Humana

Who here wants to drop Humana? Seriously. 2 friggin buck profit from each Rx. Where does Humana get off paying us this?
See, this is the inherit problem with the system(tm). Our best customers, the cash paying ones, have to subsidize the losses we take from taking retarded insurance plans like Humana. So who does this punish? Not Humana, they are reporting high profits this year (gee, wonder why). Not the patients, they pay their $3 copays while bitching the entire time. Its us and the private pay patients.
When are we going to put our foot down and say “I cant operate making $2/rx!” and stop taking Humana? Humana needs a good kick in the teeth to realize that if nobody takes their shitty plan, they are boned. Seriously. I hope Humana reps actually read this to realize that they are costing pharmacists their businesses. They need to get with the program. Their exec’s dont work for minimum wage, so neither should we.
Now I know you all may be saying “ho-hum, we’re used to it, same shit different day” but is it really? There are a bazillion Medicare part D plans out there, and the MediCare/MedicAid patients can change monthly! No excuse for them to switch to a similar plan that isn’t going to bend you over without lube! We aren’t dealing with the private insurance patients (obtained through their work) that are pretty much unchangeable. I realize that the non-Medicaid patients are pretty much screwed until November, well, cant win them all.
Send a comment if your pharmacy terminated their Humana contract. We’ve sent ours a bunch of times to their contract department, but so far no confirmation. Lets give Humana the bitch-slap they deserve for being the flithy whore of the Plan-D’s.

Well, humana is nothing compared to an insurance up in Mass where insurance and acceptance is requires. A company called fallon health, reimburses $32.77 for EVERYTHING. So, ya it is nice for lisinopril, citalopram, amoxicillin etc that you get payed $32 for it. But when you have only a few patients on Fallon it really sucks because you don’t get enough prescritions to make up the difference. Yep patient comes in on Risperdal 1mg 2 BID for over something like $400, and you get payed $32.77 for it you have to fill A LOT of generics to make up the diff. So there have actually been days where this person comes in for their risperdal, depakote, and their mom gets zomig, and ambien that I actually lost money for the day overall because I cannot make up the $800 that I just took on those prescriptions, at least we make something from humana (even though they piss me off with their reimbursement as well). Thank god I do not own an independent!

Most of us have no idea what our prescriptions cost. The only thing that shows up on my receipt is the co-pay amount.
It would be much more instructive to see the actual cost, the insurance company payment, and the write-off.
It would be even more helpful to see what different alternatives cost. Even though I have coverage, I would choose lower cost options if I could see the difference.
Why don’t pharmacies provide that information on the receipt?

Hey it is no surprise to me. This is one of the reasons why I walked out on taking meds for bipolar disorder.
I know there are serious consequences wioth not controlling my bipolar disorder, but I started drawing the line when this crap became excessive.
Not only do they screw the pharmacist they screw over the consumer too.
I would never bitch about a $3 co-pay, I would love to have a $3 co-pay. hell, my insurance doesn’t even have a set rate of co-pays for prescriptions.
This is one of the reasons why my insurance stopped paying for alot of medicines.

To Kim:
My pharmacy prints the actual cost of the prescription (drug cost and dispensing fee) on all receipts. We then show what the plan covers, and what the patient must pay (if any).
Anytime I have a patient complaining about their co-pay (especially when they have a plan that covers a percentage of the Rx), I conveniently show them that their Rx would have cost $400 otherwise and joke that they should be thankful they have insurance.
They usually pay without complaint after that.

I own an independent and don’t even take insurance, except Aetna and I’m thinking seriously about dropping them. I wouldn’t even consider taking Humana.

Seriously…I just recieved a letter from Humana this morning and they want to terminate the contact with my pharmacy for some reason about that we dont have medicaid provider. We actually have all of them and 80% of my customers are Humana insurance…they really want to take my business away…@#$%^@ them all…any idea for me to get away from this Or should I get my lawyer involve in the law suit before i shut down my pharmacy?
