I love this! I have been out of school and working retail for 11 years. This is great therapy. I can totally relate and now I realize that society is just stupid and I have been too nice all these years. That’s why I hate my job. Keep the blogs coming!!!!!

TAP:
This will be very short. I’ve been a RPh. for 49 years and semi-retired a couple of years ago still with the ability to walk and chew gum at the same time. There is only one way to practice pharmacy and that’s in a closed door pharmacy with no patients sticking shit in your face all day and trying to figure out why the 10th grade drop out store manager says you’re not going to get a raise until he does. I’ve heard and seen it all. I could go back part time but you know what? In all truthfullness this fuckin’ profession has made me hate people. I don’t want to talk to them, fill there scripts (1.25 million), or help them. My jr. year dispensing prof. told the class one day, he could take someone off the streeet and train them to do what we were learning to do in 6 months. I’m as mad as you are with the ever increasing bullshit we have to put up with. I really wished I had gone into geology and just brushed old bones with a paint brush all day. This is the only profession where a degreed person has absolutely no respect from the people he/she works with. If a patient wants to speak with you, what does the counter person say? PHARMACIST TO THE FRONT!! Can someone just bop into a dental office, md’s office, accounts office and think someone will scream for them to drop what their doing and jump? Hell no, buddy. Did you ever see a pharmacist say a few words to a customer/patient? They stand halfway behind their protective counter like it would kill them to stand face to face with the idiot. Pharmacy is the ONLY medical profession where you do not touch the patient-hence you develop an invisible screen and 4′ is about as close as you’re going to get. Not that that’s such a bad thing.
One thing the guys today have going for them is a decent salary-I started at $1.50/hr in 1958 and when I retired in 1999 it was around $20/hr.
So make as much as you can and as quickly as you can, invest wisely and don’t stay in this asshole profession longer than 15 yrs so you can enjoy what’s left out of life.
As an aside I buy all my rx drugs from a pharmacy in Mumbai, India and save a bunch.
