the same house. At a zero copay and then the parents are too lazy to pick them up. They show up 2 weeks later bitching about the meds that were RTS. Oh and they all have fancy phones, even Iphones and expensive TVs. The collection agency calls them at work. I could go on. It’s my little slice of hell I like to call work.

  128. ulcerative says:

YOU’RE ALL IN HELL, self-created & auto-fed. My Rx?…further studies into society and economics. Or did you think that the Soc101 and Intro to Econ requirements bundled within that expensive pre-Pharm degree had any value?!
There are so many connections with which your neural pathways are not making.
A simple question: what if “THEY” all get a job tomorrow? How many openings are posted on YOUR company’s job board? What will this new labor force do to YOUR healthcare premiums? Your ability to garner the 80 hrs a wk for which you currently CHOOSE to “bust yer ass” would quickly turn to a quiet, part-time gig. And then you’d be bitchin bout them welfare moms who took your hours!
The sad truth is, my friend, a society actually needs these folks. Think on it with intellect, sans emotion…maybe it’ll come to you.

  129. Seriously? says:

This is one big stereotypical, judgemental, piece of garbage. Forcing people to take potentially dangerous pharmaceuticals? I’m glad you don’t care about other peoples health, I’m sure you make a fine pharmacist. Instead of whining about how fucked up this system is, why don’t you use your so called “brain” and come up with a REAL solution that people can’t abuse and still addresses the needs of the community without putting peoples health at risk. Show us your proposal for a perfect system. Oh wait, you can’t. There is no such thing as perfect. L o fucking L. Grow the fuck up. If you were twice as smart you’d still be stupid. I can’t wait to see the garbage that spews from your mouth in response to this post. I am on the edge of my seat dripping with anticipation.

  130. mom says:

I have to comment on this from personal exp. I was one of those single moms, never on welfare, but the state helped me. I come from a wealthy family with good strong values and made a stupid mistake when I was 18. Decided to have unprotected sex (first time) and boom…eneded up preganant. My family had nothing to do with my when they found out. I had to become an adult and quick! Scared to death and not knowing what to do I went to the local Health Dept where they awarded me Full Medicaid and even set me up an appt with a Dr. After that they made me an appt to get food stamps. Im not going to lie, I felt low getting all this stuff as I had never heard of it before. I didnt have a choice being 18, pregnant, and alone. These people helped me get an apartment and everything. Anyway months went by and I had my little girl and still getting “Gov funding” as I call it but I wanted so much more for her. I went to the local college and applied for enrollment and was granted a grant to pay for all my schooling! I worked a part time job to pay for child care so I could go to school and went to school full time. I graduated with honors and was on the deans list twice! I now have my degree and pay my own bills and support my daughter fully w/o any help from the gov. Guess what Im trying to say is it can be done but they have to “want” to! I know that wasnt any kind of life I wanted for my daughter. Now I am grateful for the help but why live like that when you can have so much more?!!

  131. diana says:

    here is my complaint

At the age of 21 both my parents were dead and I was on my own ( my brother took the house, the money and ran ) At the age of 28 I had a 2 year old and a 6 month old, and my husband was arrested ( rightly so ) 1,000,000$ bail, not a nice man. I turned evidence over to the state to put him in jail for 20-60 years, he belongs in jail, permanently. I now had to figure out how to feed my kids

I raised those two children on my own, they’re now 27 and 28. I never took a penny of welfare, state aid, public assistance or charity of any kind. His family were no help……….I’d put him in jail. I worked 6 days a week, split my own wood for heat and fed those kids well on 25$ a week, many nights I didn’t eat. ( I make up for it now ) My kids were always happy, healthy and very well taken care of. None of us had health insurance, we just never went to the doctor. I cashed my vacations in for money for Christmas shopping. I wasn’t on any list for someone else to provided gifts for them, that was part of my job as a parent. If I couldn’t afford something that is what they were told “mommy can’t afford that “. We always gave to others as my children believed we were richer than many.

My daughter at the age of 28 has received 1 degree and is going for her second degree. Then hopefully onto a physicians assistant program. She works full time and goes to school full time, has almost a consistent 4.0 grade and has been on the deans list every semester. This girl has worked consistently since she was 12 years old, and feels guilty taking a vacation day ( my proverbial apple child )

My son works a job that requires 12 hour days everyday ( no weekends off here ) until the job is done, sometimes working 45+ days straight

I have gotten behind on my taxes and am being penalized, tax lien on my paycheck etc etc etc etc ( federal and state ) not a problem, I understand I need to pay taxes………….

    here is my problem

I know a young lady ( ? ) who is 29 years old, never worked a day in her life and is on state aid and health benefits. She has 2 children from a relationship where the father is a drug addict ( with a 250K$ lawsuit settlement, but he works under the table so he doesn”t pay any child support, ) Said father also lives with his new fiancee ( who is now pregnant ) and her other child, who is collecting state aid

The friend was going to go to school now that the children are both in school( paid for by the state, hence me and you also) ( the older ones baby teeth rotted out as the more candy you eat the sweeter you are, right ?? ) BUT………….. She met a new guy who was out of jail for 1 week to a halfway house…………young love ( sigh )

She is now pregnant again ( love is quick these days ) so she is not going to school, he has moved in with her. Says he works building and cleaning pools but …………ITS THEIR DOWNTIME OF YEAR ??? so hes not working right now, WTF when do you put in pools and clean them in the northeast December? its July right now

she has an Iphone, I have a pre-paid phone ( I know cuz she’s always updating on facebook via iphone as to how tough her days are )
she has nice van, I drive a 1994 Saturn
she has a nice new Ipad, not me, I can’t afford one
a new laptop ( got mad and threw the other one ) I have my daughters old re-manufactured one.
She goes to the beach all the time, or on vacation ( from what?? a job ) I can’t afford a vacation, I owe past due taxes

    I’m just venting
I understand I need to get beyond the owed taxes but really it seems hopeless when this goes on……….
can I pick where the state spends my money? how about on the old people, or fix the roads, or medicine for the mentally ill instead of homelessness. Please tell me who I have to contact as this years taxes were overpaid by about 900$ but I’m still getting notices about past dues on previous years and thought the overpaid would flow over into the underpaid and it might even out……….no such luck. I’m sure this girl needs some of my money soon so I need to take care of this. If my daughter had a child I couldn’t help her, I already have to many dependents.

To bad I’m not a younger lass, I would rethink my options and just get pregnant, it seems like the easier way to go. At this age I figure the only lying on my back I’m going to be doing is when I’m dead. Only two things guaranteed in life, taxes and death

  132. Me says:

My husband and I both worked for many years and never had any type of government assistance. We have one son, who is 12. Last year I lost my job and to apply for unemployment for the first time. To get my unemployment check, I had to register weekly online and include my weekly job search, including valid names and addresses of people to whom I had sent resumes. I wasn’t even allowed to send in the numerous job leads I got from on line sites like Craigslist and Monster unless I had a valid address for the company. I also had to submit to bi-monthly job skills classes at the closest Labor Department center, about an hour away. If I did not do these things, I received no check.

During that time, when I wasn’t looking for work or taking care of my child, I did everything I possibly could to conserve money. My career path has been in education and my husband’s has been in customer service, but with the economic chaos of the current government administration coupled with rising prices for everything, making ends meet was difficult at best. We did it though, and I am happy to say that after over a year looking for work and going to over 30 interviews, I am working again, although only part time and at a fraction of what I once made. (I think it took so long for me because I am a bit older and have a slight disability- for which I collect no government money)

When I see people using welfare as their “job” I want to scream!! Other than the unemployment, for which I am grateful, nothing was “offered” to me by the government. I am someone who paid into the system for well over 20 years before my lay off. Instead of attempting to help honest workers who have fallen on hard times, our country rewards people who have no interest in bettering themselves or their offspring. I know because I taught these children for years. Drugs, a “pimping ride”, a new pair of designer shoes were all more important than school, discipline, responsibility, ethics, or taking care of the basic needs of children and their surroundings.

I don’t see just an entitlement attitude regarding money. I see it regarding everything these days. People believe they are entitled to respect while giving none. They believe they are entitled to material goods that they have not worked for. We are truly letting our country sink and I fear for what life will be like for my son when he reaches his majority.

Thank you for letting me get this off my chest. I was once a very bleeding heart liberal- an inner city educator who was going to save the world. It took me a long time to realize that they world just didn’t want to work hard enough for themselves to be saved and I got tired of trying to take care of everyone.

I was married to deadbeat pharmacist from Fyvie, Scotland! He abandoned his son like two previous children and at least one I know of after our divorce. He wiped out bank accounts including our 2 year old sons. Never returned either. left me his debt and avoid his responsibilities when ever possible. Lied about income and took off to different part of the world doing locuums to avoid supporting his son and other children. I don’t care what you do for a living. There is scum in all professions. I managed with a a lot of hard work to get him to pay a good portion of court ordered child support. Not nearly what he owed. He is the loser for it as he missed out on a great kid. He also missed out on his other children. I respect people not professions. People by actions bring respect to themselves it is certainly not what they choose to do for a living. It is what a individual brings to a profession that makes it respectable or not.
In regards to welfare there is more white collar welfare in this world and it is not addressed. Lazy lay-a-bout politicians and there cronies, money embezzled daily from government. What percentage of bailout money was embezzled from bailouts, crooked banks, insurance companies, finance companies etc. Welfare as we know it is only a drop in the hat to what is taken from the top. But it is the smoke screen to hide the true problem with our economy. The rich who do not pay there fair share of taxes or no taxes at all. At least half of every tax dollar is wasted and or outright stolen. 25 – 40% of workers steal from there employers costing the united states alone in the private sector over 50 Billion dollars. Not to mention the money wasted on foreign wars. A lot of talk about welfare go after the real problems. Money wasted in government is astronomical! Special deals, embezzlement, out of control and no one watching the shop. Grants to oil companies and big businesses, Government contracts, Earmarks etc.

For the most part is is moms who raise children of divorce and are left holding the bag. Laws make it to easy for fathers to walk away. If a parent is doing 100% of the child rearing and the other parent none it is about time the parent is compensated for the by the neglecting parent. It is too easy to write a check although some find it extremely difficult. If parents equally supported and raised there children there would be less of a need for welfare. Moms and some dads do not get the credit they deserve for the work they do.

Little fact 90% of people incarcerated in prisons are men. Maybe they should be taxed at a higher rate than woman! The ratio of violent crime is 9:1 but closer to 100% by men.

  134. Folwart says:

They could deal with the male end of things very easily. If a woman becomes pregnant and the male doesn’t take care of it he goes to a forced labor camp or a firing squad. There will be a few who’d test the system, but as soon as people know it’s actually going to happen we’ll see a decline in irresponsibility. The penalties are obviously lacking in severity. This is real life, not fantasy play land.

Look at our country as a whole and tell me it isn’t as disgusting as shit. There was a brief time where we could have actually helped the world, now as a nation we can’t even help ourselves anymore because there are so many leeches. The said thing, not all the leaches are on the bottom of the totem pole. The few at the top are worse dollar for dollar.

I agree with you at everything i have always hated to see mothers with 2+ kids paying with food stamps and their huabands next to them. or when they have nails perms good phone clothes and cars thanks to that. yet i dont judge if i see that u really need it because to bee honest thanks to the new laws finding a job is harder yet not impossible. but one question how do we as a working society expwxt for there to be jobs if everyone know the low enplyment rate

    • sara says:

Wow , before you judge.. learn to FUCKING SPELL. You have no right talking shit about anyone with a vocabulary like that. GO BACK TO SCHOOL.

My favorite has to be the welfare mama who rants at me when their OTC meds aren’t covered or a $900 rx runs them $8….”Uh, that BETTER be a zero pay!!!” SERIOUSLY?!? I have no insurance, haven’t even seen a doc in the box in the last decade, while MY TAXES just paid for YOUR 4 snotty-nosed welfare tickets to be examined and medicated for probably less than $10!! Here’s a thought, why don’t YOU skip the weave or acrylic nails this week and pay for your own damn mistakes! Obviously painting a picture of a “particular” mother here, but guess what? Stereotypes, while not PC, exists for a reason…I see it every damn day! My second fave is people on medicaid & medicare who can’t even speak english well enough to give me their name and DOB! FUCKKKKKK what is wrong with THAT picture?!?! Whew, you were right AP, that does make ya feel better!

This is by far the best blog I’ve read yet!

  138. Anna says:

Very refreshing. I am twenty six years old and several of my former high school classmates went the “let’s be irresponsible and have babies I can’t afford” route. I, on the other hand, got myself through college with zero family financial support and have not had children yet. I work my butt off and still have a tough time financially whereas some of my former classmates are having a baby every two years and collecting every welfare benefit known to man. I absolutely believe in having a safety net. But when the safety net looks more comfortable than actually being responsible and making it on your own, we have a serious problem as a country.

I love this post. I have a career welfare family living accross the street from me. All kids by different dads of course and they get free everything. On top of that, they have this horrible attitude that even more shit should just be given to them. Ya, its awesome :(

  140. Clara says:

You do have a point. I won’t try to argue that. But why the anger and cussing? What exactly does that resolve? Why not get involved in politics and come up with ideas for improving the system. Your required birth control idea is interesting (it’s “depo” btw, not “depot”) but what good does it do sitting here in the middle of a total bitch-fest? Do something to change it. If you’re wasting the time it took to spew out all this garbage laced with animosity, you’re no better than the “waste of skin” you’re complaining about.

You’re a pharmacist? You think that gives you a right to look down on people and cast your scorn on those who don’t live up to your standards? I have news for you. NO ONE deserves the kind of hatred you’re gushing here, least of all people you don’t even know. I suggest you get some professional help to wrangle in those emotions. It’s not healthy to be expending so much hatred at having to pay taxes to support people you’ve never met before. Do you always freak out this way when you think about circumstances that are completely removed from your own life and involve people you have absolutely no connection with?

  141. Anna says:

    In response to Clara:

The fact is that with the current “representation” in Washington, there is more of a chance of pigs flying than of any substantive welfare reform. This blog is called “The Angry Pharmacist”. Everyone needs to let off steam now and then, and this is clearly one particular person’s way of doing so.

If people were making bad decisions that didn’t impact anyone but themselves, you’d be right. It would be none of anyone else’s business. But people who pay for others to have children they can’t afford have a right to be angry about it. Perhaps if enough people read this blog and agree, there will be some eventual change.

  142. Mark says:

Anybody on welfare or EBT cards should not be allowed to vote. This country would then be a much better place to live.

    • sara says:

Really ? that is the dumbest thing I have ever read. Our country would STILL be shit even if they didnt have the right to vote due to our government just being shit. The country would be a better place to live if people like you got their dicks out of their mouth and actually did something productive besides bitch about welfare cases :)

  143. sara says:

I really hope that now being around five years from when you wrote this barrel of shit that you have took the foot long stick out of your ass and stopped being such a fucking douchebag. You can rant all you want about welfare people but honestly it just makes you look like a fucking twat. I have a job , I pay taxes , I help pay for these benefits that the welfare people get. I dont mind helping out . Every human being deserves to get help when they are needing it. Why dont you rant about important shit like war or our shitty ass presidents.
