Vaccines, Autism, and Dipshit Jenny McCarthy

Table of Contents

By the time you read this, the Vaccine = Autism published by the BJM will be old news (Yes, I do write a bunch of rants at once and have them post at a later date).  However lets take a closer look at this whole situation.

Lets keep in mind that I don’t belittle Autism or think its “not important”.  I’m hoping to not only find out what the cause is, but how to prevent it.  Autism, like Down Syndrome, happens and we aren’t sure exactly why or how.   Take a look at how many drugs are out there (that kill people no less) that the mechanism of action is “Undetermined”.  Are you throwing a shit-fest over those? No.  Is some random dipshit actor standing on his/her soapbox about that? Nope.

First off, Jenny McCarthy.  The woman who is best known for her blond hair and big fake tits speaks the gospel about how vaccines contribute to autism. The whole fact that people LISTEN and BELIEVE her shit makes me want to blow the brains out of 99% of society.  She should stick to what she does best, being being eye-candy.  We don’t need “actors” to be the voice of medicine, politics, or anything else that they know jack and shit about.  Lets be realistic, if you listen (and believe) any non-medically trained person’s bullshit about medicine, you are an idiot. Do I ask the random homeless guy on the street how to fix the breaker box in my house?  No. Do people come into my store and ask me how to replace the water-pump in their Escalade?  No. However some random dipshit actor “speaks out” on a topic and people run and proclaim the word like it was given by Oprah herself.  Yes, it sucks that her child is autistic.  It sucks that /any/ child is autistic.  However it sucks MORE that kids need to suffer a preventable diseases because their mom listens to such propaganda given by a non-medically trained person.  I’m sorry Jenny, but I am no longer fapping to pictures of you out of sheer disappointment.  I hope we can still be friends.

Second on the chopping block, the Lancet.  I had somewhat high regard for the Lancet, having used their studies while I was in school.  How in the hell could they let such a bullshit study be published? A study group of 12?  A high school science project has more people in their study group!  But oh-no, its the whole “think of the children” mentality that got this clusterfuck of a study published vs good logical science.  Good going Lancet, now you can “think of the children” as the unwashed idiots don’t immunize their children and they die a preventable death.  I’m planning on releasing a study showing how Vicodin and Soma use cause laziness and stupidity.  My sample size is 20, I hope you publish my study.

Third, and most favorite: Andrew Wakefield.  Dude, when you publish a study with a sample group of 12 on a medication that MILLIONS and MILLIONS of people have received without incident, didn’t you take a step back and think to yourself “Man, maybe something is a bit wrong”.  No, you didn’t.  You published your bullshit to the Lancet, got your 20 seconds of fame, freaked the fuck out of a bunch of ignorant dipshits because you are were a licensed Doctor and thereby had the inherit trust that goes along with the degree.  If you were selling penis pumps (because thats really all you can do now), I wouldn’t even buy one of those from you because your study group would be 12 men who used it!  You did a huge disservice to the profession of medicine.  Your fellow colleagues hate you, nurses and pharmacists hate you, and to be completely blunt you and the Lancet should be brought up on criminal charges for the damage you have done.  You should go have sex with Jenny McCarthy so maybe the common sense recessive trait could be expressed in your children.

Fourth (and finally) the parents who refuse to immunize because of Autism:  I’m a parent – so this hits close to home. To be completely honest its not the job of the government nor any governmental authority to make you vaccinate your child.  Its your child, you can do whatever you want.  However, that being said, if your child develops any preventable disease because you decided to listen to an ACTOR via the INTERNET vs listening to your DOCTOR (I can see how you can confuse the two, they end in -CTOR) YOU should receive zero state aid while the CHILD gets the treatment he/she deserves on our dime (its not the child’s fault their parents are dipshits, so why should they get shafted out of treatment?).  That’s right, no welfare or any public assistance for YOU because YOU decided to not listen to someone who deals medicine for a living.  You can sleep soundly in bed listening to your child squeal with pertussis knowing full well they won’t get the evil Autism because of your good judgment. Right after that, please stick a road-flare up your vagina, because we don’t need more idiots like you breeding.

I will commend BJM to putting an end to this madness, unfortunately its too little too late.  The damage has been done, the lines have been drawn, and you aren’t going to change the opinion of the uneducated idiots.  After all, you are just a “propaganda machine for big Pharma”.  Oh, and calling Jenny McCarthy an actor is a stretch, even in my book.

But wait! Theres more!  For your enjoyment, straight from YouTube, I present my heros Penn (he should have been a Pharmacist!) and Teller’s episode of Bullshit about this very subject:

Vaccination Liberation?

Thanks, vaccines! You’ve liberated me from many different potentially fatal diseases.

Love the site, but before you get weepy about Jenny just know that SHE cured her son of Autism through a wheat free diet. Sounds like the wheat caused the Autism to me! She says–He pooped it out. She even found time to write a book about it. “Louder Than Words” Maybe this is a good time to start the Angrypharmacist book club…Like Oprah!!!

Comment by Mike on 2011-02-06 10:48:09 -0800 #

The real tragedy here is that the supporters of Jenny will be the ones who suffer the most. Her child has the vaccines, he’s safe. Her supporters without the vaccinated children will know the pain of losing a child and the guilt with knowing their actions caused it. I wonder if someone who doesn’t vaccinate because of that doctor’s study and has a child die of an illness can sue him.

AMEN BROTHER!!!!!!

A few more fun facts about Wakefield (which you might already know): he was in the process of developing his OWN MMR vaccine when he released his “study”, which was not reported as a conflict of interest to the Lancet. Also, he stood to make a lot of money if a link could be proven as he was involved in a court case as an ‘expert’ witness for some nut jobs in London who were suing the NHS because their children had autism. Oh wait, he DID make a lot of money because of that case, how much? 500 000 pounds. Those are pounds, not rupees.

If you haven’t already read it, you might want to pick up Bad Science by Ben Goldacre. There is a chapter on the “MMR Hoax” as he calls it. It is a hilarious / disturbing book on these sorts of events in the medical world today. (Not to mention a wonderful chapter on homeopathy entitled “The Placebo Effect”).

I too loathe all the blowhards like Jenny, Oprah, Nigella, etc who use their fame and lack of knowledge to mis-educate the masses. So thank you for using your rage to fight the good fight!

I think we need to clarify that Ms. McCarty’s son NEVER HAD AUTISM. She diagnosed him herself, cause she’s all better then doctor-y. And since that would be the only case in the history of autism that has been “cured”. Uh yeah. The kid either has a wheat allergy or was just passive-aggressively taking out his embarrassment in having her as a mother the only way he knew how.

Thank you anti-vaccinators, society hasn’t been the same without whopping cough, through your actions, my kid may not be protected even though I responsibly had her vaccinated. And all the children who cannot be vaccinated legitimately due to compromised immune systems or the fact they are too young, they and their parents also salute you. Assholes.

Comment by SkullCandy on 2011-02-06 14:46:35 -0800 #

TAP, I had Pertussis during January. I wanted to FUCKING DIE. Try 3 weeks of no sleeping, and I can’t take cough syrup or codeine. You cough til you vomit, and then cough some more. I would rather have the flu+pneumonia than ever go through that horseshit again.

I found out 3 of the cherubs, in the class I volunteer at, have NO vaccinations and all came down with Pertussis. Two had hospital admits. Their granola crunchy-hippie-dippy-moms “were shock”, how sick their children got. Well, instead of Autism, you damn near buried your kid. Well done, Jenny M, well done.

Scheduling to get boosters, because I’m not having measles/mumps and all the other crap those disease carrying vectors will probably bring in.

Are there no adults with critical thinking skills that are having kydz?

Comment by SkullCandy on 2011-02-06 14:56:18 -0800 #

Forgot to add, the hippy-dippy-moms should also talk to my 75 year old aunt to got Polio as a child. That women suffers like a dog with atrophy on the left side of her body, and the post polio syndrome nonsense she has now. But hey, she dodge the Autism bullet. (hurl)

We are so spoiled it isn’t even funny.

My parents who are only in their 50’s remember having kids in their neighborhoods growing up getting paralyzed because of polio and having alot of other issues as a side effect of measles, including one kid who ended up sterile. I remember reading about the whole MMR/autism crap in a book by Dr. Paul Offit title “Vaccinated: One Man’s Quest to Defeat the World’s Deadliest Diseases” which covered the history of vaccines but also the life of the creator of a number of vaccines we use today including the MMR vaccine, Maurice Hillman. It is sad that people today instead of actually looking at the facts would rather trust some bimbo celeb who self-diagnosed her son with conditions and claims links to all sorts of things with bizzare cures that the research and facts don’t hold up

Both Science-Based Pharmacy ( http://sciencebasedpharmacy.wordpress.com/2011/01/13/after-wakefield-undoing-a-decade-of-damaging-debate/) and Retraction watch ( http://retractionwatch.wordpress.com/2011/01/06/some-quick-thoughts-and-links-on-andrew-wakefield-the-bmj-autism-vaccines-and-fraud/) have done recent reviews of the mess that was the original paper.

The breakdown of the original 12 “cases” from Science-Based Pharmacy is particularly enlightening!

Wakefield has now apparently been struck off in the UK for the fraud in the original article.

Comment by Albinoblackbear on 2011-02-07 08:59:54 -0800 #

Yep! My granddad was a Polio specialist in Canada, and one of my aunts died from whopping cough.

When I meet people who haven’t vaccinated their children in the emergency department I have a REALLY hard time not mentioning a few anecdotes from my own family.

The one thing I do love, is when parents bring their kids to the ED with a fever and I ask about immunization status. When they say, “why does that matter?” I can tell them that if little Timmy had his shots we can rule out diptheria, pertussis, polio, hepatitis, tetanus, and men C, but if not…well…little Timmy could have a common cold or a deadly illness. Good job parents!

Comment by Sibyl on 2011-02-07 19:14:50 -0800 #

The saddest thing is that the people who believe in anti-vaccination nonsense are largely well-educated parents who think that they’re smart enough to make up their own minds — because they’ve been told all their lives how smart they are and simultaneously taught to be suspicious of authority/experts. All that “critical thinking” they did in honors high school literature went to their over-inflated heads. Add Google to the mix and apparently *anyone* can practice medicine without all those tedious years of schooling.

Some of the smartest people I know fell for that nonsense. They’re in a world that is insane when it comes to kids. They feed them organic apple juice and fight hard to get them into prime pre-schools so they can be little geniuses. If their kid’s autistic instead of curing AIDS at the age of four, something is to blame and it’s NOT genetic. That would implicate their superior genes. It has to be environmental. Since the only thing they don’t control about their child’s perfect little environment is the vaccine schedule, it has to be that!

Comment by John Woolman on 2011-02-08 02:18:16 -0800 #

The anti-vaccinators are still there and still active. For example, see: http://reason.com/archives/2011/02/07/the-c-word

Significant numbers of nurses are declining H1N1 influenza immunisation and some medical practitioners, in small uncontrolled surveys have also expressed reluctance. To get myself flamed, they seem to be from a speciality generally populated by those from the lower half of the medical school class (General Practice).

In the UK we do not have a policy of excluding unimmunised children from school. I suspect that introducing such a policy would not be politically acceptable and would probably be contrary to the European Convention on Human Rights, in particular the right to family life clauses.

One of the most cheering things about the BMJ article is that neither Wakefield, nor any of the others (physicians and lawyers) named in the article have shown any signs of sueing for libel and London is the Libel Capital of the Western World…

Comment by Don on 2011-02-08 12:31:25 -0800 #

One problem with AP’s point on the government requiring vaccination in that it is not just the parent’s child at risk. If there is not sufficient herd immunity, babies that are too young to be vaccinated have a higher risk of getting the diseases. In addition, a small percentage of vaccinated people do not develop immunity to the disease, so parents who choose not to vaccinate are putting those people at risk. Yet, if a baby or person dies of the preventable disease it is not the parents who chose not to vaccinate or their children who suffer the consequences. It is the victim of the disease.

Comment by LD50placebo effect on 2011-02-08 15:29:02 -0800 #

The folks that seem most anti-vaccination, don’t seem all that intelligent to me with why they don’t want their children immunized. They may be interested in their kids, but they hang on the Publich Health ‘mandatory’ rhetoric, like their kids are never going to be exposed and the vaccines were made in embryonic tissues. And, sometimes it’s ‘if my kid gets diphtheria, it’s because someone did something wrong to deserve a communicable disease. Sort of like the group opposes blood transfusions. They argue night and day about their ‘right’ to drink unpasteurized milk, and not participate in group health insurance.

I interned (social work) on the acute rehab floor of a big regional hospital. Many of the nurses and staff were in arms because they were being pressured by admin to get a flu shot. In this case, they were afraid of getting Guillain-Barre syndrome. I was in disbelief…I the “social worker” being the voice of scientific reason.

The rehab floor took care of new spinal cord, traumatic brain, or other neuro injuries in a multi-city, multi-state region. Maybe 2-3 census tracts? In the last 10 years they may have had 5 patients with Guillian-barre, may be one triggered by a vaccine.

I am not going to look up the math….but 5 people out of 2.5 million?

How can anyone think that a vaccination given AFTER the child is born could effect his genetics that were established at conception??!?!? WTF are these folks using for brains?!?!?

Comment by Disgusted Pharmacist on 2011-02-09 17:15:05 -0800 #

I think not vaccinating is a great way to reduce the world’s overpopulation problem–survival of the smartest –err–fittest! Yes it is unfortunate that it is the children who will suffer instead of the f—ing stupid parents who did not provide them with the means for the vaccine. Too bad the parents had the opportunity to get vaccinated themselves as children yet they deprive their children, just causing a bigger problem for society as a whole. All because Jenny McCarthy wants to blame her child’s autism on SOMETHING or SOMEONE– total denial that sometimes in life–shit just happens!

Comment by VtPharmacistMike on 2011-02-09 17:17:07 -0800 #

I’ve always thought that the best part about the whole Jenny McCarthy issue was that people were SURPRISED that her kid was a retard. Umm, I’m guessing it might not be the vaccines that made JENNY MCCARTHY’S kid a RETARD. What’s next, some day LeBron James has a child who’s good at playing basketball? That will be EQUALLY shocking!

Comment by pharmacyslave2000 on 2011-02-09 17:48:52 -0800 #

I must disagree with describing Autism as a “genetic disorder”. The incidence is much to high, 1 in 100 if I remember correctly. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t ever remember learning about any genetic disease/disorder with that high of an occurance. Therefor, we can conclude one of two things, it is either caused by something environmental or it is over-diagnosed because it is misunderstood. I lean more towards over-diagnosis but environmental factors can not and should not be ignored. However, I do not in any way condone parents not vaccinating their children. I do feel that parents should request Mercury free vaccines as some literature I have read makes a reasonable case for the dangers of Mercury in vaccines.

Don’t forget about all the dumb*ss chiropractors that don’t believe in vaccines either. What are people thinking, taking medical advice from chiropractors! Just as bad as taking advice from celebrities!

I wonder how many of these parents got the vaccines as well and have no developed autism? Should we ask if them if they would have rather died/have their child be put at a MUCH higher risk of death than the supposed risk of developing autism?

Comment by R. May on 2011-02-10 18:16:01 -0800 #

Unfortunately they will take out people in the process who legitimately cannot be vaccinated. And provide the opportunity however small for mutations in the virus/bacteria. Otherwise I would agree.

Comment by R. May on 2011-02-10 18:26:13 -0800 #

I’m not opposed to people requesting mercury free but the mercury you get from a vaccine (and almost none of them use mercury anymore) is less then you get from a can o’ tuna.

I’m not sure that it’s really over diagnosis per se, I think it’s more of a catchall diagnosis. They aren’t sure exactly what it is, what caused it or what to do about it and the symptoms cover a huge span. I’m inclined to think it’s a bunch of things that cause similar behaviors. And I’m betting a lot of those that are diagnosed now were in generations past written off as retarded in the worst cases and odd in the highest functioning ones. But I don’t know that it will ever be a hard and fast diagnosis with a set treatment along the lines of you have the flu or lupus. I think it would need to be isolated more to do that and it’s just so broad now.

Comment by ji.m on 2011-02-11 07:41:52 -0800 #

Thank god for the death of common sense and all these friggin whack jobs.
How on earth anyone can get away with the idea that a quick google search will yield 100% factual information is beyond me. If you have half a brain though you scrutinize everything even the crap you are 100% sure is right so why are so many people behind these kind of retarded movements?
They do not lie though I am becoming a pharmacist for money! Goddamn right I’m working for a better life–for my daughter and family and we will be fully vaccinated!
Sadly, in a few years we can take a look back and appreciate the increase of instances of all these diseases that could have been prevented with a simple vaccination.

Thanks again angrypharmacist awesome post..going to get a mouse brain sandwich ttyl–bbai~~

I’m the mother of a nine-year-old boy with Aspergers Syndrome. He was diagnosed at 5 years old but I knew long before that there was something different about him (he taught himself to read at 2 but had horrible motor skills). I never once thought it was vaccinations and I fully vaccinated my daughter who was born three years after my son. In my opinion, Jenny (and those like her) is a huge detriment to the Autism community. I’m in favor if doing your research about vaccinations and making your own decision BUT allow me the same courtesy. And just because a celebrity says it’s so doesn’t make it so.

Comment by letsrant on 2011-02-14 11:27:03 -0800 #

i believe the prevalence of autistic spectrum is between 0.1% – 1% of the general pop (depending on whether you want DSM or CDC stats) which is pretty much the same as any other psychiatric or developmental disorders. i also believe it’s a genetic disorder because there are mutations of neurons associated with autistic spectrum. it’s not hereditary by any means if that’s what you refer to. The cause of autism is so controversial because nobody really knows.

as far as vaccination, i don’t think the government can ever dictate people to vaccinate every child. it’s still a recommendation at this point. that’s said, i do think certain vaccination should be mandated. CDC has changed vaccination guidelines for adults to include pertussis because of this nonsense by our beloved mccarthy and wakefield.

Comment by Jessi on 2011-02-14 20:31:15 -0800 #

I am a mother of a child with high functioning autism as well as a pharmacy tech. I think that people try to link autism and vaccinations simply because they are scared. If you can find a reason why “they” have autism then you don’t have worry that your child will get it. In my opinion genetics or heredity can make a person predisposed to autism but there is also some kind of environmental factor or factors that play a role. Obviously I am no nueroscientist of any kind, but this is my opinion. Instead of blaming vaccinations we should be trying to find the gene that is linked to autism so that we can attempt to figure out a way to do something about it.

Comment by opik_bidin on 2011-02-15 01:09:32 -0800 #

My understanding is that her son has Landau-Kleffner syndrome, which has symptoms very similar to autism. Hey, if his symptoms improved on the GFCF diet, that’s great. I’ve also heard of psoriasis and arthritis improving dramatically on that diet, so it doesn’t hurt to try.

As for her divorce, even before the news broke about her publicity stunt (oops, disabled child), there was a lot of Internet chatter about the real reason for her divorce. It was not because of her son, but because she had numerous affairs with both men and women. Maybe Jim Carrey’s into that, IDK. Yeah, I know they broke up.

And if you use the Wayback Machine, you can find her totally crackpot website, which was shut down by the Autism Society, about how autistic children are “indigo children” and their moms are “crystal people” and other such nonsense. She also claimed to have never met an autistic adult. Don’t know what rock she’s lived under, because I can think of several people I grew up with who I now believe were on the spectrum.

My dad had pertussis as a child, and he said it’s not a disease you would want to get rather than take the vaccine. We occasionally have outbreaks in my area, mainly because of the large Amish population who are exempt from immunization laws, and if you think it’s no big deal, try filling 100-plus prescriptions for Z-pack or Bactrim every time a suspected case comes into the ER.

I am saying this gently in a calm voice as I gnash my teeth because the whole topic is so maddening. Remember what TAP said– “millions and millions” of recipients without ill effect. He is right. Think of the hundreds of people you know– is 1 out of every 100 of them autistic? I have lived in 4 states and 2 countries; I have visited another six countries and all but ten or so states. I, like you, have met literally thousands of people. In all this, I have encountered maybe ten truly autistic people (including the amazing Kim Peek, whose passing saddened me greatly). On the other hand, I have seen hundreds of rotten kids who are manipulative, obnoxious, conniving little shits and whose parents are clueless as to how to raise them– I guess it depends on how you define autism. And if you think my personal sample size is biased, well, at least it’s more than 12.

How many sucked on DuPont plasticizer soaked rubber nipples, or drank synthetic milk ever? 100%!
How many have a kitty in the house and breathe in the mind controlling Toxoplasma from the poo?

And you pill counters are going to lecture me on vaccinations? I don’t think so. Why don’t you sorry asses fill a $4.00 prescription or give me a $25.00 gift card when I transfer my HCTZ prescription that’s worth a lousy 12 cents. You morons lose money on every Rx you fill due to your own stupidity. I hear your knowledge is so valuble that some of you Einsteins are even giving antibiotics away for free. You pharmacy whores – I mean sluts, because whores get paid – should stick to counting your pills by two’s. I was 12 years old in 1976 when the swine flu vaccination campaign/Guillain-Barre syndrome thing happened. Yes, I was a kid but I was interested in that story. It came on the heels of the discovery of Legionnaire’s Disease, which turned out not to be a new disease after all, but that was one terrifying story. Maybe this was where they were coming from.

Dear Troll –

You seem to be confusing Pharmacist with CORPORATION. Corporations decide to give you a gift card, free antibiotics, and generally set pricing not the pharmacists. So calling pharmacists stupid for these gimmicks is pretty stupid. Furthermore, if the store is offering these incentives it is because although they may lose some money on the prescription, enough people spend money in the store itself to result in an overall positive effect on the balance sheet. Your nonsensical and disjointed little rant was funny – I like starting my day with funny. It said more about your own intelligence then anyone else. I mean, really, whores vs sluts….stay classy my friend, stay classy.

I wouldn’t allow 90% you you morons to fill a glass of water for me, let alone a prescription, and you knuckleheads want to lecture me on vaccinations? Give me a break! Why don’t you dipshits stick to filling your $4.00 prescriptions and handing out company gift cards for $25.00 when you make me wait too long or I transfer my HCTZ prescription worth 12 cents. You white-coated idiots with a CVS or Rite Aid shoulder patch attached perform such an important task you pay me to gey my prescription filled or lose money filling my prescription. What other company or organization that has something positive to offer does this? Rather than counting pills by two’s you should get a goodnights sleep, have a cup of Starbucks in the morning and really step it up and try counting your pills 5 at a time. I will attempt to help you with this one. Let us try: 5,10,15,20….

I read Jenny’s first book on pregnancy. Total krap, but there inside is the KEY to what messed her kid up…(if anything is wrong with him at all). She had a terrible labor in which she pushed for like I don’t know 3 hours, followed by EMERGENCY C-SECTION. When precious little Evan was finally dislodged from his mother I think he had the cord wrapped around his neck. She had strangled him with all that pushing, and I believe the emergency c-section was because his stats had dropped into the danger zone. Anyway she recalls that he was grey…or blue and DID NOT BREATH forever. I think he needed oxygen and had to be carted off to the NICU. Somehow all the antivaxers FAILED to recognize this seemingly VITAL piece of info…A whole damn chapter was written on it! In MY small undereducated mind I would think the kid may have suffered a little brain damage from NO OXYGEN at birth instead of some miraculously cured self-diagnosed autism? She is shameless for not even mentioning it in her autism book. There is a special place for people like her. That being said I happen to think she is a career driven, helicopter mom of ONE normal kid with too much time and money (but not enough for her lifestyle). I would almost say she should have more (If I could stand the thought of her breeding more) so she realizes all kids are stupid, slow, crumb snatching, block sucking, paste eating poops. Oh and her child’s failure to connect with her socially? Well he was probably RAISED by the NANNY! He probably did not know who the heck she was as she had books to promote, and jenny craig commercials to shoot. It was only after she thought she could make a buck off him that she took interest in him…and viola! He is cured! I hate her.

I know you’re not a pharmacist. You couldn’t be a pimple on a pharmacist’s ass! But point is pharmacists work for these CORPORATIONS that think so little of them, so what am I to think of them? Are you telling me that these CORPORATIONS are willing to give away all this “knowledge” everyone on this website claims to have on the hope I am going to buy a box of Good and Plenty while I am in your store to get my prescription filled? Well I guess that speaks volumes about the dollar value the CORPORATION puts on the “knowledge” you guys and gals claim to have. If I was an was an auto mechanic and the company I worked for said I would fix your transmission for free on the hope that the customer would buy coffee and donuts while I am under the car sweating my ass off fixing the damn thing, I would feel like the bottom turd on the shit pile. I am glad you think my rant was funny, but what I wrote is not funny, it’s sad. And while I have no doubt about my intelligence, I am having serious concerns about yours right now. Finally, I do not appreciate you stating “my friend” in your response to my rant. I am not your friend.

well…it would be much easier to accept if the CDC wasn’t so well known for it’s ability to “skew” the truth a little, if they feel it’s in the best interest of the country. If you didn’t know, they sat on the AIDS virus for 10 years, while it spread like wildfire, because they didn’t want to “panic the sheep” (referring to the general public)

At first, the CDC came out and vehemently denied vaccinations being linked to autism, then switched course, and started investigating, then himmed and hawed, then came back out with the denials. IF there were a link, one in 100 parents in this country would be demanding compensation…they will never publically admit anything….although they were quick to get rid of all the mercury preservatives. Strange that they would deny the mercury link, yet pull it and ship all of it out to 3rd world contries.

I don’t know if the culprit is the MMR, or the barage of vaccinations that are thrust upon our children in such a short time, and at a crutial period of developement, but i do think it’s worth looking into. The MMR can be separated and given over a number of weeks, but that option is more expensive and not offered in most office visits.

There is a reason that this conditon has been hurdled into the stats that it is in now…what that reason is? Should be studied instead of being a bone of contention between parents….logically it is enviornmental.

For now? If your child DOESN’T have Autism, back off…you don’t know, nor can you imagine the devistation of getting that diagnosis. and…for those of you thinking the word “retard” is funny, or describes any individual human being or group of human beings…..GROW UP!! It’s extremely distateful
and damaging to our children, and those that love them.

My child was vaccinated…was FORCED to be vaccinated, and i wish now i had broken up the MMR. We’ll never know…we do know that in societies that don’t vaccinate…like the Amish…there is virtually no autism. Facts like that should be fueling the gov’ts priority of investigation, instead of it’s priority of covering it’s ass first.

Take your glass of water, and HCTZ and take your shit to the “county” hospital and wait all day for it. Maybe they can give you a gift card to buy something at the flea market! It will probably look GREAT in your TRAILER!

And and when you DO get an RX for Viagra.. (because I know YOU WILL.. Limp Dicks USUALLY DO!) Don’t bring it to us… because we’ll tell you take a hike. I think you UNDERESTIMATE pharmacists… esp “The Angry Pharmacist.” One day, he will have you by the balls… And I want to see it!

She “cured” her son’s Autism on a wheat-free diet? Are you fucking kidding me?? Obviously he didn’t have Autism. Apparently Jenny missed Genetics 101 in Playmate school because that’s not how shit works. Maybe Charlie Sheen should stop eating wheat as well. Medical research has debunked the Autism/vaccination debate a million times over and these stubborn fucks still don’t get it. I think that if god forbid a child developes a potentially fatal disease (that could’ve been prevented!) because a parent chose not to vaccinate then they should be charged with child endangerment…

while it’s true that governments often “skew” the truth to fit their agenda, it’s also true that the people often need not to be told uncertain information. public panic not something you want to experience over things that are not facts. chaos, violence and deaths will certainly follow. is that the price you’re willing to pay for some unsure information?

as for the CDC going back and forth about MMR and autism, that’s the nature of knowledge. one day you think you know the truth about something, the next day your truth is obsolete. 10 years from now, it may as well be that MMR does cause autism. until we have any proof of it, i don’t think speculation will do anyone any good.

i often vacillate about the use of the word “retard.” my nephew is autistic and BTW i don’t think i would describe his family as “devastated.” he is a delightful, intelligent but socially awkward child. of course he’s called names by other kids. since he is not retarded per DSM IV, we told him to feel free to sock any of those kids. however, i know a lot of other kids who have MR. now, it is what it is, mental retardation. it’s a clinical description. do i call them “retard?” no, but i do call them “mentally retarded.” is it the same? probably not. i guess it depends on how you use it. when the word is used out of meaness, there should be hell to pay.

i’m surprised your child was “forced” to be vaccinated. as far as i know, it is not mandatory. you certainly have the right to refuse it if it suits your need. i don’t recommend it since it not only affects your child but other children in contact with him/her.

interesting take on the Amish. while they don’t vaccinate, they are not exposed to harsh chemicals, pollution, or artificial food products either. any of those can be accounted for the fact that they have no autism, which i’m not sure about. mental illnesses are often under-reported in other subcultures.

Our vaccines contain many heavy metals, including mercury, that have been proven to cause brain damage. They are also grown on eggs, so anyone with an egg susceptibility may experience forms of brain injuries, as well as immunodeficiencies. As a teacher, there are more autistic cases every year, more in fact, than any other country. We vaccinate more children than the rest of the world, and by comparison with educated, socioeconomically equal countries refusing to vaccinate based on Europe’s medical studies, we are falling behind. I am a 50yr old unvaccinated teacher with adult children. Childhood diseases take and injure less patients than those that receive vaccines.

I don’t know where you grew up, or when you grew up, but when I was growing up in the 80’s and 90’s, kids were vaccinated, end of story. I didn’t know of a single soul who *wasn’t* vaccinated during that time. Why didn’t you hear about autism, and see skyrocketing rates of autism then? I’m sure there were people here and there who didn’t choose to do so, but we sure didn’t hear about them. How can you even possibly begin to formulate the hypothesis that increased vaccination rates = increased “injury” rates? I don’t even know what you mean by indirectly saying vaccines “injure” children; it’s not clear from your post.

Like TAP and many others have pointed out: what are other things in autistic children’s lives that they all have in common with each other? I’m sure they’ve all eaten Cheerios for breakfast at one point or another; CHEERIOS CAUSE AUTISM!1! Same could be said for oatmeal, Coookie Crisp, bagels, fluorinated water, etc. etc. etc.

I think the fact that there is the threat of a massive measles outbreak in MA is proof enough that preventable diseases both take and injure FAR more children than vaccines “injure”. Also, please define how vaccines “injure” children, and I’ll stop listening as soon as you reference Jenny McCarthy, Andrew Wakefield, or the Lancet.

Edward Jenner would kick us all right in the cunt if only he knew.

And another thing, thiomerosal (mercury preservative) was removed from all childhood vaccines several years ago just as a precaution and the autism rate has continued to climb. So you’re WRONG again. And you might really consider getting vaccinated. With all the parents refusing vaccination now your likely to come into direct contact with several great vectors for whooping cough, diptheria, etc. Please tell me you are not a teacher in Western Washington, amazing the people they will let teach our kids. Darlings, have you considered for a second that the onset of the symptoms could be caused by COMBINATION of environmental factors, with the vaccination being the last drop for some poor kids with certain genetic predisposition?
I’ve witnessed my good friend’s son exhibiting first Asperger’s symptoms the same day he had his 36-month vaccinations. That night the usually friendly and generally healthy boy first started talking in a robot-like voice, then stopped communicating completely. He’s now 11, not any better, and the family, together with the state of NY, pay over $100K a year for his school.
Correlation is not causation and this particular incident doesn’t mean anything? Yes, my dearest, same as being an RPh doesn’t indicate a higher than average level of intelligence. The three who have worked for me in the last 2 years are clear proof of that. Our tech is brighter than three of them combined.
Also, if the CDC didn’t recommend a staggering number of BS vaccinations (like the N1H1, which does squat–read the scientific data), then, perhaps, the critically-inclined members of the population wouldn’t question ALL of them. May be, just may be, our less-than-spectacular environment, food made mostly of chemicals AND 3 vaccines given at the same time IS a little too much for some fragile bodies. Oh, wait, this particular group probably doesn’t believe in the climate change, either…
Lastly, if you think that MD’s orders should be followed because “they deal health for living”, then talk to the MD who has send us a client with liver cirrhosis to fill her Percocet 10/325…or one who is OK prescribing Oxycodone to a pregnant woman. The medical world is just as full of ignorant quacks as the rest of the population.
So stop being so full of yourselves and consider that PERHAPS you really don’t know everything. I certainly don’t. But I don’t want to tell a mother with an autistic child that he/she is suffering (and paying $100K/year) for the greater good. And until the scientific community figures out the root causes of the disorder or learns to test for genetic predisposition towards adverse reactions for vaccines, please hold your judgment to yourself.

One of the strongest links to autism and other sub-classes of the disorder is the drastic change in the vaccine programs of the United States and many other countries, which included a dramatic increase in the number of vaccines being given at a very early age.

In the early 1980s, the incidence of autism was 1 in 10,000 births. By 2005, the incidence had leaped to 1 in 250 births and today it is 1 in 150 births and still climbing.

Comment by RPH123 on 2011-06-16 17:50:03 -0700 #

Yes, Mercury was removed from a lot of the vaccines but the real problem involves giving too many shots these days as compared to years ago. This is why the Autism rates continue to climb. The strongest link to autism lies in repeated injections. All the other excipients there are in these shots like formaldehyde become worrisome when you keep injecting and injecting over and over again into young infants. The real problem is that pharmacy and medical schools don’t show both sides of the coin. There is a constant brainwashing especially in medical schools.

Comment by RPH123 on 2011-06-16 17:55:18 -0700 #

Uh, perhaps you haven’t heard that Jenny McCarthy’s son most likely NEVER had autism. ALL you have to do is do a background investigation into her claims and see what really happened. He was never autistic. He had seizures. He regressed. He was given seizure medicine. He got better. End of story. Not autism. More like Landau Kleffner Syndrome. HELLLLOOOOOOO. It’s TIME for Jenny McCarthy to admit to her fans and the public that her son NEVER had autism. That’s not to say we still won’t root and support her and her son, it’s just that she’s waited way too long to admit this and the longer she waits the more angry people in the autism community who have REAL truly autistic kids are going to get.

I read your post on Vaccines and Autism. I agree with you regarding the hype it has gotten from people like Jenny mccarthy, however, I have a question for you. Do you have any kids with the condition called ASD??? If not, then all your comments really are just that your opinion. However, since I do have a child that has ASD and the fact of the matter is the only thing he was given during the first three to five years of life was any injection of Kenalog, which you might remember is a very strong Steroid that is considered an immunosuppressant. Since the brain and nero systems are developing at a quick rate and any suppression of thesse two vital systems can cause Developmental delays, it clearly states it in the package insert. Before you post you may want to consider these things since Vaccines are Drugs. My son was normally developing and when he was given that kenalog injection he went from being very healthy to being chronically sick. They had to perform surgery to the upper arm where the shot was given to remove the drug as it was still releasing into the body for 6+ months, this was according to the pathology report we obtained from the lab that was sent the sample. It’s a daily struggle to deal with our son, So I hope you can understand I’m not blasting you, but informing you that their are many such as myself that have been affected by Big Pharma. I understand the importance to not scare people as well, but educated them so that can be informed instead of being told they must vaccinate. I do really appreciate your honesty. Also as far as the lancet is concerned in UK, they can be bought off with $$$$$$$$$$$$$$, No one is innocent in that regard. Many of the medication that exist do not have proper data to show that they are safe what so ever, Baycol, Bextra, redux, Rezulin, the list is long and deep. They distort the data to get it approved and use the general public as a big clinical trial. Sorry for the long winded nature of this post, but you really set a fire under me.

Vesna,

I agree with you all all levels, most people are so quick to jump and say that vaccination didn’t cause the child to be autistic, but I would have to say it is one of the reasons for that child becoming autistic. I have a 7 year old that was diagnosed ASD when he was 40 months old. He was given an adult dose of kenalog and hours later had the classic signs of ASD. We called the Doctor 5+ times over the course of 2 weeks, then we got a referral to a plastic surgeon that performed the necessary surgery to remove the fragments of drug. When the pathology report come back it showed that it ( the drug) was still actively releasing into my sons body. Anyway to make a long story short, we know that it was due to the drug that our son has ASD. I have been working for over 18+ years in pharmacy and the lies and deceit have gotten more and more extreme. The FDA is not watching out for us, they are just money hungry and will give anybody a license as long as their pocket book is big enough.

Single doses are Thiomersal free, but they cost 3 times as much and most insurance companies will not pay for it. Your claims that Thiomersal have been removed is completely false. You are just as ignorant as anyone else by making such a false statement, and if you actually believe that to be true look on the vials in the frig. 🙁

Not all people are capable of receiving a vaccination due to their health issues, and not all of those vaccinated will receive proper immunity.

‘Herd immunity’ is received by having a sufficient portion of the population immunized- and lost by having the non immune portion grow. If one person out of a hundred isn’t immune, they are generally safe, as disease needs hosts to be transmitted, and they are surrounded by immune people. When people stop vaccinating, and 1 in 10, or 1 in 5 people aren’t immune, you are coming into contact with dozens, maybe hundreds, of potential carriers every day. That’s how epidemics get started.

I want to say thank you for your rant about RTS Rx’s. I am a Certified/Registered Technician of 10 years with 21 years experience. I agreed with most of your rants as they are amoung the reasons that made me decide the salary offered in exchange for the shit pharmacists and tech deal with on a daily basis was not worth the strain on MY health and wellbeing. Good for you for finding an outlet for those frustrations.
Now, I have a 7 year old autistic son. Let me start by saying most of us cannot afford the treatments and such that celebrities can afford to heal the children. A “simple” change in diet itself is costly. My angle is this: Jenny did heal her son Good for her. I had a curiosity about the vaccine thing. My son was normal and then “became autistic” or moreso after taking all his medical records, visits, shot ect. and found the coincidence of his illness to his shots to be more than coincidence. I think we are being to judgemental instead of being open minded and research information, I’ve always been willing to do so. I have found info where “Penn and Teller” take contributions from questionable sources including Mudoch. Murdoch is acused of more than just phone hacking. They have recieved contributions from Monsanto and others in keeping certain info out of the press and to manipulate news reports to show this topic and others in a negative light. Please research these things you may be as surprised as I was to learn of some of these practices. Follow the money trail. All we want is the truth. And It bothers me for people to be so angry over the LIES that are fed to us by paid off people including Penn and Teller (I really liked them too). There are too many bought of “spokespeople” and all of it is done in the name of CONTROL. Thanks for listening to me. I don’t believe in Negative expressions of opinion. I want to lovingly spread the word about the situations of blatant MANUPULATIONS OF TRUTHS. The other thing is no, not every one is affected by vaccines, but I do believe like in medications there are toxic overloads/interactions in sensitive children and people where this is possible. We eat GMO foods (that most of america isn’t even aware of) then you add drugs and vaccines which are chemicals and such. How can you say there arn’t any possible side effects or interactions between the afore mentioned. What about certain sugarless cookies that unless you read the packaging says it could cause a laxative effect?!? What’s wrong with that picture?!?

I couldn’t agree with you more!!! You are so right about being bout off. American is really not aware of just how “bought off” and crooked the WHOLE system is. That also sets a seriously hot flame under my behind as well. I’m sure you probsbly know but anyhow follow up these names…Mudock (he took contrbutions to “turn” Dr Wakefields research into “lies”) I found the “proof” of that. Then Monsanto and the “safety” of GMO foods. The FDA took the word of monsanto that GMO’s are “safe”. The FDA NEVER tested themselves. Everybody is paying off somebody to “keep secrets” and to put out “manupulated” truths and lies for the public to believe. Thanks for posting your opinion. Imakes me feel not so alone “in this crusade”. God bless you Namaste!

Thanks so much for your post!!! I stand in ovation! People talk without EXPERIENCE. Some of us don’t imagine there is this link. Not every parent of an autistic child I speak to agree with cause. I agree with you here so completly “May be, just may be, our less-than-spectacular environment, food made mostly of chemicals AND 3 vaccines given at the same time IS a little too much for some fragile bodies”. I KNOW my son’s (and several other children) where fine then were not. I’ve compared all my son’s vaccines, pharmacy visits, doctor visits. It surprised me to find that from one day of vaccines to the next day he was sick or had something…sinus infections, ear infections, fever, then words became grunts and head nods and full blown temper tantrums out of nowhere. Ear flapping, all of a sudden staring out to space and not responding. This amongst others things no need to mention anything else I know you get the point. Thanks again for your post, I just had to reply.

you know what’s silly? i actually thought your entry was now irrelevant. as in EVERYONE now knows that lancet’s study was a load of crap. kids need to get vaccinated and you’re an uneducated noob if you don’t blahblahblah no need to state the obvious.
but yesterday (9/14/11) i watched Michelle Bauchman spew shit about hpv vaccines being a direct causation of mental retardation… and you know what her evidence was? from some lady in the audience that went up to her after the debate. mind you the audience for that debate cheered at the idea of letting someone die if (s)/he takes a risk of not insuring him/herself.

then i wept for humanity

I have to disagree with your implication that autism is entirely genetic.
I am a pharmacist with an autistic brother. I never once fell for the nonsense that vaccines cause autism, and thankfully, neither did my parents (both of whom have master degrees in public health).
There have been genetic syndromes with autism as a feature (such as fragile X syndrome), but for all the genetic markers that have been found, there are still hundreds of thousands of autistics (and their parents) who do not carry any of those markers and have no known family history of the disorder. The causes of autism for those people is still unknown. My mother has enrolled my brother’s DNA in nearly every ongoing study there is…especially the ones that have determined or are trying to determine possible genetic causes, and to date our family has had none of the markers.
I think it may be discovered some day that there are several things that contribute to a diagnosis of autism…and it is very likely there are some environmental causes, but obviously vaccines is not one of them!

The incidence is about 1 in 110. Due to my brother being autistic, I have met many many people diagnosed with autism and I do not think it is over-/mis-diagnosed.
Its causes most likely are environmental and/or multi-factorial, but one cannot say that autism IS or IS NOT a genetic disorder. There are some genetic disorders that are known to feature autism, so in some cases there is a genetic link, however many autistics have no known genetic disorder.
Also…most vaccines no longer contain “mercury” (actually a derivative: thimerosal), and they were made this way beginning in 2001. Yet the incidence of autism has not declined…which you would expect it to IF that was the cause!

Landau Kleffner syndrome can be difficult to diagnose and may be misdiagnosed as autism, It’s sad that Jenny McCarthy still speaks for children with autism when she is clearly a mother of a Landau Kleffner Syndrome child. It’s easy to cure autism when your child never had autism, yet McCarthy is still playing the role of a mother of an autistic child who allegedly recovered. Such a false face of autism. Her son was diagnosed and within a few years she claims she had “saved him” and recued hom from autism. That’s not real autism folks.

Holy crap, that’s the first I’ve heard if this!

You know what is easy to diagnose, extremititis-dumbassednes. An extraordinarily dibilitating disease that most Hollywood types are stricken with. Me McCarthy has a thing case of this ailment.
